Get ready to welcomeback a bit of the past to thehome show when it comesto Maple Ridge in May.
Back in the1980s the RidgeMeadows HomeShow hosted afew huge fashionshows, accordingto coordinatorCass Winder.
“People lovedit,” said Winder.
“Since themoment wemoved to PlanetIce we havewanted to doa bathing suitfashion show – becauseof the timing – we are onthe brink of summer,” sheadded.
Mission accomplished.Two fashion shows, with
“real-sized” models are setto be held on Saturday,May 4 at 1 and 3 p.m.
MiCo’s Swimwear is sup-plying all the swimwear.
“It’s a unique littleshop in Valley Fair Mallthat belongs in WestVancouver. It’s great,”Winder said.
“One of things aboutMiCo’s is that they caterto all sizes, all ages, allstyles,” she explained.
Coming up with ideas isnot the hard part of organ-izing the three-day event,Winder said.
“It’s makingthe ideas work.Ideas are a dimea dozen.”
The organ-ization that putson the homeshow, whichWinder has beeninvolved withsince 1995, is anon-profit soci-ety and is nottied to maximiz-ing profit.
“Our first com-mitment is doing a greatshow, providing a show-case for businesses, serviceclubs, and others who par-ticipate,” she said.

ges against any of the officersinvolved in the shooting of 26-year-old Angus David Mitchell.Consequently, the VPD willnot be forwarding a report orrecommendation for charges toCrown counsel.
The review was completedby the VPD at the request ofRCMP.

that he was a wanted man.An eagle-eyed neighbour,
Susanne Murphy of MapleRidge, who was credited withsaving lives by calling 9-1-1,heard on the radio to watchout for Mitchell’s van. Whendriving to the dikes to take herdog for a walk, she spotted hisvehicle and made the call thatbrought an army of officers torural Maple Ridge.
Plainclothes members set up surveil-lance on the van and then called in the
assistance of the Lower Mainland RCMPemergency response team (ERT), alongwith police service dogs section, as wellas Air One.
ERT arrived and attempted to bringMitchell into custody. Gunfire wasexchanged and Mitchell was fatallywounded, Supt. Dave Walsh explained tomedia immediately after the shooting.

Local Salvation Army helps mainlypeople who are housed.
by Maria [email protected]
In 2012, the local Salvation Army servedmore than 120,000 meals, housed almost500 people in its shelter, and made thou-sands of referrals for its clients to get them
back on their feet. The Caring Place released statistics last
week based on a survey of its clients and the2012 Housing Survey.
Caring Place director Darrell Pilgrim point-ed out that the statistics show 62 per cent oftheir clients are not on income assistance.
Seventy-one per cent of respondents saidthey either rent or own property.
“The vast majority [of Caring Place clients]are not homeless – they’re struggling withpoverty,” Pilgrim said.
The statistics also show there are growingneeds among the seniors population, Pilgrimsaid, for example, 40 per cent of those com-ing for meals were older than 50.
As previously reported in The TIMES, 93per cent of people who attended the mealprogram were from Maple Ridge or PittMeadows. Further, 86 per cent say they havelived in the area for more than two years. The statistics also show that 38 per cent hada mental-health diagnosis.

