La calabaza amigable

Había una vez, una calabaza que estaba sentada en

un balcόn. El nombre de la

calabaza era Jack y era re-

almente especial porque

podía hablar. Jack estaba

muy cansada de solo cele-

brar Halloween. Quería cele-

brar una fiesta diferente, pe-

ro no sabía cómo. Pronto, la

gente que vivía en la casa

empezó a poner los adornos tenebrosos y el niño que viv-

ía allí le dijo a Jack que Halloween había llegado muy

pronto. Jack todavía quería celebrar una fiesta diferente,

así que en Halloween se puso ropa de Santa Claus y le

dio regalos a los niños. Al principio, los niños tenían mie-

do de Jack porque no habían visto hablar nunca a una ca-

labaza. Ellos le dijeron a Jack que tenía que darles dulces

y no regalos. Jack dijo que

estaba cansado de Hallowe-

The Friendly Pumpkin

Once upon a time, there was a

pumpkin sitting on a porch. The pump-

kins name was Jack and he was a

special pumpkin because he could

talk. Jack was very tired of only cele-

brating Halloween. He wanted to cele-

brate a different holiday, but he didn’t

know how. Soon, the people that lived in the house started

putting up scary decorations and the little boy that lived in

the house told Jack that Halloween was coming. Jack still

wanted to celebrate a different holiday, so on Halloween

he dressed up as Santa Claus and handed out presents to

everyone. At first the kids were scared of Jack because

they had never seen a talking pumpkin before. They told

Jack that he was supposed to be handing out candy, not

presents. The pumpkin said that he was tired of Hallow-

een, so he wanted to pretend it was Christmas. When the

kids opened the presents they were really good, so they

became friends with the friendly pumpkin.

Aventuras Adventures

Por segundo año, continuamos en el intento de producir

diálogo “en grupo”. Esta experiencia nos permite escuchar

las voces de personajes de Worcester que hablan a partir

de una imaginación que conecta dos o más culturas. Los

estudiantes de Woodland Academy y los de Clark Univer-

sity reúnen sus esfuerzos una vez más en la elaboración

de textos que les pertenezcan un poco a todos. La experi-

encia no sólo confirma que aprendemos fuera de las aulas

de clase, sino que la realidad nos ofrece matices que sola-

mente en la interacción podemos descubrir.

For a second year, we continue with our attempt to create

a “group” dialogue. The experience lets us listen to voices

of characters from Worcester who speak inspired by

imaginations connected to two or more cultures. The stu-

dents of Woodland Academy and those of Clark University

join together once again to create texts that may belong

in some little way to everyone. The experience not only

confirms that we learn outside of the classroom but also

that reality offers us nuances that we can discover only

through interaction.

nos decidieron atormentar a otra familia repetidas ve-

ces y ¡todo el ciclo empezó para ellos, aunque ya no

para Anna!

Una historia de fantasmas

Había una vez una familia que vivía en un pequeña de esa

familia. Era muy dulce, pero muy miedosa también porque

sentía que siempre la acosaban los espíritus del mal. Ellos

eran invisibles, pero Anna Bell tenía siempre la impresión de

ver objetos que se movían por sí solos.

Anna Bell gritó una vez de manera espeluzante, lo que hizo

que su madre corriera hacia ella para saber qué le pasaba,

“¡Anna!”… y comenzó a sollozar cuando se le hizo evidente

que Anna estaba poseída por los espíritus extraños. Un

ruido había llegado desde la habitación de la niña. Con sor-

presa, la madre de Anna vio cómo un fantasma cargaba a la

niña y luego la estrellaba contra la pared repetidas veces.

Después de mucho reflexionar, la madre de Anna Bell de-

cidió llamar a un exorcista, el que llegó rápidamente a casa

de la niña. El exorcista rezó una plegaria para conmover a

las extrañas presencias. Afortunadamente, las plegarias

dieron buenos resultados y Anna volvió a ser ella misma

Poco tiempo después, los espíritus regresaron a casa de la

niña y todo volvió a empezar, incluso ella se llegó a asustar

otra vez. Maullaba como un gato techero, al estilo de un

gato de Halloween. Sin motivo aparente, la maligna presen-

cia desapareció un día con órdenes de su jefe de retirarse

muy lejos y nunca más volvió a atormentar a Anna Bell.

