Welcome to the Maple Leaf Charolais and Guests Bull Sale. This year the number of bulls we have to offer has decreased once again, but the quality has not. Our operation is continuing to downsize due to health reasons, and the hands-on portion of our “farming” is now substantially less than it was. We are proud to be partnering another year with Norway Valley Farms, Ross Lake Charolais and Southside Charolais in bringing you this sale, chalked full of exceptional, well-built boys that will add quality attributes and natural gains in any herd. They are mild-mannered and of top-notch bloodlines.We continue to rely on the good folks that have graciously accepted the task of helping us provide a few more years of sale entries. Words cannot express how grateful we are for the sacrifices they’ve made to make this possible for us. The bulls are being fed and well cared for again this year at Norway Valley Farms, and if you call us, or Arden and Tami Barstad, viewing prior to the sale will gladly be accommodated.There is a chance that you will see the Maple Leaf name continuing to participate in the Charolais industry as well as in other areas…We are assisting our daughter and her husband (Jisteen and Carl Whiting), to get footing in the business of cattle, and they are planning a number of other endeavours that will have their little farm quite busy in the future. We are back into the bull buying season and this is the 17th Annual Maple Leaf Charolais and Guests Bull Sale. Tom and Carey Stewart, of Maple Leaf Charolais; along with the Barstad family, of Norway Valley Farms; Byron and Linda Wilkie, of Ross Lake Charolais, and Ken and Kathy Rose, of Southside Charolais, once again welcome you to their sale. This year if you would prefer, you are welcome to view the bulls on their farms or come to the Calnash Centre the day before the sale or sale day to see what a solid offering they have put forth. Bidding is available online with DLMS for your convenience as well.

This is the largest offering of Full French and French Influence genetics you will find in Canada. There is a good selection of two-year old bulls, along with some bulls down to yearlings, that will get out and get the job done. There are again polled, French bulls offered as well, if you are looking for that.These operations have also made calving ease and docility a priority in their programs. There are many half brothers that will give you the uniformity that is so desired when selling your calves. This truly is a solid offering with bulls to suit any operation and with the number of repeat customers that keep coming back, you know the bulls are working. 2020 has been an interesting year to say the least. Crops and grass were good in most areas, with harvest being completed. We are very fortunate to be in agriculture being out in country, as things carried on as normal, and we didn’t have to isolate from everything and wear masks .I would like to thank Tom and Carey once again, for helping us get started in the Charolais industry and allowing us to market our bulls in their sale.We have built a small herd of Charolais through selecting picks from the share agreement we had with Maple Leaf. ross laKe CharolaisA big thanks to Tom and Carey for having us a part of the sale again.Well another year has came and gone. What a year it turned out to be! Here’s hoping for a considerably less chaotic 2021. With vaccines in production, things are going to start moving again and will work their way back to normal in time. 2020 was an exciting year for our family, as our daughter Meghan was married to Tyson Beebe in February in Punta Cana. We were all there for the wedding and a tropical holiday just prior to the Covid situation taking front stage. We were also blessed with the news that our grandson Briar is going to become a big brother this February. Our daughter

Kayla and husband Jerad are expecting a second boy. Can’t wait to see that little fella. Linda has stayed super busy at her job in town and can’t quit smiling around that grandson. Our little boy, Cade, is no longer a little boy. He just turned 16 in January. He’s had a roller coaster year with a broken collar bone last March, followed by a couple nights in the hospital waiting for surgery, then school and hockey started only to be shutdown again. He was back to school again today(January 11). Hopefully that carries through until summer.We have a strong offering of yearlings this year with several brothers that will produce the consistency that the buyers and feeders thrive on. The calves are all raised and kept at home where they are fed a balanced ration of tame hay and a soy based pellet from Country Junction Feeds. The calves are not pushed, but fed for balanced growth and longevity. The French genetics provide the easy fleshing and great feed conversion that you see in the calves. The 6D and 45D sons are quite similar in conformation. They have long spines, a solid foot, great hair, and a powerful hind quarter. We only have a couple calves from the Roger Maloney 30E bull as he was injured in his first breeding season. These calves are a little more of a moderate structure, but extremely correct. The yearling bulls will all be sold as guaranteed breeders.We also have a nice line up of coming two-year old bulls. These guys were backrounded as yearlings, grassed through the summer, and brought to the yard late this fall. They are on the same soy pellet ration and free choice hay the yearlings are on. These boys are that much older and will get out and cover some country if needed. There are several brothers from the MLCC 268D bull. This guy is a smooth made, sound footed bull with a great disposition. All the bulls come from proven sires that calve easy, have sound feet, great confirmation and vigour, along with loads of hair and meat. southsiDe CharolaisWe are pleased to once again join the Stewart, Wilkie and Barstad families for the Maple Leaf Bull Sale. In spite of the pandemic, life on the farm has continued pretty much as usual. This summer we were able to flush two Full French, homozygous polled cows, so are looking forward to transplanting some embryos this year. We had lots of rain so there was plenty of grass and we have a surplus of hay. The cows are wintering easily! We are thankful to live where we do!

We appreciate our past buyers and look forward to seeing everyone again.

terMs & ConDitionstermS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in canadian funds. all settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

bidding: each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

diSputeS: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

announcementS: announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

purchaSer’S riSK: each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. all animals left with the seller must be insured.

certificate of regiStration: each animal will carry papers issued by the canadian charolais association. a certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

deliVery: assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

breeder guarantee: should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. no guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

exception guarantee: In the case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

accidentS: although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

Sale manager: By livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller.
