Growing Revenue from your debit, credit and ATM portfolio.
uconference13
This year MAP’s Annual Conference is focused on strategies that generate revenue
for credit unions. When examining credit union’s payment portfolio - credit, debit,
prepaid, ATM and even mobile - we see significant opportunities for our clients
to increase revenue in the near to short-term. Credit card
transaction volume is expected to grow 9 to 10 percent annually
over the next couple of years, while debit continues to outpace
all other payment forms, and prepaid usage is the fastest
growing payment form in the market. It’s truly an exciting
time. To capture this energy, we have adopted the “racing”
analogy as part of our “Making Payments Pay” theme. Just
imagine each payment segment as a Grand Prix Race Car -
“credit” speeding along at a record clip, with “debit” outpacing
it by a length, and “prepaid” lapping them both. If you are ready for an exhilarating
ride, we have developed a networking and educational program that will both challenge
and invigorate you to return to your credit union with genuine tools for success. This
year, we will again provide for a full day of networking on Thursday, with several
different activities available for clients and partners to participate.
On Friday, the Conference Program will include expert insights with hands-on activites
to learn about how to make your credit union’s pay real returns for your institution
and members. On behalf of the MAP Team, I want to welcome you to participate in
both days of the Users’ Conference. It is sure to be a fun and valuable experience. I
look forward to seeing you there, and, as always, I am available to answer any questions
you might have. Feel free to call me, 1-866-598-0698, ext 1610 or email me at cyndie.

MAP is once again pleased to offer a full day for networking with your credit union colleagues. Thursday begins with time to explore The Bellevue Collection followed by lunch at The Westin Bellevue. After lunch MAP host sponsored activities for golf and speciality tours of the area.
MAP hosts a small conference each year for credit unions where we bring together industry experts to meet in a relaxed setting for learning and exploring what is happening in the payments industry and how this will impact our members.
LunCh ProgrAMIn 2013, MAP will launch its much anticipated chip enabled TRAVEL PREPAID Visa Card. As many card managers can attest, member traveling overseas often encounter difficulty when making credit card purchases with magstripe cards because merchants, especially outside of tourist hubs, are often only equipped to serve EVM chip cards. This is especially true for members traveling to western Europe, which includes popular destinations like England, France, Italy, Spain and Germany.
The help us gain a better understanding of the payment and security challenges members face traveling abroad, we welcome guest speaker from Rick Steves’ Europe and Travel with Rick Steves. Who better to help us than an expert from Stevess team of independent travel advocates whose books and media deal with travel mainly in Europe. Steves and his team of travel guides are know for encouraging readers and viewers to visit not just major cities but also cozy villages away from popular tourist routes.
We will have access to Steves’ decades of travel experience. For example, “ Leave the traveler’s checks at home. I cashed my last traveler’s check long ago. They’re a waste of time (long lines at slow banks) and money (fees to get them, fees to cash them). ATMs are the way to go.”
Also, “Avoid (or at least minimize) cash exchange. You lose money each time you change it. On average, you lose 8 percent when you change dollars to euros or other foreign currency. When you use currency exchange booths such as Forex or Travelex at the airport, you lose around 15 percent.”
Finally, “Don’t buy foreign currency in advance. Some tourists just have to have euros or pounds in their pockets when they step off the airplane, but smart travelers don’t bother and know better than to get lousy stateside exchange rates. Wait until you arrive at your destination; I’ve never been to an airport in Europe that didn’t have plenty of ATMs.”

Out of town visitors and locals alike will be enthralled by the Tours from the Concierge’s Choice of Northwest Sights. Attendees can choose from 3 very different but very Northwest adventures of the Seattle area.
Concierge’s Choice of northwest Sights –
Signature Northwest Wine Tasting Tour - Come enjoy a memorable tour in the beautiful Sam-mamish River Valley. Woodinville Wine Country is home to over 100 wineries and tasting rooms representing every appellation in Washington. The winemakers will host you on a tour of the Northwest’s finest wineries, tasting rooms and, of course, celebrated wines. Nearly all of the Wood-inville wineries grow their grapes in the warm, arid climate of Eastern Washington’s Columbia Valley where vineyards boast sandy, gravelly soils providing an ideal medium to plant vines. Columbia Valley vineyard temperatures consistently hover in the mid-80’s during the summer. Come fall, warm days and cool nights protect the grapes natural acidity and ripen the fruit to perfection.
White Mustache Urban Adventure Tour - Believing that we could show off our city in a more authentic and tasty way if we’d abandon the sponsored sample trays and long walks, White Mustache has re-invented the act of eating, redefined the concept of a food tour, and flat pulled down the pants of our fair city. For those brave enough to venture out and explore the 100 plus neighborhoods, few cities offer a more diverse, unique, flavorful, bountiful, and delicious gastronomical play land. With this in mind, and in full appreciation of others who have come before, White Moustache Urban Adventure Co. invites you the first “eating tour on wheels.”
The Authentic Northwest Eco-Tour - A fun, educational and informative Northwest experience leads you around the city following our “Emerald Necklace” of city parks, woodlands, neighborhoods, locks, college campuses and shorelines. You will have the opportunity to spot for Pacific Northwest birds and wildlife, including expert interpretation of local and natural history, culture, geology, urban ecosystems. Take in the historical Pioneer Square area of old Seattle, learn of the Great Seattle Fire, the Klondike Gold Rush and hear the history of the Space Needle, Smith Tower, Pike Place Market, catch a glimpse of the Olympic Sculpture Park, a nine-acre open and vibrant green space for art!