The YWCA has started agroup in Maple Ridge formothers who are raisingtheir kids on their own.by Maria [email protected]
Single mothers face a range ofchallenges from financial to legalto emotional – but a local grouphas started meeting regularly toprovide support and encouragethese women.
With recent donations fromthree credit unions, the YWCAhas been able to expand itssingle-mothers groups to MapleRidge and other communities, and the Maple Ridge group hasbeen meeting at the FamilyEducation Centre since October– starting next week, they willmeet on Monday evenings from5 to 7 p.m.
The facilitator of the programis Sheri Kupser-Hicks, who her-self became a single mother sixyears ago and attended a supportgroup.
The group was a safe placewhere she could discuss prob-lems she was facing without feel-ing judged.
“I really relied on that [sup-port],” she said, adding thatbeing part of the group raised herself-esteem.
“It was empowering – I knew Iwasn’t alone,” she said.
When single mothers meet ina support group, they are build-ing a network of support for thechallenges they are facing rais-ing their children on their own,Kupser-Hicks said.
These challenges range fromfinancial problems, housing, day-care, legal issues to employment
and schooling.Child minding is provided
while the group meets, and start-ing this Monday, they will alsooffer dinner.
Maple Ridge resident MelissaWarner joined the group just lastweek after attending a single-moms group in Port Coquitlam. She found that the groups allowher to find friends who also havekids and she has something incommon with.
“Every day is a challenge –financially to emotionally to try-ing to find that time to yourself,”Warner said.
Rebecca Bodo has been attend-ing the Maple Ridge group sinceOctober, and she said she getsemotional support and informa-tion about parenting and self-carefrom the group.
She also has realized she’s notalone, and the group has givenher a safe place to share.
“This is the one place whereI’ve been able to let it all hangout,” Bodo said.
The YWCA received fund-ing from three credit unions,Vancity, Coast Capital, andEnvision Financial, which willtotal $450,000 over a three-year
period, allowing them to expandtheir single-mother groups to sev-eral communities.
“It’s very, very generous,” saidChantelle Krish, public relationsmanager with the YWCA. “We’reincredibly grateful.”
Having this group to supportsingle mothers in Maple Ridge inwhatever they do, “is going tobenefit the community and thesemoms,” Kupser-Hicks said.
The fledgling group still hasroom to grow and those interest-ed in joining can contact Kupser-Hicks at [email protected].

A provincial awardrecognized the qualityof shows at The ACT.by Maria [email protected]
Something fresh, some-thing familiar, pushingboundaries, and promot-ing Canadian talent – thisis the balancing act thatLindy Sisson, executivedirector of The ACT, faceswhen choosing perform-ances for a Maple Ridgeand Pitt Meadows audi-ence.
Much of her work isabout building the trust ofher audience, so that whenshe does bring somethingunfamiliar to the stage atThe ACT, her audiencewill take a chance andcome and see it.
A presenter in a perform-ance arts centre is taskedwith connecting the artistwith the audience – theperson who “curates” theperforming arts, Sissonexplained, which keeps“live performance alive”focusing on the artists.
“Without the presenterswho are willing to take therisks, you wouldn’t seehalf the artists that youdo,” Sisson said.
Sisson was recognizedas Presenter of the Yearby the BC Touring Councilthis past Saturday.
While other staff takecare of the gallery andprogramming, Sisson isin charge of live perform-ances in the theatre por-tion of The ACT.
To get an act to a venueis a lot of work, andSisson’s job is to decidewhat performances willsell tickets, but also topush boundaries lettingthe audience experiencesomething they haven’tseen before.
When choosing pro-grams, Sisson said shetends to go with some newshows, some familiar pro-grams, and programs thatcross all genres.
Sisson said she’s build-ing “brand loyalty” sopeople who see somethingnew being offered at TheACT will trust her choiceand come to see it.
Her role is also to pro-mote Canadian artists, something that recordingcompanies no longer do,Sisson said.
Canadian Heritage sup-port has risen from $7,000per year, to a recent two-year grant of $14,000 peryear, “which means theysee the value of what wepresent,” Sisson said.
Choosing shows forThe ACT can be “tricky,”Sisson said, because theaudience is largely a com-muter population who canalso choose to stay down-town for a show.
“But I think peoplelike to go to shows intheir own backyard,” sheadded.
The ACT is also attract-ing people from around
the Lower Mainland, withsome unique shows likeCeltic Crossroads and54•40.
“It’s cool when peoplecome here,” she said.

The afternoon festivities includedcake, a fundraising haircut forBueschkens that generated about$180 for the foundation, a lotof socializing, and music by theMaple Ridge Concert Band.
“They add to the ball parkexperience,” said Stone, who’salso a band member.

