REAL ESTATE WEEKLY MAPLE RIDGE PITT MEADOWS FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2015 info@rew.ca 604-435-7977 M ay is the perfect time to add pizzazz to your home’s exterior. So, get those working clothes on, grab a brush, some outdoor paint (or head to your nearest hardware store for your supplies) and get ready to revive your home’s curb appeal. Even if you’re not selling up, it’s important to keep up your home’s exterior so that it doesn’t decay and maintains the neigh- bourhood aesthetic. REW spoke to Sarah Gallop, award-win- ning designer at Sarah Gallop Design Inc., to glean some expert advice on how to spruce up your home’s exterior. She says there are numerous ways to boost your curb appeal without breaking the bank. It just might require a little elbow grease… Keep Things Tidy and Trim Year-Round The easiest, least expensive way to keep your home looking good is keeping things tidy and clean year-round, so that it doesn’t get dishevelled or overgrown. So trim the hedges, edge your grass, tidy up your pathways if they have weeds, add some decorative flower pots, and then maintain it on a regular basis going forward. A Little Paint Can Go a Long Way It’s truly amazing what a little paint can accomplish – it can brighten, revive and give new life to your home’s exte- rior. Take a long look at your house: Is the paint chipping, cracking or simply looking dull and tired? Gallop’s quick to add that painting doesn’t have to mean the whole house; it could be a new front door colour, the trim, shutters or some accents that fit the architectural style of your home. Light Your Way to an Elegant Entrance Lighting is a great way to add some impact. This could be in the form of landscape lighting on a pathway or high- lighting some trees. It could also be architectural lighting on your home (soffit lighting, new sconces and/or up lighting architectural features). Flowers and Plants Add Colour and Beauty Who doesn’t appreciate Mother Nature’s blooms? Adding planter boxes with lots of gorgeous flowers can add interest quite easily. Planter pots can also add appeal at an entry as they can frame the doorway with foliage which adds beauty and texture. Improving your Home’s Siding Combining materials to highlight your home’s architectural features are ways to enhance your exterior’s overall look. If you have a heritage home, you can purchase tongue-and-groove planks to draw attention and add character to your entryway. “This also gives you the opportunity to change colours and highlight different areas,” adds Gallop. Create a More Appealing Garage Let’s face it; many of our garage doors lack personality or any aesthetic charm whatsoever. We typically think of our garage as simply a place to store our vehicles, bikes and our stuff. Why not replace the garage door with a more attractive option? There are great garage door designs available so an upgrade here has endless possibilities. Be sure to choose something that fits well with the style of your home, says Gallop. Don’t Forget Your Backyard There is a multitude of ways to reener- gize your backyard oasis. If your outdoor furniture is drab, tired looking or plain old, new furniture will instantaneously refresh your outdoor space. As in the front yard, Gallop says paint or staining the deck surface, and/or power washing and cleaning the patio goes a long way. Again, adding planters with bright colour- ful flowers always helps. “Creating little ‘destination’ vignettes with seating areas can add a lot of interest, and creates spaces of the yard that can be enjoyed for different purposes and in different times of the day,” she adds. May is the perfect time to add pizzazz to your home’s exterior. So, get those working clothes on, grab a brush, some outdoor

paint (or head to your nearest hardware store for your supplies) and get ready to revive your home’s curb appeal. Even if you’re not selling up, it’s important to keep up your home’s exterior so that it doesn’t decay and maintains the neigh-bourhood aesthetic.

REW spoke to Sarah Gallop, award-win-ning designer at Sarah Gallop Design Inc., to glean some expert advice on how to spruce up your home’s exterior. She says there are numerous ways to boost your curb appeal without breaking the bank. It just might require a little elbow grease…

Keep Things Tidy and Trim Year-RoundThe easiest, least expensive way to

keep your home looking good is keeping things tidy and clean year-round, so that it doesn’t get dishevelled or overgrown. So trim the hedges, edge your grass, tidy up your pathways if they have weeds, add some decorative fl ower pots, and then maintain it on a regular basis going forward.

A Little Paint Can Go a Long WayIt’s truly amazing what a little paint

can accomplish – it can brighten, revive and give new life to your home’s exte-rior. Take a long look at your house: Is the paint chipping, cracking or simply looking dull and tired? Gallop’s quick to add that painting doesn’t have to mean the whole house; it could be a new front door colour, the trim, shutters or some accents that fi t the architectural style of your home.

