JAVA DEVELOPERS CAN QUICKLY ADD MAPPING FUNCTIONALITY AND

    VISUALIZATION TO ANY APPLICATION

    OVERV I E W

MapXtreme Java is a 100% Java mappingengine designed to enable the use of locationintelligence on the desktop, over the internetor through your organizations intranet orextranet. Designed for organizations seekingbroad deployment of mapping and location-based analysis, MapXtreme Java offersapplication developers a highly-visual,intuitive component for integrating mappingfunctionality into any application. MapXtremeJava complies with J2EE specifications and

provides developers with unmatched flexibility.MapXtreme Java enables you to run mappingapplications on a centrally-managed serverlowering hardware and administrative costswhile drastically improving applicationperformance, reliability and security.

    Robust Mapping Toolsand Functionality

With robust mapping functions for displaying, selecting and manipulating data, you havethe ability to create powerful applicationsfor use throughout your organization. These applications allow for the easy sharingof information and insight.

Web Application Wizard A rapid deploymenttool that enables application developmentwithout coding. The wizard automaticallydeploys an application and writes out codethat a developer can use to build morecomplex or customized applications.

Search by Attributes Search your data usingmultiple attributesnot just one.

Theme Wizard Easily create feature andlabel themes based on your actual data. For example, use your logo to indicatestore/office locations. You control the style, region, line or symbol.

Map Display & Manipulation Pan, zoomand re-center maps. Click on map objects andretrieve associated database information.

Data Binding Enables you to use data fromnon-spatial databases and combine it with

    MapInfo

TAB files to display the informationon a map. For example, plot revenue based onlocation to visually identify areas of high salesvolume.

Layer Control Manage multiple layers of geographic information such as data layercolors, zoom layering, visibility and labelstyles. Plus, quickly zoom in or out to see theboundaries of a given layer.

Style Editor Create and manage customerand industry specific symbol libraries with

    full XML style capability.

Spatial Selections Select and work withspatial data at a selected location or withina given rectangle, radius or polygon.

GRID Support GRIDs enable the storageof attribute information on a per pixel basisand can be used for continuous shading foritems such as elevation, radio signal strengthor temperature.

Export Formats Export GIF, SVG or JPEG files.

    Summary

Organizations are realizing thebenefits of including location

intelligence as part of their day-

    to-day operational and analysis

    tools. This additional capability

    has many benefits including:

    Helping employees make more

    informed decisions

    Improving customer services

    Augmenting facility and asset

    management

Free Maps and Data A world map, majorcities, popular boundaries and more are allincluded at no additional cost.

    100% Java

MapXtreme Java is written exclusively in Javathus offering both developers and end userskey advantages such as:

Scalability MapXtreme Java can scale tohandle heavy usage demand. MapXtreme doesthis by using intelligent Java threading toefficiently serve multiple concurrent users. This results in low memory consumption peruser and scalability as CPUs are added.

Multi-Platform MapXtreme Java can runin mixed hardware (UNIX, Windows, etc.)environments and is designed to run with J2EEcompliant servlet containers. It delivers maps toany web browser on a PC or UNIX workstationwithout requiring a proprietary plug-in.

Write Once, Run Anywhere MapXtreme Javaapplications can be migrated and re-usedregardless of future hardware or platformchoices thus saving development time and cost.

Fast Application DevelopmentMapXtreme Java ships with a set of visualand non-visual JavaBeans TM that speedapplication development because they canbe used with visual Internet DevelopmentEnvironments (IDEs) such as Borland

JBuilderTM, Oracle JDeveloper or Sun ONE

Studio. Developers can use the standarddrag and drop and set the propertiesmechanism to add objects to the applications.

    Flexibility

MapXtreme Java supports a variety of webdeployments including thin, medium andthick web browser clients.

In thin client deployments, all map generation/rendering is performed on the server withthe client only receiving interactive GIF, SVGor JPEG images. On the server, MapXtremeJava runs as a servlet in conjunction witha web server or web server/application

    server combination.

In medium client deployments, the webbrowser loads a Java applet and receives GIF,GML and JPEG images. The applet enables amore robust and flexible user interface whileminimizing data downloaded from the server.

In thick client deployments, an applet isloaded and the map is streamed to the appletas a series of vectors. Map functionalityresides on the client applet. This environmentallows the most flexibility and is best suited

    for higher bandwidth intranets.

    Database Connectivity

MapXtreme Java works with spatial data storedin server-side databases. This allows userswith the proper security rights to access dataincluding create, move and delete map objects.
