Over the last month QAD announced new versions of QAD DSCP and QAD TMS. Not to be outdone, led by VP of Product Management Jeff Phillips, QAD QMS is on schedule for a new release later this month that includes over 80 features to 9 of the 10 QAD QMS modules to support IATF 16949.

The IATF (International Automotive Task Force) updated its standard for quality management recently. Automotive manufacturers will need to comply by September 2018. QAD’s automotive lead Terry Onica wrote a paper about the IATF 16949 and its impact on supplier that is available on Sales Resources. QAD QMS will go a long way to helping automotive suppliers meet the new IATF requirements. How did it happen? 

Jeff, Michael Mallen and Terry met last October and mapped out an IATF 16949 solution sheet. The dev team then built the capabilities needed to meet the new solution requirements. In addition, there will be two new/significantly enhanced modules, Risk and Performance Management. We have previewed the new modules with an analyst firm and an important customer and received very positive feedback. Stay tuned for more information regarding these features and two new modules as they hit the market in August!

Industry Diagrams: More of Them and Easier to Access

Over the last month or so, a full set of industry diagrams were unveiled, made available on Sales Resources and inserted into applicable Vertical Presentations on Sales Resources. The industry-specific diagrams, however, were all embedded in a

single presentation, making it clumsy for Sales to access a single diagram if needed for a customer or prospect presentation. 

That has been fixed due to the efforts of Alex Killian, who has split out the diagrams into individual entries in Sales Resources, specifically for Consumer Products, Food & Beverage,High Tech, Industrial and Life Sciences. 

What about Automotive you might ask? Automotive, now has not 1, not 2 but 3 diagrams, one for the Chevy Bolt, one for the Ford F150 and also for the Range Rover Evoque.

Congrats to QAD China Automotive Winning Six Net New Deals From the Risk Management Campaign! 

The QAD China marketing team ran the Risk Management campaign last year. Because of the email campaign, an offsite workshop, and MMOG/LE training, QAD China sales team led by Jay Cao, closed six net new deals! The leads came from the Hangzhou MMOG/LE and Zhejiang Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ZAAM) workshops. With the support of these two local automotive associations, QAD China won these deals. Read more...

QAD Used by 80 Percent of the Top 20 Suppliers in Global Automotive Supply Chain 

In June, Automotive News published the top global 100 automotive suppliers in 2016. Jay Pena provided some in-depth research reviewing each of the top 100 and if they use QAD. Jay found that 80% of the Top 20 Auto Suppliers use QAD! Thank you to Scott Matulis for the recentpress release that you can share this fact with customers and prospects.

The one constant in observing market trends is that ultimately, it’s the consumer who will decide what they will consume, and, just as importantly, how they will consume it. As we approach critical mass for autonomous car technology manufacturers, it would be wise to keep in mind that consumer adoption is the most important factor. QAD QMS has Added Over 80 Features to 9/10 Modules to Support IATF 16949 

In the upcoming August release of QAD QMS, the development team lead by Jeff Phillips will have added over 80 features to 9 out of 10 modules to support the new IATF 16949 requirements!  These requirements came as a result of our mapping/creation of the IATF 16949 solution sheet by Jeff Phillips, Michael Mallen and myself last October when the new IATF 16949 hit the market.  In addition, there will be two new/significantly enhanced modules, Risk and Performance Management.  We have shown the new modules to LNS Research and Adient and

have received very positive feedback.  Stay tuned for more information regarding these features and two new modules as they hit the market in August!

COMPETITIVE BITS C-Bit: SAP Updates its S/4HANA Cloud – Focus on Manufacturing and

Globalization 

On August 7, SAP announced availability of its latest S/4HANA Cloud, dubbed 1708 Release. 1708 is the third SAP/4HANA Cloud release this year. While financials and procurement areas were enhanced, of particular interest to us is the manufacturing enhancements to S/4HANA Cloud. Up until now S/4HANA Cloud for Manufacturing has been a slim offering. SAP is steadily expanding its capabilities. [Note: S/4HANA for Manufacturing has been available on premise but only partially on cloud]. 

