May 2015 Pinnacle Peak Park The trail from the parking area on the north side of the park is named for Cal Magnusson, a long-time Cascade mountaineer who worked at REI for 25 years with famed mountain climber Jim Whittaker. A recent acquisition of 83 acres on the south side of the park provides another access to the peak along gravel roads and even more spectacular views along the way. Area 314 acres Total trail length 2 miles Uses Hiking–steep climb from the north on the Cal Magnusson trail and easier access from the south side. Access Pinnacle Peak is one mile southeast of downtown Enumclaw. From SR-410, head south on 284th Avenue SE. Just past the Enumclaw Fairgrounds, head west on SE 456th Street, then south on 276th Avenue SE. The Cal Magnusson Trailhead is at the corner of 276th Avenue SE and SE 472nd Street, with a small parking lot and road shoulder parking. There is also a southern trailhead along SE Mud Mountain Road at SE 481st Street, with road shoulder parking. King County’s Parks and Recreation Division manages 25,000 acres of parks and natural lands, and provides over 300 miles of trails with year-round accessibility for hiking, mountain biking, trail running and horseback riding. Each trail offers a unique opportunity to walk, run or ride through the quiet beauty of our region’s rich natural heritage. Pinnacle Peak Park is a 314-acre park, surrounding a volcanic cone that rises straight out of the Enumclaw farmlands and towers over the White River. Also known locally as Mount Peak and Mount Pete, Pinnacle Peak is one of the most popular hikes for Enumclaw and South county families. A one-mile-long forested trail climbs 1,000 vertical feet to the top of the 1,800-foot geological knob. Once you get to the top, you will see extruded outcroppings of columnar basalt, concrete footings of an old fire lookout and best of all, spectacular views of Mount Rainier and the White River valley.
