SPIRITUAL ADOPTION PROGRAM
MONTH 1
Thank you for praying for me. I am one month old now. I have a heart pumping my blood and a backbone. I am very, very tiny and I appreciate your prayers.
A Reminder
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion. Prayer of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Please remember to pray daily for your Spiritual Adopted Baby and the baby’s mother and father. During your earthly life this spiritually adopted child of yours will be known only to God but in the world to come it is hoped that you will meet the child whose life was spared by your prayers and spend eternal happiness with them.

MARCH 12, 2017
All Glory, “LAUDS” and Honor to Thee, Redeemer King!
Lent is a traditional time of prayer and fasting.
Next to the Eucharistic Liturgy is the Liturgy of the Hours or The Divine Office, executed at cer-tain points during the day: Lauds, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, Compline. Understandably, it is in monasteries where this round the clock liturgy can be constantly and completely observed.
However, there is nothing preventing Catholics alone or in groups to pray any one of these ses-sions at the appointed hour.
There is another religion in which we see its adherents deliberately stopping alone or in commu-nity at appointed times during the day to engage in prayer. So, our traditional custom is not unique.
The “hours” that are most well known are Lauds or Morning Prayer and Vespers or Evening Prayer.
Sunday Vespers in the parish is not as common as it used to be but is still offered in some churches.
Some Catholic parishes have added Lauds to their morning worship schedule. Holy Child is one of them.
Lent is a perfect time to test the waters of this prayer form.
There has been a faithful group of 10 to 12 parishioners who have gathered for Lauds since its inception here. Ask any of them and they will tell you that the daily recitation in community of the Psalms, Canticles, Petitions and Prayers of the Day is most rewarding.
Lauds not only provides its own inspirations but gives a spirit of recollection to those who stay on for daily Mass.
Participation in Morning Prayer for itself alone is a laudable practice. There are a few who come deliberately just to celebrate Lauds as their church visit for the day. It stands by itself as a suffi-cient prayer experience. (“Mornings are better when you talk to God first.”)
Lauds provides for the widest participation of the people and does not necessarily need a cleric to lead it. In due course, it would be a wonderful development to have lay leadership of this ser-vice.
If you expose yourself to the experience of Lauds during Lent you will be eminently prepared for the Holy Week Service of Tenebrae which is a combination of Lauds and The Office of Readings done on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday in the light of the Tenebrae hearse, or candelabra.
At the end of Lent, besides “having been prepared” for those solemn holy week hours, one might very well find that one has acquired a taste for the beautiful experience of shared daily prayer at Lauds and will find it hard to let go of.