In this round, SAP “delivered major innovations in demand driven replenishment and advanced variant configuration, as well as updates in other areas.” 

The demand driven replenishment enhancement is based on a “new demand-driven MRP based on buffer levels resulting in optimal replenishment order” avoiding the “bull-whip effect.”

Variant configuration helps customers “model the configurable product with a configurable BOM, so your business process can handle highly individualized products in sales and manufacturing. This means you can extend make-to-stock and make-to-order production with variant configuration.”

Despite the enhancements to S/4HANA Cloud Manufacturing, the cloud version continues to trail the more full-featured on-premise offering. We should expect SAP to continue to enhance the cloud version several times per year (4 times seems likely) until it catches up with the on-premise version. The next planned update is in November. 

SAP also cited expansion to globalization capabilities of S/4HANA Cloud, adding subsidiary support for financial reporting, inventory management and production. It also added Sweden and Ireland in terms of regulatory support, 5 new languages taking the count to 25 countries and 15 languages. It also announced a new SAP Cloud data center in Japan.

C-Bit: Oracle Announces New Supply Chain and Other Cloud Capabilities

On August 8th, Oracle introduced new capabilities for Oracle Supply Chain Management Cloud. According to Oracle, new capabilities and enhancements are available across Oracle Supply Chain Management (SCM) Cloud, Oracle Customer Experience (CX) Cloud Suite, and Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Cloud. From a supply chain perspective, Oracle stated that “Oracle SCM Cloud delivers a next-generation supply chain platform that enables organizations to embrace outside-in demand driven processes and capabilities without the complexities and constraints of traditional supply chain architectures.” While indicating new capabilities across several supply chain solutions, Oracle highlighted the following enhancements:

Information-Driven Navigation: All user functions are now accessible through role-specific dashboards and landing pages composed of analytic “infolets” that highlight issues and direct users to relevant actions

Inventory: Ability to source all requisitions from internal warehouses Manufacturing: Full support of outside processing Mobility: A new mobile application to collect and vote on product innovation ideas Order Management: Integration with Oracle Configure, Price and Quote (CPQ) Cloud and the ability

to use the SCM Configurator within CPQ User Experience: Completely redesigned self-service procurement constructed around the familiar

shopping cart experience

Key takeaway: This announcement underscores Oracle’s focus on cloud. If Oracle can continue to integrate their cloud offerings and upgrade internationalization capabilities, they will increase their competitiveness. Note that Oracle is aware of their weakness in localizations weakness as evidenced by recent announcement about the expansion of country localizations for India and Brazil.

C-Bit: Microsoft and Oracle Talk Blockchain Strategies and Plans

Microsoft and Oracle each recently shared plans regarding blockchain technology. 

Microsoft announced its Coco Framework for enterprise blockchain networks. Coco is open-source technology that helps blockchain networks meet many enterprise requirements by designing specifically for "confidential consortiums" where nodes and actors are explicitly declared and controlled. Microsoft believes Coco presents an alternative approach to ledger construction, giving enterprises the scalability, distributed governance and enhanced confidentiality they need without sacrificing the security they expect.

In a related announcement, MSFT blockchain partner Intel explained how Microsoft's blockchain framework integrates Intel Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX) to deliver improved transaction speed, scale and data confidentiality to enterprises. This "accelerates the enterprise readiness of blockchain technology, allowing developers to create flexible and more secure enterprise blockchain applications that can be easily managed by businesses." 

Oracle, which joined the Hyperledger Consortium, outlined its blockchain strategy objectives, including: 

Addressing mission-critical enterprise needs such as scalability, security, integration, and performance to remove barriers to adoption and support blockchain applications in production.

Making it easy for customers to deploy, manage and monitor blockchain and reduce the cost for deploying blockchain by offering it as a PaaS Cloud solution.

Accelerate the development and integration of blockchain applications with Oracle Cloud App Dev platform.

Help Oracle SaaS cloud customers enable their enterprise processes to securely share data and conduct distributed transactions with 3rd party applications and external distributed ledger technologies using blockchain cloud platform.