“Haunted– A Ghost Story”

Once there was a family who lived in a small town.

There was a young girl in the family named Anna Bell.

She was a sweet girl; however, she was afraid because

evil spirits haunted her. The evil spirits were invisible

and Anna Bell would often see objects that seemed to be

moving on their own.

One day, Anna Bell screamed and her mother rushed

forward to see what the matter was. “Anna!”, she

sobbed. It was clear that Anna was possessed by

strange spirits! A noise came from another room. It was

a ghost who proceeded to grab and push Anna Bell

against the wall! Her mother called exorcists and they

soon arrived. They said a prayer against evil spirits.

Luckily the exorcists’ prayers worked and Anna returned

to her normal self.

Then the spirits returned to the house and did the same

ghost activities! Anna got scared and screeched like a

Halloween cat. An unlikely but fortunate turn of events

occurred. The boss of the mean spirits sent them far

away and they never returned. Anna Bell was finally

freed of them.

Many years passed and the evil spirits came to haunt

another family and the same story happened again!

Las aventuras de David y Danny

Había una vez dos niños que se llamaban David y

Danny. Caminaban por el bosque cuando encontraron

un río. Quisieron averiguar qué había al final del río y,

por eso, construyeron un barco. Navegaron por el río un

rato, pero entonces cayeron por unas cataratas y un

volcán. Oyeron un ruido y notaron que ¡se trataba de un

conejo enorme! El conejo bajó una canasta al volcán y

recogió el barco. Ya el conejo estaba a punto de beber

la lava (¡con David y Danny!), pero ellos saltaron de la

canasta hacia un nido donde encontraron unos huevos

de terodáctilo. Como no querían encontrarse con los

padres de los huevos, huyeron y encontraron, después

de mucho correr, su coche. Así, regresaron a casa para

ver a sus esposas sin olvidar llevar un huevo de te-

rodáctilo de regalo.

The Adventures of David and Danny

Once upon a time there were two boys named

David and Danny. They were walking along in a forest

once when they found a river. They wanted to see what

was at the end of the river, so they made a raft. They

sailed down the river in their raft, but then the raft fell

over a waterfall, and into a volcano. They heard a noise.

It was a huge rabbit! They rabbit lowered a basket down into the

volcano and fished them out with some lava. He was about to

drink the lava (with David and Danny!) but they jumped out. They

landed in a big nest. In the nest there were pterodactyl eggs.

They didn’t want to meet the pterodactyl parents, so they got

out of there fast and found their car and went home to see their

wives. They took a pterodactyl egg as a souvenir.

because he wanted to play outside. To make him feel

better, David’s mom bought him gloves, a coat and a

scarf so that he could play in the snow. When he

touched the snow with his glove, it felt fine. David ran

to his neighbor’s house and they sledded all day long!

El primer brillante copo de nieve

Un día, algo blanco cayó del cielo. Un niño feliz que

se llamaba David miró por la ventana para ver las misterio-

sas estrellas blancas y brillantes. Muchas de las estrellas

estaban cayendo rápidamente y desapareciendo en la tierra

con la misma velocidad.

David es de Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. Ahora, David vive en

Worcester con su mamá y su abuela y él nunca había visto

la nieve antes. David notó que había estado haciendo frio

afuera, pero nunca había sentido un frío igual antes. La

nieve seguía cayendo y el niño corrió a contarle a su mamá,

pero cuando llegó a la ventana, dejó de nevar. Muy pronto,

comenzó a nevar otra vez y David corrió hacia afuera ves-

tido con solo una camiseta y tocó la nieve con las manos

¡hacía mucho frío! La madre de David salió corriendo y, al

ver la nieve, le dijo a David que tenía que regresar a casa.

