PRESENTATION: Our guest speaker Monique Hammond was introduced by her husband Ross. Monique is a registered pharmacist who lost her hearing in her left ear- from a loud bang-at a church fundraiser 12 years ago. After losing her hearing, she did 5 years of research and wrote a book called: What Did You Say? An Unexpected Journey Into the World of Hearing Loss. Monique’s mission is to promote better hearing, longer for people of all ages. Hearing loss is a silent, invisible injury/ disability. Hearing loss becomes a communication issue. 1 in 5 people, age 12 and older have hearing loss. Hearing is very important for learning. There are many causes of hearing loss. Genetics, infections, strokes. Aging and noise induced hearing loss are the biggest ones. TURN DOWN YOUR VOLUME. Use ear plugs. Monique gave a very dynamic presentation. She urges us to remember that noise induced hearing loss is PERMANENT. THERE IS NO “GETTING USED” TO LOUD SOUNDS. Hearing loss is permanent and preventable. Hearing loss impacts our lives socially, emotionally, professionally and financially. Monique encourages us to spread the word about- Hearing is a precious sense. Start with yourself and your family. Keep people’s hearing better and longer! After a question and answer period, Carol wrapped up by thanking Monique for her informative presentation. Monique’s book is available for $10.00 with the proceeds given back to Lakehead Rotary.

Communications: The Communications Committee is having a few growing pains. Committee Chair Audrey Halvorsen noted that we are communicating as much as possible through the website. The Club Chronicle is posted on the public website. Each member can reach the member area by clicking on the button on the top right corner and putting in their user name and password. If anyone needs a password reset, please let Audrey know. The membership requested refresher training on the use of the website and Facebook. Shrimp Fest: Shrimp Fest will be held on May 24, 2019 at the Valhalla Inn. Tickets are $60 and can be purchased from Clint. New flyers and tickets were printed to reflect the change in venue and menu. We already have 5 items donated for the silent auction. We are looking forward to seeing the Alan/LoriAnn team in action.

FELLOWSHIP FINES: Finemaster Volker keeping along the theme of the presentation this morning asked all males if they had ever been accused of “selective hearing”? which netted him a coin from all! Ladies were not excluded, Ever been accused of talking too much or over someone? More coins collected! Happiness: Clint, for Shrimp Fest flyers and tickets finalized! Jennifer for her trip to Punta Cana! Carol for her Girl Guide cookie sales in Nipigon! And Audrey for the temperature being above zero this morning! Sadness: No sadness today! 50/50 Draw: Congratulations! Our winner of the 50/50 this morning was Volker who didn’t hear that he had won! He graciously donated the winnings back to Polio Plus. Thank you Volker. CLUB SOCIAL: Social Announcements: Lakehead Rotary Curling Mini Bonspiel for fun and friendship on Saturday April 6/19 7pm at the Fort William Curling Club.