At this stage, Microsoft’s blockchain investments seem ahead of Oracle: Microsoft already offers tools for development and is actively pursuing alliances. Oracle has said little about the status of the development of its initial offering or when it might be available.

Oxitec is a UK headquartered Life Sciences company at the forefront of the battle against the Zika virus and other mosquito borne diseases such as malaria and dengue fever.

Oxitec use advanced genetics to insert a self-limiting gene into its mosquitoes. The gene is passed on to the insect's offspring, so when male Oxitec engineered mosquitoes are released into the wild and mate with wild females, their offspring inherit the self-limiting trait. The resulting offspring will die before reaching adulthood, and the local mosquito population will decline.

As detailed in previous Ring The Bells this was a competitive new business deal via a third part selection consultancy, Lumenia. Now we needed to deliver! Oxitec Brazil went live as Phase 1 of the project in only 12 weeks.

Phase 2 consisted of the implementation at Oxitec's UK HQ of QAD 2016 EE in the Cloud as well as the first phase of Oxitec's AS deployment to enhance their internal processes.

After a lot of hard work by the local UK services team ably assisted by the QAD AS team Oxitec UK have successfully gone live on QAD 2016 and AS.

Kinnerton

Kinnerton is no ordinary brand - it was the first brand to offer character chocolate in the UK, way back in 1978. It is now the fourth largest chocolate producer in Great Britain. The company now employs approximately 1,000 people across its multiple sites.

Every year Kinnerton produces more than 10 million Advent calendars and more than 20 million Easter eggs and, thanks to its broad range, is Britain's most important producer of seasonal goods. Among them are such popular licensed children's and family brands as 'Disney', 'Hello Kitty', 'Star Wars', 'Cornetto' and 'Mini Milk', which have enabled the chocolate specialist to achieve major growth.

Kinnerton's customers include all of the major UK supermarkets as well as regional and discount retailers.

Kinnerton began their QAD journey with a single site in 1996 but since that time the solution has grown as the company has expanded through acquisition and organic growth. In 2012 the entire group was acquired by Zertus GmbH, a German confectionery group with, surprise, surprise, an SAP ERP standard. 

This acquisition added a degree of urgency to the ongoing upgrade discussions between QAD and Kinnerton (who wanted to remain on QAD and avoid SAP at all costs). The group was primarily sat on QAD 2008 SE which would be retired in 2018 (although a sister company within the UK group had already deployed 2014 EE) and that situation could potentially create compliance headaches for Kinnerton.

To drive the process forward the QAD team delivered an Upgrade QScan and worked with the Kinnerton management team to build a comprehensive business case for the upgrade to deliver to Zertus (including some eye watering cost of delay figures!).

We received the final sign off from Kinnerton for Phase 1 of their migration to Enterprise Edition earlier this month.

What's Next: Once the first site is live, the group is keen to deploy the upgraded solution to their remaining sites in the UK & Ireland to ensure consistency throughout their systems and processes. Kinnerton are also in the midst of investigating their demand planning and supply chain solutions at present (our DSCP Team is already engaged). Stay tuned!

GHSP

Vertical: Automotive

Project: Re-Start and conversion to Enterprise Unified Bundle

Location: Grand Haven, MI

Customer since: 1998

GHSP is a subsidiary of JSJ Corporation located in Grand Haven, MI and established in 1924. GHSP makes up more that 60% of the revenue for JSJ. GHSP is a leading supplier of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems to the automotive and transportation industries. GHSP also provides electronic controls for premium appliance manufacturers.

They have facilities in the U.S., Mexico, and China.

 Why QAD: The goal for GHSP is to move to a stable platform that will allow the business to implement additional applications in a phased approach. Their goal is to stabilize the system and take the path of least risk. Risk mitigation was the biggest factor in their decision to stabilize on QAD, and manage their double digit growth.  

Competition: Plex 

Congratulations to: the entire QAD team who helped win GHSP, defend against Plex and re-start a global/growing Auto account which had been off maintenance for 8+ years. This deal has been over two years in the making and initially started as a non-compliant license audit, turned into a competitive RFP bid and eventually a key WIN for QAD.

