Holy God, all is not right. We are not right with you or with each other. Anger and fear and disappointment rest uneasily in our hearts. It is hard to trust and it is even harder to forgive. Help us to turn to you to find the strength we need. Help us to look to the example of Jesus to see how to love. Help us look deep within ourselves for our own fault. We pray for your forgiveness, and we pray to be forgiven. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen. (silence for personal confession)

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) excerpts from A Brief Statement of Faith Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve… We trust in God the Holy Spirit everywhere the giver and renewer of life… In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace… With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Mission @FPCP

Family Fiesta Potluck - March 24th - 5:00 PM Sign-up Sheets on NIMC & Earth Care Bulletin Boards

Colina de Luz is an orphanage near Tijuana, Mexico that supports about 60 children. We are so blessed to be in a partnership with this organization. Our upcoming trip on April 23-29 will include construction projects, fellowship with the children and staff, and sharing God’s Word and love with each other. Participants fund the majority of the travel cost of each mission trip, but fund raising events help us to purchase construction materials and to subsidize other trip related expenses. This year our fund raising event is a low waste potluck dinner co-sponsored by the National/International Mission Committee and the Earth Care Team. The evening promises to be full of fun and fellowship – games for the kids, photographs and videos from prior mission trips, a free-will offering, and a chance to make new friends!

As we celebrate the fundraiser for Colina de Luz, we are also going to engage the idea of a

LOW WASTE POTLUCK at our church.

What does this mean?

We ask you to follow these simple guidelines:

Bring all potluck food in containers from home that are NOT disposable

Napkins made from recycled paper will be provided to reduce waste

All church dishes, cups and silverware will be provided and washed by volunteers

Help us reduce our eco footprint at church by reducing, reusing and recycling any items used during the evening

Ask your children how many of them participate in No Waste/Low Waste days at their school during lunch?

News & Announcements

It’s that time of year again! The Nominating Committee is looking for people willing to serve a three-year commitment as Deacons and Elders. Is there someone in the congregation whom you feel would make a good Elder/Deacon? Or do you feel called to serve as an officer? Either way, the Nominating Committee welcomes your suggestions! The role of the Deacons is focused on compassion for and ministry to our church family. Deacons serve in many ways, including working with charities, attending to those in need, and supporting the mission of FPCP. The Board of Deacons is involved with clothing and food drives, serving communion, Salvation Army bell ringing, Red Cross blood drives, several Christmas projects, college care packages, various food and fellowship events, service dinners, and the Unsung Hero program, among other activities. The role of the Elders is to serve on Session as spiritual leaders of the church. Elders oversee the spiritual growth of the congregation and manage the various ministries, committees and programs of FPCP. Each elder is appointed to a specific committee, and these committees include Local Mission, National/International Mission, Human Resources, Stewardship, Christian Nurture, Finance, Communications, Membership, Worship, and Building and Grounds.

RECOMMENDATION FOR DEACONS AND/OR ELDERS Name of referral ___________________________________________ (Please use the space above to nominate a member of the congregation to serve. A nomination does not guarantee a position on Session or the Board of Deacons. Recommendations may be placed in the Narthex mailbox of Elder Susan Hagen (Clerk of Session and Chairperson of the Church Nominating Committee) or emailed to [email protected])

Please join us in the church dining room at 6:00 p.m. for coffee and dessert. We will then walk across the street to attend the last Michigan Philharmonic concert of the season. Presbyterian Women Discussion of

The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe

Tomorrow, Monday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m.

―What are you reading?‖ This is the inspiring true story of a son and his mother, who start a ―book club‖ that brings them together as her life comes to a close. In 2007, Mary Anne returned from a humanitarian trip to Pakistan and Afghanistan suffering from what her doctors believed was a rare type of hepatitis. Months later she was diagnosed with a form of advanced pancreatic cancer. Over the next two years, Will and Mary Anne carry on conversations that are both wide-ranging and deeply personal, prompted by an eclectic array of books and a shared passion for reading. They share their hopes and concerns with each other—and rediscover their lives—through their favorite books. This is Will’s love letter to his mother, and theirs to the printed page.

This is the fourth and final book discussion offered by Presbyterian Women for 2018-2019 in a series, ―Their Stories.‖ All are welcome to the discussion at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel on March 18. Bring your suggestions for titles for the 2019-2020 book discussion series, as well. There is an appendix in The End of Your Life Book Club, listing the authors and books and stories mentioned in the book, that offers a great list of ideas for next year’s PW book discussions.

Can I Recycle Plastic Grocery Bags in the Recycling Bin? The short answer is NO, soft plastic cannot be recycled in most curbside recycling bins, including in Plymouth and our surrounding communities. Plastic bags, as common as they are, are still not as widely recycled as other forms of plastic. Typically made of high-density polyethylene or low-density polyethylene (LDPE, number 4 plastic), plastic bags and other soft plastics are difficult to recycle because of their form. Plastic bags are lightweight and can easily get blown to places they don’t belong, and because they’re thin and flexible, they have a tendency to get snagged or tangled in machinery. Most curbside recycling collection systems and processing equipment are designed to separate rigid materials like cans, bottles, or paper products. A good reminder: If the plastic material in question can be wrapped around your finger, it doesn't belong in your recycle bin. Sadly, many end up either in landfills or as ugly tree ornaments, urban tumbleweed, or worse, get mistaken as food by marine animals. While it’s best to reduce the amount of plastic bags you use by reusing them or remembering to bring your own reusable bags to the grocery store, you can still recycle plastic bags and keep them out of landfills or the environment. Most large grocery chains, home improvement stores, and retailers like Wal-Mart and Target provide collection bins, usually by the main entrance, for clean and dry soft plastics such as: •Grocery/carryout bags •Newspaper delivery bags •Dry cleaning wraps •Bread and produce bags •Zipper food storage bags •Plastic cereal box liners •Case wrap/shipping packaging (often found around diapers, snacks, water bottles & paper towels) Once these plastic bags and wraps are collected and shipped to the proper recycling facilities, they are turned into backyard decking, fences, playground equipment, pipes, pallets, crates, and even new plastic bags.