David se sentía triste porque quería jugar afuera. Para ha-

cerlo sentir mejor, su mamá le compró una chaqueta, una

bufanda y guantes para que pudiera jugar en la nieve cuanto

quisiera. Cuando David tocó la nieve con su guante, se

sentía bien y cómodo. David corrió a casa de su vecino y los

dos construyeron hombres de nieve y deslizadores durante

todo el día.

The First Glittering Snowflake

One day, something white fell out of the sky. A

happy little boy named David looked out his window to

see the mysterious, white, sparkling stars. Many of the

stars were falling quickly and disappearing on the

ground. David was from Rio

de Piedras, Puerto Rico.

Now, David lived in Worces-

ter with his mom and his

grandma, and he had never

seen snow before! David no-

ticed that it was getting

cold outside, but he had never felt cold weather before.

The stars kept falling and he ran to tell his mom, but

when she came to the window, it stopped snowing.

Soon, it started snowing again and

David ran outside with only a t-

shirt on and touched the snow

with his bare hands! It was freez-

ing! David’s mom ran outside and

Un niño que se llamaba Al fue de campamento. Buscó

leña e hizo una fogata. Su amigo Recon llegó y cocinaron

malvaviscos. A la mañana siguiente, un ruido extraño los

despertó, ¡era un monstruo! El monstruo los llevó a su

cueva para comerlos, pero cuando el monstruo dejó de

vigilarlos, empezaron a cavar. Cavaron un túnel y es-

caparon de la cueva. Poco después, llegó un helicóptero

que los rescató.

Camping

A boy called Al went camping. He collected firewood and

then made a big fire. His friend Recon showed up and

they roasted marshmallows. The next morning, a strange

noise woke them up. It was a monster! The monster took

them to his cave to eat them, but when he wasn’t look-

ing, they started to dig.

They dug a tunnel and es-

caped from the cave.

Then a helicopter that had

been looking for them

showed up and rescued

them.

Bryan, Jeffrey y Rambo contra los agentes del mal

Bryan y Jeffrey estaban en una lancha motora en el mar

mientras su amigo Rambo estaba escondido debajo del

agua. Los agentes del mal los perseguían en un avión. De

pronto, una ola enorme ayudó a Bryan y Jeffrey a aumentar

la velocidad y, cuando los agentes del mal intentaban dis-

pararles, consiguieron escapar. Entonces, los agentes

echaron unas pirañas al agua para que atacaran a Rambo,

pero logró huir y encontró un submarino en el que escon-

derse. Con sorpresa, se dio cuenta de que el submarino

era de los agentes del mal. Rambo pensó que los agentes

lo iban a matar, pero entonces aparecieron Bryan y Jef-

frey, quienes habían puesto unas bombas artificiales en el

submarino momentos antes. Los tres escaparon antes de

que explotaran las bombas que, posteriormente hirieron un

poco a los agentes del mal. Así Bryan, Jeffrey y Rambo es-

caparon por un largo tiempo.

Bryan, Jeffrey and Rambo Against the Agents of Evil

Bryan and Jeffrey are in a motorboat. Their friend Rambo

is hiding underwater with scuba diving gear. The agents of

evil are chasing them in a plane. A huge wave helps Bryan

and Jeffrey to speed up and get away from the evil agents,

El Hechizo

Había una vez una niña y

un niño que eran amigos. El niño

se llamaba Kelvin y la niña se lla-

maba Ashley. La niña era calva y llevaba un parche en

el ojo porque había recibido un hechizo.

Un día estuvieron jugando en el parque y luego

fueron a ver a los padres de Kelvin para pedir permiso

para que Ashley pasara allí la noche. Luego, vieron una

película y comieron muchas palomitas de maíz. Por la

mañana, decidieron desayunar y, poco después, Ashley

se fue a casa. Al llegar, encontró a un mago que hizo

desaparecer el hechizo. Poco después, Ashley se puso

muy feliz porque notó que le estaba creciendo el pelo.