Maudlin Alert: The screensaveron my computer is an old familypicture featuring me, my brother, and our parents.
My daughter found it and placedit there, God bless her.
Every day when I sit down here,I look at them, not thinking muchof it, maybe cracking a mild smileor whispering a “hello family.”
We lived in two houses when Iwas young, and an apartment fora while between dad’s jobs. Thismakes it difficult to put a time-line on the photo, but if I had toguess, I’d say it was the mid-1950s, which wouldmake me less than 10 years old, my brother sixor seven, and my parents in their mid- to late-30s.
We’re seated at the kitchen table, posing forsomeone. I don’t know who was taking the pic-ture but I am eternally grateful they did.
Those rare times I drag out the old albums, Itake enormous pleasure from their contents. Noteveryone has that photographic history; thereweren’t cellphones then, or Instamatics, andPolaroid had just come out with their instantcamera.
Nevertheless, here is my mother with her broadsmile, displaying those teeth she was always soproud of. She appears to be “dressed-up,” as theyused to say, and my brother is on her lap, wear-ing what I believe were Roy Rogers pajamas.
I can see the name on a similar outfit that I’mwearing. My dad in a sports shirt and jacket isnext to John, his eyes partly closed against theflash; and I am at the end of the table, lookingrather serious while everyone else appears to besmiling. Witness the seeds of my grumpiness.
There is a cigarette package in front of mymother. They both smoked. Everyone did.
There are empty Canada Dry bottles on thetable, some of the contents consumed by Johnand me, the rest into a glass with some rye.Always the rye whisky, even on the trips to the
grandparents’ cottage, when dadwould hand us the green colabottle in the back seat and tellus to drink half; the bottle wouldthen go back to the front seat andbe refilled with the rye.
It never occurred to us thatmom and dad might have a“drinking problem.” All theirfriends were drinkers.
There are also condimentsspread about the table, and in thebackground, dishes, a drying rack,a toaster, metal ice cube trays.
This could have been any oneof thousands of families, but it was mine, andlately I’ve been thinking about them a great deal, and missing them. I am the only one still alive, and am older than they were when they died.
I am of the decidedly non-medical opinion thatwe were all depressives.
Dad died of lung cancer; they found my mothera year later in her apartment, gone from alcoholand loneliness.
My brother killed himself when he was 40.I take an anti-depressant every day since I was
diagnosed with cancer at Christmas 2005.Whenever I am feeling a little down, as it were
– you can usually tell because TW is hiding allthe sharp objects, the belts, pieces of rope, thekey to the balcony door – I take to bed and countmy blessings: family, home, Gortex rainwear, bigscreen TV, etc.
These thoughts then segue into ones about my“screensaver” family, and before you know it, I’mwishing I was a lad, back in Ontario, seeking sol-ace from my mother over some misfortune. I getover it. I get out the old albums, maybe buy someginger ale and spend some time in remembrance.
And before you start to think that, hey there’sanother side of the curmudgeonly columnist, itturns out my latest descent into the abyss wasactually a side-effect of drug withdrawal from apain-killer.

Our View
Smart decisionsfavour Dix, so far
Adrian Dix made two moves thisweek that should make Christy Clarkfeel more antsy about the election.
The NDP leader closed the door onan invitation to debate Premier Clarkone-on-one during the election cam-paign that gets underway next week –an invitation that the BC Liberal leaderhad already accepted.
He also made a bold promise toincrease provincial tax subsidies to thefilm industry “when” he is premier.
In regards to the (non-)debate, bothleaders made the right decision. Clarkneeds to assert herself asthe only alternative to aswing to the left.
But with opinion pollsalready heavily in Dix’sfavour, there was no wayfor him to win, and Clark only stoodto gain in a debate that left out a BCConservative party likely to siphonvotes from the BC Liberals’ apparentlydwindling supply. The Greens wouldalso have been left out, and while theytypically draw from the NDP, they’re notlikely as significant this time around.
The decision to increase subsidiesto the province’s “creative” industry– actually movie and television – alsosets Dix apart from Clark, who is seen(legitimately or not) as having sat onher hands while other parts of Canadasweetened the pot for film-makers,impacting negatively on B.C.’s billion-dollar share of that industry.
Those subsidies will probably have asignificant impact in Maple Ridge andPitt Meadows, where there are specialdeals for filmmakers working outside ofa defined Vancouver core area.
Those who oppose the subsidy hike– from about 35 up to 40 per cent onwages – on the grounds that taxpayersshouldn’t have to pay might note thatit’s miniscule compared to the subsidiesannually poured into resource industriesand other corporate recipients.
Dix was right both economically andpolitically. Now it’s Clark’s turn.

