    WHERE TO USE

Basalt fibre reinforcement used in combinationwith Planitop HDM(two-component, high-ductilitycementitious smoothing compound),Planitop HDM Maxi(two-component, high-ductilitycementitious mortar) or Planitop HDM Restauro(two-component, high-ductility lime and eco-pozzolanmortar) for structural strengthening of concrete andmasonry elements to improve their strength and thedistribution of strain induced by mechanical stress.

    Some application examples

Structural strengthening of internal and/or externalfaces of masonry facing walls.

Reinforced strengthening for a more even distributionof stress induced by seismic activity on concrete andmasonry elements.

    TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Mapegrid B 250is a special alkali-resistant meshmade from basalt fibres which, thanks to its specialweave, increases the strength and ductility of masonryand distributes stresses more evenly. As a result, ifthere are movements in the structure, the system hasthe capacity to distribute the strains over the entiresurface of the elements strengthened with the mesh sothat any cracks which develop form in both the mortarjoint and the stone, brick or tuff substrate at the same

time. The system bonds perfectly to the substrate withsuch a strong hold that local stresses provoke failurewithin the substrate itself rather than at the substrate-strengthening interface.

Also, less energy is required to manufactureMapegrid B 250so there is a lower impact on theenvironment due to the lower levels of CO2given off.

    ADVANTAGES

    Excellent tensile strength.

High resistance to vibrations and dynamicmovements.

Unalterable and resistant to the chemical aggressionof cement.

    Resistant to atmospheric agents.

    High dimensional stability.

    Does not rust.

    Light and easy to handle.

Easy to cut and adapt to the shape of the substrate.

    Wear resistant.

Limited level of CO2given off into the environmentduring the manufacturing process.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Preparation of the substrateThe surface on which Mapegrid B 250is to be appliedmust be prepared correctly. All render must be removedmechanically or manually. This operation must be

    Alkali-resistant, primed basalt fibre mesh

carried out down to the surface of theunderlying wall. While removing the render,if new stones and/or bricks are required tofill large holes in the wall, use material withthe most similar physical characteristics as

the material originally used to build the wall.Remove all loose material and dust and washthe structure with water. Then wet the structure to be strengthenedwith water. Any excess water must be leftto evaporate off so that the masonry to berepaired is saturated with water, but with adry surface (saturated surface dry state).Compressed air may be used to speedup this process. If epoxy resin from theMapeWraprange is applied the surfacemust be dry.

    Application procedure for

Mapegrid B 250 with an inorganicmatrix (FRG)

    1. Prepare the Planitop HDM,PlanitopHDM Maxior Planitop HDM Restauro(see relative Technical Data Sheet).

2.Apply an even layer 4-6 mm thick ofPlanitop HDM, Planitop HDM Maxi orPlanitop HDM Restaurowith a flat metaltrowel.

    3. While the product is still fresh, insert theMapegrid B 250and carefully press it inwith a flat trowel so that it bonds perfectlywith the mortar.

4.Apply a second even layer 2-3 mm thickof Planitop HDM, Planitop HDM MaxiorPlanitop HDM Restauroso that itcompletely covers the mesh.

    matrix (FRP)

Application procedure for Mapegrid B 250using the dry system.

Application phases1. Prepare the MapeWrap Primer 1.2. Apply the MapeWrap Primer 1.3. Prepare the MapeWrap 11or

MapeWrap 12.4. Apply the first layer of MapeWrap 11

or MapeWrap 12.5. Lay the Mapegrid B 250mesh.6. Apply the second layer of MapeWrap 11.

    1. Preparation of MapeWrap Primer 1

The two components which make upMapeWrap Primer 1must be mixedtogether. Pour component B into component

A and mix with a low-speed drill with a mixingattachment until the resin is completelyblended. Mixing ratio: 3 parts in weightof component A and 1 part in weight ofcomponent B. To avoid dosage errors, usethe entire contents of the two components. If only partial quantities are required, usehigh-precision electronic scales to weigh outthe components (this procedure may alsobe adopted for the other products).Once prepared, the workability time ofMapeWrap Primer 1is 90 minutes at +23C.

    2. Application of MapeWrap Primer 1

Apply an even coat of MapeWrap Primer 1with a brush or roller on the clean, dry surfaceof the concrete. If the surface is particularly absorbent, applya second coat of MapeWrap Primer 1once the first coat has been completely

of the impregnated fabric with a MapeWrapRollerto eliminate any air bubbles trapped inthe fabric.

Adjacent sheets of Mapegrid B 250mustbe overlapped by at least 5 cm at all thelongitudinal and transversal joints.

    PACKAGING

Mapegrid B 250is supplied in 100 cm wideby 50 m long rolls packed in cardboardboxes.

    STORAGE

Store in a covered dry area.

    PRODUCT FOR PROFESSIONAL USE.

    WARNING

Although the technical details andrecommendations contained in this product

data sheet correspond to the best of ourknowledge and experience, all the above

information must, in every case, be taken asmerely indicative and subject to confirmationafter long-term practical application: for

this reason, anyone who intends to use theproduct must ensure beforehand that it is

suitable for the envisaged application: in

every case, the user alone is fully responsiblefor any consequences deriving from the use

    of the product.

absorbed. Smooth over the surface usingMapeWrap 11or MapeWrap 12while theproduct underneath is still fresh.

    3. Preparation of MapeWrap 11

    or MapeWrap 12

Choose whether to use MapeWrap 11orMapeWrap 12according to the surroundingtemperature and workability times (the

workability time of MapeWrap is higher thanfor MapeWrap 11). Pour component B intocomponent A and mix with a low-speed drillwith a mixing attachment until a uniform, grey blend is obtained. Mixing ratio for bothproducts: 3 parts in weight of component Aand 1 part in weight of component B.At +23C MapeWrap 11is workable foraround 40 minutes after mixing whileMapeWrap 12is workable for around60 minutes.

    4. Apply the first layer of

    MapeWrap 11 or MapeWrap 12

On concrete surfaces which have beenpreviously treated with MapeWrap Primer 1,and while it is still fresh, apply a 1 cm-thicklayer of MapeWrap 11or MapeWrap 12using a notched trowel, then smooth overthe surface using a flat trowel to completelyremove light imperfections on the surface.Using the same product, fill and round offthe corners so they have a radius of at least2 cm.

    5. Installing Mapegrid B 250

While the layer of MapeWrap 11is stillfresh, immediately install Mapegrid B 250

mesh, ensuring there are no creases. After flattening out the mesh carefullyby hand (use protective waterproofrubber gloves) apply a second layer ofMapeWrap 11on the Mapegrid B 250mesh so that it completely covers the meshinstalled previously. Pass over the surface