Project: QAD 2016

Location: Southampton, UK

Customer since: 2011

i2O provides a suite of smart network solutions to help water utilities respond to the challenges created by increasing and urbanising population, more extreme weather events, old and ageing infrastructure, an ageing workforce, more demanding and more vocal customers, and a lack of appetite for increasing bills.

The business benefits achieved by i2O’s clients include 20-40% reductions in leakage, bursts, operational costs and energy bills, more than 5 years added to asset life, improved customer service, and a return on investment within 12 months.

In the past ten years i2O systems have been installed in over 25 countries by more than 100 utility companies.

I2O were our third ever QAD Cloud customer in the UK way back in 2011 (when QAD Cloud was still QAD On Demand). Initially deploying to a single site in the UK, this high tech start up spun out from Southampton University has since opened additional offices in Spain, Malaysia and Colombia.

Having implemented EE from the onset i2O have been using the latest version of QAD from the start. However, i2O's senior management felt that the time was right to look at upgrading to the latest release of QAD (and they were also very interested in Channel Islands).

Although a smaller client, the i2O upgrade did have some complex areas, namely the upgrade of some of their Malaysian site's customisations, the new YAB deployment process as well as a move from QRF to Minisoft (in order for i2O to be more self sufficient).

i2O Water successfully went live on the 17th July 2017, on time and on budget.

What's Next: i2O Water have signed up to be an early adopter of Channel Islands, this project is now underway, look out for further information on this in future updates. Stay tuned!

Carlex Glass America, LLC manufactures a wide variety of replacement glass, including original auto glass parts for many Nissan, Ford, Subaru, Hyundai, Lincoln and Kia vehicles. The majority of products supplied to the assembly plants are sold in the aftermarket as top quality replacement parts.

Why QAD QMS: Carlex needed a quality solution that helped solve their needs around automating their APQP/PPAP (Process Flow, FMEA, Control Plan) process. Additionally, they needed it to help meet IATF16949. We illustrated the robustness of the QAD QMS solution over Plex and the value it provided in automating the Carlex QMS process.

Procept BioRobotics

Company: PROCEPT BioRobotics is a privately held medical device company committed to providing surgeons with innovative new technology for the treatment of men with prostate disease. Their first product developed was the AquaBeam, an intelligent image-guided robotic system delivering Aquablation, a waterjet tissue resection modality. The AquaBeam is currently for investigational use only in the United States and is not marketed for sale. PROCEPT is headquartered in Redwood Shores, California.

The competition: Expandable, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, GDE, Epicor.                                                                                                  Why we won: The client had experience with QAD and was looking for an effective and efficient system in running the life-sciences business.  After evaluating the competition, Procept chose QAD Cloud for its full featured ERP functionality, specifically financials, as well as the benefits of partnering with Strategic to execute the life sciences validation processes.  

Dura Automotive Systems

Dura Automotive Systems, LLC is a leading independent designer and global manufacturer of driver and seating control systems, safety hardware, structural body systems, exterior trim and integrated glass systems. Based in Auburn Hills, MI, USA, Dura has been a QAD customer for two decades. Dura has enjoyed considerable success and today boasts that their products can be found on 300 automotive models for OEMs in the Americas, EMEA and Asia/Pacific. With 12,000 employees at 36 locations in 15 countries, and revenues of $1.6 billion, Dura serves a long list of automotive OEMs and tier 1 suppliers, from VW and Volvo to Nexteer and Bosch.

Dura upgraded to eB2 in 2006 but, despite several Q-Scans, studies and discoveries, for a variety of reasons Dura bypassed additional upgrades for long time. With several senior management changes in 2015 (CIO, CFO and COO), however, and our continued efforts, Dura decided to start rolling on EE in late 2016 and bringing QAD Cloud into the mix. With our strategy working, Dura just agreed to a 7-figure maintenance renewal. 

We also recognized that several other solutions and services could help Dura, including more QAD Cloud, QAD Automation Solutions, QAD DSCP, QAD Supplier Portal and QAD QMS. After a long sales cycle, we just closed a substantial 6-figure deal for QAD QMS with further growth potential. We also are making excellent progress on the other fronts as well.