Dear Editor,In a democratic society there is no room
for discrimination [Affirmative actionabout equality, April 9 Letters, TIMES]. Wedo not end discrimination with social engin-eering which creates resentment and itsown version of “hobbling by chains.”
Affirmative action is motivated in partby good intentions, and has its place, forinstance, for low-income and working-classstudents, but should be irrespective of race, gender, etc. Giving preferential treatment tothe latter is counterproductive.
To try to redress past wrongs by inflict-ing new wrongs is defeating the purpose ofending discrimination. As well as placingpeople in positions they are not qualified for
and beyond their abilities, it devalues theiractual worth.
Affirmative action can reinforce existingprejudices and create more self-doubt inrecipients. It can cause dissension betweenraces, women and men, and ethnic groups.
A beneficiary of affirmative action mighttake umbrage at the assumption they wouldhave not got the employment without it.
Contrary to having a narrow view of theworld, let individual freedom reign. Let thebest woman, man of any race, or other con-sideration win.
Cherryl Katnich, Maple Ridge

Individual freedom beats affirmative action
Dear Editor,Does Cherryl Katnich [EI rules allow
exceptions that punish legitimatelyunemployed workers, March 21 Letters,TIMES] or the federal government expectus to believe that people are asking to belaid off for the sole purpose of collectingEmployment Insurance?
Cherryl’s letter actually implies thatcompanies have laid off Canadian employ-ees so they could hire foreign workers, asapproved by the federal government. Whywould they do this? Is it because they don’thave to pay as much?
Maybe it’s because they don’t have tooffer benefits or overtime, and if a foreignworker complains about having to handleasbestos or other toxic substances withoutproper protection, they will be fired anddeported immediately.
Canadians are not that ignorant. Weknow what is going on. We’re slowly beingreplaced by legal immigrants.
Raw resources (along with higher payingjobs) are being exported at record rates toforeign countries with lower human rightsand labour standards, while it is becomingharder and harder to collect E.I. from a sys-tem we’ve paid into our entire lives.
Meanwhile, companies are skirtingCanadian laws and bypassing Canadianswith dozens of years of pertinent experi-ence, so they can hire foreign workers atcut rates and have them under firm controlso they can save money on human rightsand labour, health, and safety laws.
The Conservative Party of Canada isworking against Canadian workers, to theadvantage of corporations, Canadian andforeign. Our standard of living is eroding asthe costs of living skyrocket.

Dear Editor,A community shuttle bus
drives by my home on RiverRoad every seven and a halfminutes. Nine times out often, the buses are empty orhave one person aboard.
What a joke for TransLinkto cry about financial short-falls and not having moneyfor future projects! Theiroperations in such a waythat would bankrupt a pri-vate company. No wonderthey are going broke.
If someone wanted tocatch a bus in this area, all one would need to dois walk one block northto Lougheed Highway andcatch it there.
I can only imaginethe cost – in fuel, maintenance, andwages – of runningthese buses up anddown this road.If this was a pri-vately run company, you can bet theseunnecessary wasteswould not be happening.
I am also surprised thatthe District of Maple Ridgewould allow an oversize/weight commercial tour-ing bus, well over 5,000GVW, called the WestcoastExpress, to travel down thisunsafe road. The Districthas spent millions of taxdollars on the road after a
geological reportstated the area isa potential slideescarpment zone.
The Districtlast year installeddrainage pipingfrom Darby Streetto Carshill to helpdrain off excess
rain water and making thearea a little more stable, which cost $3-plus million.
After hearing about thelandslide that just happenednorth of Seattle, I am sur-prised the District allowstransit to continue to poundthe pavement with theseoversize vehicles.
TransLink needs to findfunding within, by cuttingunneeded bus routes andcharging the users. Transitusers need to suck it up andpay for the service. Transitusers don’t help pay myvehicle insurance, gas, ormaintenance, because theydon’t use a vehicle, just as Idon’t use transit.

No democracy with senateDear Editor,
When the senate does get replaced with an elected senate(I am not holding my breath) Canada will be much moredemocratic. It is not democratic when the preponderance ofa heavy-handed parliament does more or less as it wishes.

