GOOD LIKE BREAD Last year the Church celebrated the Jubilee Year of Mercy. This year we celebrate the Year of St. Brother Albert Chmielowski – an apostle of the Divine Mercy, which was announced by the Polish Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Polish Parliament. The celebration began on December 25th 2016 on St. Albert’s 100th death anniversary that took place in a shelter for the poor in Cracow, Poland. In regard to this event our Pastor – Fr. Robert invited us to decorate an image of St. Albert in our church to remind us this year about this servant of the poor and the founder of our congregation, and also to display his relics. In this way, we wish to remind us his extensive biography. St. Albert was fighting for freedom of Poland during “January Uprising” (“Powstanie Styczniowe”) in the 19h century. He was also a famous painter who abandoned a comfortable life and carrier in order to serve God living in the poorest of the poor, the unemployed, the lost ones, deprived of the means of livelihood. Not only did he bring them food, but he also shared with them their poor life conditions by helping them to regain their dignity as human beings and children of God. In this day and age, people are also thirsty for kindness and love. Unfortunately, nowadays the world is filled with egoism, indifference, and the hardness of heart. Brother Albert teaches us to be sensitive to the needs of those around us. For us Albertine Sisters - weak followers of his work, this year will be the time of deep gratitude to God for the life and holiness of our founder. Also, it will be the time to reflect on how I fulfill the testament of Bother Albert, whether I am good like bread, whether I share a “piece” of bread with others by offering my time, help, smile…

Dear Parishioners, we would also like to encourage you to pray through the intercession of St. Albert and giving yourself to those whom God places on your path every day of your life.

About Fr. Jim. Fr. Jim Mcllhone was born and raised on the South-side of Chicago. He attended St. Mary of the Lake Seminary and gradu-ated with a Masters of Divinity and Bacculaureate in Sacred Theology in 1974. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 8, 1974. He has taught several courses at Mundelein Seminary in Old Testament, New Testament, Biblical Languages and Intertestamen-tal Literature, and Patristics. He is the author of The Word Made Clear. During his time at Mundelein he has contributed to various Catholic periodicals. Since 2010, Fr Jim has been the Director of Biblical Formation for the Archdiocese of Chicago. In this position, he has devel-oped a website, wvvw.wordmadeclear.org which has an electronic commentary on the Gospel of Mark and Luke, as well as commentary on the biblical Roots of the Mass. In addition to the above, he serves also as a Faculty Member and Board Member of the Chicago Catholic Scripture School and a faculty member of the Institute of Diaconal Formation of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

LENTEN DECORATION IN OUR CHURCH This year the Lenten decoration at the altar expresses the three works that each one of us in to be involved in: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. Prayer is to help us to deepen our relationship with God. Fasting is a means to detach us from the things of this world. Almsgiving opens us for the needs of the poor and fills our hearts with love. This year almsgiving in our parish is focused on the

poor children of Siberia who are ministered by

Albertine Sisters.

RESTAURANT NIGHT WITH ST. WILLIAM SCHOOL St. William School will be hosting “Restaurant Night” at Amato’s Pizza, 1737 N. Harlem on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 f rom 11:00 am till 11:00 pm. Flyers will be available at School, Rec-tory and Church entrances. Take the flyer, mention or present when ordering and Amato’s will donate 15% back to the school. Blue & White Raffle Update

Thank you for your support of the Blue & White Raffle! We raised over $7700 for our tuckpointing – what a great start! The Cubs tickets went to our own 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Zaccaria; the Blackhawks tickets went to Janet (no last name on ticket); and the HIP $500 gift card went to the Aguada family. Każdy człowiek kiedyś umrze. I nie to jest straszne. Jest coś poważniejszego-śmierć wieczna: "nie!" wyrażone Bogu w grzechu ciężkim, utrwalonym w chwili śmierci. Co więc mamy robić, by do tego nie doszło? Nawracaj się, spowiadaj, walcz o miłość, zmagaj się, zwyciężaj zło dobrem, a przetrwasz. Bo cóż ci się bardziej "opłaca": trochę krzyża wierności teraz, czy czarna rozpacz przez wieczność