Golf Club at Newcastle – Coal Creek Signature Course
Stunning city and mountain views frame The Golf Club at Newcastle’s signature course, Coal Creek. These jaw-dropping vistas serve only to enhance this Robert E. Cupp/Fred Couples-designed course, which plays over 7,000 yards and features 300 feet in eleva-tion change. On-course amenities include Turnberry’s Golfer’s Grill, comfort stations, complimentary coffee and more.
Few courses offer views as stunning as those found at The Golf Club at Newcastle. Even more memorable is the course itself. Designed by renowned golf course architect Robert E. Cupp in consultation with Masters Champion Fred Couples, the facility combines characteristics of some of the game’s legendary courses with innovative practices to pro-vide an exceptional playing experience round after round.
From the cobblestone entrance to the majestic 44,000 square foot clubhouse, golfers will be treated to breathtaking scenery, well-conditioned greens, and first-class amenities, all designed for the utmost comfort and enjoyment of our guests. Like the world’s highly acclaimed courses, the Coal Creek course offers a true test for players of all abilities. Stretching 7,024 yards from the back tees, it features five par 3’s, eight par 4’s and five par 5’s.
The opening hole (shown above), at 621 yards, is nothing short of captivating. Beyond the creek that meanders across the fairway are ever-chang-ing city skylines. Throughout the course, golfers will want to pause to enjoy the panoramic views as they realize the aesthetic framing of each
and every hole. At #18 - a beautiful finishing hole - the magnificent clubhouse beckons. Whether visiting for the first time or returning for a special occasion or just a regular outing, we welcome you and wish you a most enjoyable experience at The Golf Club at Newcastle.

Hold on to your pins! It’s time to start forming your Bowling Team for the MAP first annual bowling tournament.
Join us at Lucky Strike at The Bellevue Collection (next door to the Westin) for a night of fun and networking. Lucky Strike is the perfect venue for meeting and “getting to know” fellow credit union professionals in a relaxed environment. You will be our guests at Lucky Strike’s exclusive Luxe Private Lounge with 4 state-of-the-art bowl-ing lanes and a hosted bar for select-Northwest beer and wines. Dinner is an inventive menu of casual cuisine in a unique space that combines vintage elements with modern, artistic decor, lit up in colorful lights and highlighted by a 20ft by 12ft HD projection screen featuring movies and special attractions. With a full arcade, live DJs, 10 plasma screen TVs and 16 high-resolution projec-tor screens, Lucky Strike is the perfect combo of space and activities for our event.
Forming a TEAMTeams can consist of up to 4 members (and one alternate). Start recruiting now because you need to come up with a Name. The Name is the most important part of bowling. Not since the Johnson Administration has anyone really cared about scores, averages or knowing the rules. But a cool Name matters. Also, once you have a Name, MAP can order you TEAM shirts or hats (you choose). Speak with each member of your bowling team to determine their size and color. Matching colors and a snazzy team logo are invaluable to ensuring everyone is having fun. If you want to be a team captain or leader, let us know - this will be your opportunity to be bossy and snicker as other people throw gutter balls. We will hold orientations the night of play to reinforce this information . . . and share what rules as we remember them. Also, there are fantastic prizes - including money, jewelry, and more (21 and over).

Managing by Missions: Metrics for Driving Successful Card Programs
Dr. Neil Goldman - Goldman Consulting Services
Principle: “You can’t manage what you don’t measure”
Management by Missions (MBM) is based on the idea of distributing the corporate mission to all levels of the organi-zation. Each mission shares in the higher-level mission, so that ultimately everyone has a stake in the corporate mis-sion. Through the use of management tools such as shared missions, mission scorecards, interdependency matrixes, and mission-linked objectives, employees (that are many times siloed by departments or job function) develop a strong sense of owner-ship that fosters their alignment with the organization and the cooperation at different levels. As Jim Collins, author of “Built to Last” and “Good to Great”, discovered in his research of enduring companies, one factor that all the highest-performing organizations had in common was a characteristic type of leadership that created or reinforced the orga-nization’s mission.
Working with product experts for Visa and MAP, Dr. Goldman will explain how the management tools available for our clients (Scorecard Benchmarking, PAU Modeling, Interchange Analysis, and Portfolio Analytics) can be used to foster organizational mission, allignment and cooperation in client credit unions.
Dr. Goldman’s research expertise stems from two decades of theoretical and applied work in organizational leadership, having worked directly with hundreds of credit union execu-tives and boards. Neil is currently CEO/Senior Partner for GCS and former President of Member Research. He holds a doctorate degree in organizational leadership as well as an MBA from Pepperdine University.