SHAMROCK OPEN
Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows Times Thursday, April 11, 2013 A11
First in a three-part series looking atthe impact of local food on the peopleand economy of Maple Ridge and PittMeadows. The businesses and people fea-tured in the articles will also appear at theCheers to the Planet eco-gala April 27, anevent hosted by the CEED Centre Society.
We don’t often think of chefsas revolutionaries, but BigFeast Bistro and other fine-dining restaurants with a
focus on local food may be profoundlychanging our regional economyby direct sourcing.
“Will it support our commun-ity?” asks Stacey Mulcahy, thevisionary half of the Big Feastduo, when she and chef MikeMulcahy make decisions for theirthree-year-old restaurant andcatering business.
They recently learned that they’re beingnominated as local food heroes by a popu-lar Vancouver magazine.
By choosing locally sourced food overconventionally distributed products, Mikeand fellow chefs are creating new oppor-tunities for local producers that have animpact far beyond direct purchase prices.
As a topic, local food has enjoyed ameteoric rise in popularity with the emer-
gence of the 100 Mile Diet, a resurgence offarmers markets, and visits by Americanfood superstars, such as author MichaelPollan, polyculture farmer Joel Salatin, and urban farmer Will Allen. All threeheadlined major events in Vancouver.
Even local governments are getting intothe act. Under its newly minted agricul-tural plan, Maple Ridge council is support-ing a three-year study into the creationof a bio-regional food system led in partby Kent Mullinex, director of SustainableAgriculture and Food Security at KwantlenPolytechnic University.
This is the aspect of the local foodmovement that might have the most last-ing impact on the Maple Ridge economy.
Most of our farms are small, just theright size for intensive market gardensaimed at the food services industry.
Big Feast’s Mike has very practical rea-sons for designing his menus around localfood: “I wanted to live and work locally, creating better food options while support-ing our backyard.”
But their focus on values andcommunity rather than quantityand low-cost inputs has the poten-tial to have a profound impacton the local economy by show-ing young entrants how they canmake a good living and lifestylewithout compromising ideals.
On Saturday, April 27, the CEED CentreSociety is bringing 25 restaurants, winer-ies, and breweries with a focus on local, organic, and sustainable practices togetherin one room at its eco-gala, Cheers to thePlanet: Eat, Drink and be Eco.
You can meet the chefs, farmers, vint-ners, and breweries that are putting localfood on the map. Tickets are $45 at www.ceedcentre.ca.• Full column: www.mrtimes.com, search “Mulcahy”

Not long ago, if some-one had told you thatselected Americanstates were going to
legalize the enjoyment of mari-juana, you would have wonderedwhat they had been smoking.
It’s all going to pot.Suddenly the language is chan-
ging to reflect this new reality.Words that used to mean onething, now mean something verydifferent.
Take potash for example, would you have thought it was aflaky substance a cannabis loverbrushes from his coat?
The innocent potato hasbecome today’s widely acceptedjoystick and good old poteen ismore potent than ever before.
A pot boy works in a tavernwashing glasses and serving cus-tomers; but not for much longer.
And do you remember when apot boiler was a work of litera-ture or music produced merely tomake a living? That was then.
But, surprisingly, the apoth-ecary, who used to prescribe andsell drugs, will be doing just thatin the future.
I wondered for a while how thepot got into the hippopotamusuntil I learned that it eats plants, stays under water, and lives by ariver – Greek for river – potamus:nothing to do with hemp, thoughsmokers may go with the flow.
It is only recently that experts
have described pot belly as acondition caused by taking in toomuch air with the bud, and thatbeing pot bound is the result ofregularly smoking without eatingyour veggies.
The dictionary definition ofa pot herb is enough to raise asmile on the strictest magistrate:“Any plant whose leaves andstems are boiled as a vegetable, such as spinach. Any plant usedas seasoning in cooking.”
“No, your honour, I wasn’tingesting it, I was just boiling itto spice up the burgers for thebarbecue.”
While we wait for B.C. to getits act together, we had betterbe careful when we invite a fewfriends round for potluck.
Guests are invited to contributewhatever is available. The pot
roast and pot pie they bring maybe different dishes from expected.
Pot bound, once an innocentbotanical term now means some-one who may be headed to ahash stash – a pot hunter. Orcould he be looking for the lux-urious silver-white potassium?
In order to have enough moneyto support the regular use of theweed we grow so well in theLower Mainland, we may needto budget.
As B.C. bud is considered thebest, it is likely that the samepeople who add misery to ourlives by heavily taxing beer, wine, spirits, and tobacco, willnot miss this opportunity tobenefit from what they considerhuman weakness. Watch for theintroduction of a new pot tax.
As the number of people
requesting the easy availability ofpot increases and they see them-selves as comrades in arms fight-ing against an oppressive regime, there will come to pass what willbe known as the Buddy system.
B.C. Buddies will be strongin their desire for change.Government despots may try tonip it in the bud but the potentpotters will refuse to budge.
As I write this I am hopingthere is no truth to the rumourthat the now legal pot producersbelow the border are export-ing a new product called WiserBud. This remarkable substanceis reported to aid in the clearingof fuzzy thinking and to allowthe user to understand and solveproblems at a higher level thanever before.
The more bud, the wiser.
Passion for prose
Language-wise, everything appears to be going to pot

