BOARD MEMBERS MESSAGE FROM THE
On July 6, 2010 the Marion Regional Healthcare System Board of Directors sold a significant portion of their assets to Community Health Systems of Nashville, Tenn. The transition from a hospital operation to a Foundation has been a very challenging experience. The Board of Directors immediately began the task of establishing the Marion County Healthcare Foundation as well as continuing to fund and operate the Helping Hands Free Medical Clinic. In 2011-2012 we completed many of the tasks related to the sale of assets, we purchased and renovated the Mullins Foundation offices, we completed the non-profit organizational structure for the Foundation, and we prepared to receive grant requests beginning in January 2012. During 2012 the Foundation’s website was completed (MARIONCOUNTYHFOUNDATION.ORG). Many of our 2013 grant requests were prepared using the forms and information included on the website. The Grant Committee received 41 funding requests totaling more than $2.2 million and approximately $ 0.8 million of these requests were approved and funded. The Foundation Board of Directors is very excited about the 2014 year and as our mission states we shall improve the quality of life in Marion County through inspired philanthropy , grants, and innovative community programs.