Light Your Way to an Elegant EntranceLighting is a great way to add some

impact. This could be in the form of landscape lighting on a pathway or high-lighting some trees. It could also be architectural lighting on your home (soffi t lighting, new sconces and/or up lighting architectural features).

Flowers and Plants Add Colour and Beauty

Who doesn’t appreciate Mother Nature’s blooms? Adding planter boxes with lots of gorgeous fl owers can add interest quite easily. Planter pots can also add appeal at an entry as they can frame the doorway with foliage which adds beauty and texture.

Improving your Home’s SidingCombining materials to highlight your

home’s architectural features are ways to enhance your exterior’s overall look. If you have a heritage home, you can purchase tongue-and-groove planks to draw attention and add character to your entryway.

“This also gives you the opportunity to change colours and highlight diff erent areas,” adds Gallop.

Create a More Appealing GarageLet’s face it; many of our garage doors

lack personality or any aesthetic charm

whatsoever. We typically think of our garage as simply a place to store our vehicles, bikes and our stuff . Why not replace the garage door with a more attractive option? There are great garage door designs available so an upgrade here has endless possibilities. Be sure to choose something that fi ts well with the style of your home, says Gallop.

Don’t Forget Your BackyardThere is a multitude of ways to reener-

gize your backyard oasis. If your outdoor furniture is drab, tired looking or plain old, new furniture will instantaneously refresh your outdoor space. As in the front yard, Gallop says paint or staining the deck surface, and/or power washing and cleaning the patio goes a long way. Again, adding planters with bright colour-ful fl owers always helps. “Creating little ‘destination’ vignettes with seating areas can add a lot of interest, and creates spaces of the yard that can be enjoyed for diff erent purposes and in diff erent times of the day,” she adds.

If you have ever entertained the thought of buying a spectacular fami-ly-size home in Morgan Heights, now

is the time to do it.In the heart of South Surrey, in an

exquisite master planned community which off ers a unique blend of urban appeal and rural charm, Sakura is a collection of just 75 four bedroom town-homes, starting in the low $500’s.

“These homes are what South Surrey has been waiting for,” says Carly Willey, sales manager. “This is unprecedented for this neighbourhood because all of the townhomes are designed similar to single family homes and all feature four bedrooms.”

You aren’t just buying a home; you are buying into a lifestyle.

You are minutes away from White Rock, with its spectacular sandy beaches, fi ne dining, prized golf courses and its famous promenade seaside boardwalk. In addition, you are within easy access to Richmond, Vancouver and the U.S. border.

Morgan Heights is also home to the Shops at Morgan Crossing, which is the shopping centre of choice for homeown-ers. This upscale shopping centre boasts chic urban shops and boutiques as well as restaurants - ideal for people watching and for meeting good friends over a cup of artisan java.

“There will be a greenway connecting your new home to Morgan Crossing,” says Carly. “You are also within a block from Sunnyside Elementary and Southridge private school.”

Sakura’s sleek, open contemporary homes, ranging from 1,846 to 2,231 square feet, boasts 20-foot ceilings with chandeliers in the entry, fi replaces and

sophisticated wide plank laminate fl oor-ing. The gourmet kitchens with large islands, quartz countertops and stainless steel appliances will inspire the chef in you and the elegantly appointed bath-rooms possess dual sinks and stunning fi nishes throughout.

The charming mid-century style archi-tecture of the two and three level exteri-ors showcase oversize windows, elegant wood overhangs, stonework, fully land-scaped yards and private large patios and/or decks with gas hook ups.

“Many homes will have great views of the North Shore Mountains,” adds Carly.

Sakura will also feature an amenity-fi lled Clubhouse. It will captivate you from the moment you enter – on the main level will be a fi tness centre and yoga area, while the upper fl oor will reveal a fully equipped kitchen and lounge. Whether you are in the mood to simply relax with a good read or want to social-ize with your neighbours and friends, the

Clubhouse will be the place to be.Building on a tradition for excellence in

superior construction, CastleHill Homes is one of the province’s most respected and trusted builders. With more than four decades in the industry, CastleHill has developed a reputation for quality, inno-vative homes in neighourboods people want to live in.

Luxury living at its best: that’s what you get when you buy in Sakura.

blends life and style