Se pusieron todos a celebrar, encontraron a otro amigo

y decidieron, una vez más, ponerse a jugar.

The Curse

Once upon a time there was a girl and a boy.

The boy was named Kelvin and the girl was named

Ashley. The girl was bald and had an eye patch be-

cause she was cursed.

They were playing in the park. Then they de-

cided to go to Kelvin’s house and have a sleepover.

They saw a movie and ate popcorn at the sleepover.

Then, in the morning they decided to eat breakfast.

Ashley had to leave. When she got home, she met a

wizard and he lifted the curse. She was happy be-

cause she had hair. They decided to celebrate. Then,

they met another friend and decided, once again, to go

play.

who try to shoot them as they escape. Then the evil

agents throw piranhas into the water to eat Rambo, but he

escapes and finds a submarine to hide in. But then he real-

izes that the submarine belongs to the evil agents who

have abandoned the plane and gotten into the submarine.

He thinks they’re going to kill him, but then he sees Bryan

and Jeffrey, who have rigged the submarine with artificial

bombs. The three escape before the bombs explode,

wounding the evil agents, and letting Bryan, Jeffrey and

Rambo escape for good.

Halloween Town High

Once upon a time, there was a school called Hal-

loween Town High. There was a girl named Annie that

was new the school. One day, Annie made a wish that

she was the smartest girl in class. The next day,

Melinda the bad witch came with her ugly pet monster

named Gurgle. She challenged Annie to a spell war.

They both flew to the spell war battleground. They

landed in a dark and scary cave. Melinda the bad witch

put a spell on Annie that Annie couldn’t see/ Melinda

built a robot that looked like Annie and powered it to

say the wrong spells. Annie had a flashlight wand and

she asked Melinda why she built the robot. The spell

test began and Melinda took Annie’s spells. Melinda

turned Annie into another pet monster like Gurgle. When

Gurgle saw it, he fell in love and kissed Annie and she

turned back into herself and became the smartest girl in

class.

The End.

Una fiesta en la luna

Un día Maria, Nani, y Ali, fueron a una fiesta en la luna.

En la fiesta todas las personas jugaban los juegos de me-

sas. Ali se divertía porque en la luna todas las personas

pueden flotar. De pronto, hubo una vaca saltando sobre la

luna.

- “Mooooo” dijo.

Entonces Nani gritó, “¡Vamos a tener una fiesta bailable

con la vaca!”

Maria comenzó a bailar la macarena y todo el mundo se

unió a ella ¡fue la mejor fiesta vista en la luna en mucho

tiempo!

Party on the Moon

One day Maria, Nani, and Ali went to a party on the

moon. At the party everyone was playing tag and board

games. Ali was having a very good time because on the

moon everyone could float. All of the sudden there was

a cow jumping over the moon.

“Moo!” he said.

Then Nani shouted, “Let’s have a dance party with the

cow!”

Maria started doing

the Macarena and

everybody joined

her. It was the best

party on the moon

ever!

Halloween Town High

Había una vez una escuela que se llamaba Hallowe-

en Town High. A la escuela comenzó a asistir una nueva

niña llamada Annie. Un día, Annie pidió el deseo de ser la

niña más inteligente de la escuela. Al poco tiempo, llegó a

la escuela una bruja mala que se llamaba Melinda acompa-

ñada de su mascota monstruosa Gurgle. Ella desafió a An-

nie a una guerra de hechizos.

Las dos volaron al campo de

batalla. Llegaron a una cueva

oscura y espantosa. Melinda,

la mala, hechizó a Annie y la

dejó ciega. Luego, construyó

un robot que se parecía a An-

nie para que ella no pudiera descifrar los

hechizos correctos. Annie tenía una varita mágica con luz

y le dijo a Melinda, “¿por qué has construido el robot?” La

disputa de hechizos empezó y Melinda venció

transformando a

Annie en un mons-

truo como Gurgle.