With a recurring theme ofwater, this week’s TIMESTravellers had some fun in
the sun – and around wavesrecently. For instance Maple
Ridge’s Don Lekei and hiswife Helen Homer took a
cruise through the PanamaCanal. They had this picture
taken holding a copy of theirhometown newspaper, The
TIMES, about 20 kilometresoff the coast of Mexico. In the
meantime, staff and familyfrom Blue Mountain Elementary
spent time snorkelling atLanai during a recent getaway
to Maui. While visiting theHawaiian islands, they too had
this group picture taken holdinga copy of The TIMES.

Pacific Stormmember andMaple Ridge
resident GiordanoMarconato tried
a shot on goal inwater polo action.
Marconato, 17,has come a long
way since hisearly days playing
water polo.
A 17-year-old Maple Ridgeresident is a 51-goal scorerwith the Pacific Storm.by Troy [email protected]
Giordano Marconato reflected onthe first time he tried water polo ateight years of age.
“I was almost drowning.”This somewhat frightening
experience didn’t discourage thenow 17-year-old Maple Ridge resi-dent from carrying on.
Good thing he did.It didn’t take long for Giordano
to find his rhythm in the demand-ing sport, first with the HaneyNeptunes and Fraser Valley WaterPolo Club, then with the U18Pacific Storm.
Water polo has allowed theOlympic hopeful and GaribaldiSecondary Grade 11 student totravel across Canada with hisStorm teammates to play in theNational Development PremierLeague (NDPL) against the CalgaryTorpedoes, Team Saskatchewan, amixed team of Ottawa Titans and
Montreal’s CAMO Water Polo Clubknown as the Camo Titans, andthe York Mavericks from Toronto.
It was also his ticket for a two-year stay in Rome, Italy, where heplayed for SS Lazio on both theU15 and U17 teams in 2009/10and 2010/11.
Fast forward to this year, andfrom April 18 to 21, Giordano isheading to Calgary in his bid tobecome a three-time nationalchampion at theU18 national clubchampionship, which will draw 12teams from acrossthe country.
A little furtherdown the road,he’ll be competing in his first inter-national tournament, the JuniorPan Am Games, in Argentina thissummer.
“It seems like only yesterdaywhen he said he wanted to playthis odd sport and go to theOlympics at the age of eight,” hisdad Anthony said. “Wow, howtime flies.”
In the NDPL Giordano finishedsecond in goal-scoring in all of
Canada, with 51 goals, one behindhis Pacific Storm teammate SeanSpooner.
He found his scoring touchafter a “lull,” his dad Anthonyexplained.
“He started playing more defen-sively,” the elder Marconato said.“There’s a position called holecheck where the biggest, mostaggressive player parks himself in
front of the net, likethe slot in hockey, and for a coupleyears when he wasItaly that was his solejob… to take care ofthe biggest guy on theother team.”
During his two-yearstay in Italy, Giordano
adjusted as well as he could to lifein and out of the water.
“It was exciting,” he said.“It was different being in a dif-
ferent country, playing, and then Ilearned the language, too.”
Anthony said it took eightmonths of prep work to make hisson’s move to Italy a reality.
The idea took shape becauseGiordano was about to leave thesport at the age of 12 because he
felt wasn’t getting challenged atthe time.
“He was a bit bored, and wasactually thinking about hanging upthe Speedo,” Anthony said. “ThenI said, ‘well, if you think you’rethat good, let’s see if we can getyou to Europe.’”
Giordano tried out for threeteams, ended up making all ofthem, then chose to go with SSLazio.
“The first year, they qualified forfinals but we couldn’t leave himthere any longer, he had to comeback and they lost every game inthe final by one goal,” he said.
In his second year with SS Lazio, the team surged to the final butlost to Naples.
“Their league is a lot betterbecause there is just so manymore teams there,” Giordano said.
Now back in Canada, back to,as he describes it, “everything Iknow,” Giordano is targeting goingto the University of Calgary oncehe graduates from Garibaldi.
In Calgary, he plans on study-ing anesthesiology after his four-year undergraduate degree, all thewhile continuing to play waterpolo with the national program.
