WISDOM FROM MAXINE!

Always read stuff that will make you look good, just in case you die in the middle of it! Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once! Never buy a car you cant push! A husband is someone who, after he takes out the trash, you would think he cleaned the house.

There was not a drawing tonight, as there was a full agenda, and the meeting ran over.

EXEMPTION FROM ADVALOREM TAX

(The following was sent out as a email from Abe Stice)

Guys, dont know what your % of service con-nected disabilities are, but Texas State Represen-tative Jimmie Don Aycock has introduced House Bill 62, which will exempt 100% Disabled Veter-ans from paying the AdValorem Taxes on their homestead. You can check out the progress of this bill as it moves through the legislature by go-ing to: (http://www.legis.state.tx.us/billlookup/billnumber.aspx) and typing in HB 62. It it passes through the Senate, it wont go into effect until tax year 2010, but when it does, it will most likely reduce your mortgage payments by a cou-ple hundred dollars per month. The State of Oklahoma passed similar legislation several years ago and since thin I have bom-barded our State Representatives with documen-tation of the Oklahoma Bill with the closing state-ment of If Oklahoma can provide this benefit to its Disabled Veterans, why cant the State of Texas?

Wisdom From Maxine: Ham and eggs! A days work for the chicken, a lifetime commitment for the pig!

Wisdom from Maxine: My husband and I devoiced over religious differences. He thought he was GOD and I didnt

Profound Statements:

In my many years, I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm and three or more is a congress. John Adams

If you dont read the newspaper you are uniformed, if you do read the newspaper you are misinformed. Mark Twain

I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle. Winston Churchill

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN: http & https

I know you all might know this, but I didnt and was glad to find it out. FIRST, MANY PEOPLE ARE UNAWARE OF The main difference between http:// and https:// is, its all about keeping you secure

HTTP stands for HyperText Transport Protocol, which is just a fancy way of saying its a protocol (a lan-guage, in a manner of speaking) for information to be passed back and forth between web servers and clients. The important thing is the letter S which makes the difference between HTTP and HTTPS.

The S (big surprise) stands for Secure. If you visit a website or webpage, and look at the address in the web browser, it will likely begin with the following: http://.

This means that the website is talking to your browser using the regular unsecured language. In other words, it is possible for someone to eavesdrop on your computers conversation with the website. If you fill out a form on the website, someone might see the information you send to that site.

This is why you never ever enter your credit card number in an http website!

But if the web address begins with https://, that basically means your computer is talking to the website in a secure code that no one can eavesdrop on. You understand why this is so important, right?

If is a website ever asks you to enter your credit card information, you should automatically look to see if the web address begins with https://. If it doesnt, theres no way youre going to enter sensitive information like a credit card number.

RETARDED GRANDPARENTS - (This was actually reported by a teacher) After Christmas, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holiday away from school. One child wrote the following:

We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa. They used to live in a big brick house, but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida. Now they live in a tin box and have rocks painted green to look like grass. They ride around on their bicycles and wear name tags because they wont know who they are anymore.

They go to a building called a wrecked center, but they must have got it fixed because it is all okay now, they do exercises there, but they dont do them very well. There is a swimming pool too, but they all jump up and down in it with hats on.

At their gate, there is a doll house with a little old man sitting in it. He watches all day so nobody can escape. Sometimes they sneak out, and go cruising in their golf carts. Nobody there cooks, they just eat out. And, they eat the same thing every nightearly birds.

Some of the people cant get out past the man in the doll house. The ones who do get out, bring food back to the wrecked center for pot luck.

My Grandma says that Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and says I should work hard so I can be retarded someday too. When I earn my retardment, I want to be the man in the doll house. Then I will let people out, so they can visit their grandchildren.

VIDEO TAPING OF KOREA STORIES

These talks are videotaped. The tapes will go to the Korean War Museum, to become part of their archives. Since time at our meetings is limited, we will have to follow some simple rules: Members will have 10 minutes max. to speak. The time limit will be controlled. To be able to tell your story in that time frame, you should plan your talk in advance. List the things you want to cover, and try it out at home first and watch the time it takes. If it is way over the time, trim out some things to make it fit. Remember youre being taped and the Museum wont know who you are.. . . . . . . Start with your name, rank, branch of service, time you were there and what your specialty was. Then tell your story Be sure and attend and hear the latest memory.

MEETING TIME CHANGED

Beginning in January, the meeting times will change. The board members voted to change the meetings. The board meeting will again be on the first Thursday of the month, at 5 pm. The general meet-ing will be on the 3rd Thursday at 6 pm, instead of 7 pm. Come early and visit with friends, and meet new ones.

DONT FORGET !!!

KEEPING IN TOUCH SICK BAY

Ruth Johnson has been hospitalized since November 2008. She was transferred to TIRR and while there she developed pneumonia for the third time since this all started. She was then transferred to another medical hospi-tal. Ruth, you are a true fighter. We hope and pray that you will be home with your family soon. Were looking forward to seeing you. Ruby Ehrlund has resumed her chemo treatment. This tends to make her very tired. We hope everything goes okay. Hopefully it will all be over with very soon.

CONSUL GENERAL RETURNS TO KOREA

Our wonderful Consul General of the Republic of Korea and Mrs. Jung-Keun Kim, have returned to Seoul, Korea. Consul General Kim has been in Houston several years and the Lone Star Chapter became very fond of the both of them. Several breakfasts and dinners have been hosted in their lovely home, with the Lone Star Chap-ter members included. Some of these dinners were prepared by Mrs. Kim, with some assistance from her staff. The last dinner they hosted was held near the end of Febru-ary, with just a few members invited. They will be missed, hope-fully retirement will agree with them.

KOREAN WORDS & PHRASES

Below are a few words that some of you might find useful if you plan to make the return trip to Korea. Study them and understand them, so when in Korea, or just talking to our Korean friends, you will un-derstand a tiny bit of the language.