Post, jałmużna i modlitwa

Postawa pokory (wyrażona w posypaniu głowy popiołem) wprowadza człowieka w atmosferę pustyni, czyli koniecznego odosobnienia, gdzie odbywa się powolny proces spotkania z Bogiem. Atmosferę tę stwarzają: post, jałmużna i modlitwa, trzy podstawowe biblijne działania człowieka jako swoiste znaki jego nawrócenia i pokory. Wszystkie te elementy były wcześniej wykorzystywane przez proroków Izraela i świętych Kościoła, już nie mówiąc o samym Jezusie, który na pustyni pościł i modlił się, by w swoim czasie oddać swoje życie na krzyżu. Działania te w efekcie są wyrazem naszej miłości, wewnętrznej zadumy i powagi nad tajemnicami zbawienia, które wprowadzają w samo centrum środowiska Bożego. One w sumie stanowią treść przebywania na pustynnym odosobnieniu, by uczyć nas słuchania woli Bożej i wrażliwości na prawdziwe potrzeby drugiego człowieka.

Kolor fioletowy Wielkopostną atmosferę przebywania człowieka na pustyni oddaje kolor krwi (czerwony) zmieszany z niebiańskim celem (niebieski), czyli: fiolet, znak żałoby i smutku, mozolnej pracy i udręki, typowej dla środowiska pustynnego, gdzie wszystko jest wybrakowane i o wszystko

trzeba walczyć, by w końcu cieszyć się owocami spotkania z Bogiem. Jest to zarazem znak przelania krwi Syna Bożego, który obniżył nam wyżyny błękitnego nieba.

3 NIEDZIELA WIELKIEGO POSTU

Wyj 17,3-7; Rz 5,1-2.5-8; J 4,5-42

Podczas wędrówki przez pustynię Izraelczycy zaczęli szemrać przeciw

Mojżeszowi poddając Boga Jahwe na próbę, i niejako sprawdzając,

czy będzie On mógł dać im wody, której wciąż brakowało. Bóg wychodzi

naprzeciw ich oczekiwaniom i za pośrednictwem gestu Mojżesza ze skały

wyprowadza im wodę. Do tego wydarzenia nawiązuje dzisiejsza ewangelia,

która przedstawia Jezusa w rozmowie z Samarytanką, gdy ta przychodzi

do studni Jakubowej, by stamtąd zaczerpnąć wody. W rozmowie Jezus

wyjaśnia jej, że On sam jest prawdziwą studnią, czyli źródłem wody

zbawczej, która nigdy się nie wyczerpie, bowiem jest On zapowiadanym Mesjaszem posłanym przez Boga Ojca. On

okazuje się być tą skałą, z której niczym poprzez dotknięcie laską Mojżesza, czyli postawienia krzyża zbawczego na

ziemi, na którym On umrze, wytrysną wody zbawczego strumienia, które nigdy się wyczerpie; zbawienia, które

rozpoczęło się od Żydów, lecz będzie rozciągnięte na wszystkie ludy, bez względu na płeć i pochodzenie. W Jego

przyjściu na ziemię i zbawczym dziele „nadchodzi godzina, owszem, już jest, kiedy to prawdziwi czciciele będą

oddawać cześć Ojcu w Duchu i prawdzie, i takich to czcicieli chce mieć Ojciec”. Tak więc, w Jezusie Chrystusie

ludzkość dostąpiła zbawienia, jednak furtką do niego jest wiara, dzięki której można czerpać żywą wodę jak ze studni

zbawienia, która nigdy się nie wyczerpie. Św. Paweł zachęca więc wyznawców w Rzymie: „Dostąpiwszy

usprawiedliwienia przez wiarę, zachowujmy pokój z Bogiem, przez Pana naszego Jezusa Chrystusa, dzięki któremu

uzyskaliśmy przez wiarę dostęp do tej łaski, w której trwamy i chlubimy się nadzieją chwały Bożej. A nadzieja zawieść

nie może, ponieważ miłość Boża rozlana jest w naszych sercach przez Ducha Świętego, który został nam dany”. We

chrzcie chrystusowym, więc ostatecznie, znajdujemy źródło żywej wody na życie wieczne, mocą której możemy

oddawać Bogu prawdziwą cześć w duchu i prawdzie.