Cuando Gurgle vio

a Annie, se enamoró

de ella y la

besó. Ella se

transformó en

ella misma

otra vez y , cumplido su deseo, se convirtió en la niña

Drake, Dory, and Peter at the Park

One night at the park, Dory the dog and Peter the Parrot

were sitting on a blanket looking at the stars. All of the sud-

den, Drake the dragon came out of his pyramid and flew into

the sky scaring Dory and Peter. After, Drake flew down and

said,

“Are you guys okay? I didn’t mean to scare you!”

Then Dory said, “That’s okay, it was an accident!”

“Where do you come from?” asked Peter.

Drake said, “I come from that pyramid near the water, can I

play with you guys?

“Of course” Dory answered, “We are just looking at the

stars, do you want to watch them with us?”

“Yes!” said Drake excitedly.

After that, Dory the dog, Peter the parrot, and Drake the

dragon played together until it started getting late. Then

Dory realized that her mom wanted her home by 8:30 for din-

ner. Everyone else was getting tired, so they all went

home, put on their pajamas, and then went to bed so

they could wake up for school.

A Day at the Beach

It was a sunny day at the beach near the ocean. There

were lots of waves and lots of people.

My friend Rodrigo and I were at the beach. We played

frisbee in the water. We ate chips and drank juice.

We went home late. Rodrigo had a sleep-over at my

house. We ate some chicken and played a video game

called, “ Death to Rights”. Then we went to bed.

We woke up and ate cereal for breakfast. Rodrigo

thanked me saying he had a great time at my house.

Next, we went outside and played soccer. The teams

were Rodrigo and I against 10 other kids. Our team’s

name was Barcelona and the other team was called

Real Madrid. We started playing and I passed the ball to

Rodrigo and he quickly passed it back to me. As soon

as I got the ball again, I shot it and, sure enough, it was

a goal! Later in the game, Real Madrid’s goalie passed

it to his teammate. I quietly sneaked behind him and

then stole the ball! I passed it to Rodrigo and then he

scored a goal! The other team became frustrated that

we were winning because they were convinced they

should win. Even though they tried their best, we won

and celebrated!

El día en la playa

Era un día soleado en la playa en el que disfrutamos

del sol y la brisa del mar. Había mucha gente y tam-

bién muchas olas. Mi amigo Rodrigo y yo estuvimos

jugando Frisbee en el agua y luego comimos hojuelas

de papa y tomamos jugo.

Más tarde fuimos a casa y Rodrigo pasó la noche con

nosotros. Comimos un poco de pollo y nos concen-

tramos en un juego de video que se llama “Muerte de

derechos” por un rato. Al final del día, nos fuimos a

dormir muertos de cansancio, pero muy contentos.

Al siguiente día, nos levantamos y comimos cereal.

Rodrigo agradeció mi hospitalidad y decidimos ir a la

cancha a jugar al fútbol. Los equipos estaban for-

mados por nosotros dos como integrantes del

primero y, el otro, con diez rivales. Nuestro equipo

se llamaba Barcelona y el otro se llamaba Real Ma-

drid. Empezamos el partido y le pasé la pelota a Rod-

rigo. Él me pasó la pelota rápidamente, la lancé al

arco y ¡metí un golazo! Más tarde, el portero del Real

Madrid pasó la pelota a uno de sus defensas y yo me

moví sorpresivamente y robé la pelota. Inmediata-

mente pasé la pelota a Rodrigo, lanzó un tiro y metió

otro gol para nuestro equipo. El otro equipo estaba

frustrado porque estábamos ganando con sólo dos

personas. Ellos intentaron cambiar el resultado pero

al final ¡nosotros ganamos y celebramos!

contraron el tesoro. Con él compraron materiales para

construir un avión y poder regresar a América del Norte.

Crayons in South America

On a plane to South America, the blue crayon Ben,

the green crayon Gary, and the red crayon Ralph

were waiting to land. When they reached South

America they found a mountain and parachuted

out of the plane. After they landed safely, they de-

cided to start looking for treasure. Then they saw

a deer.

“Will you show us where the treasure is on

this mountain?” they asked the deer.

The deer nodded and started to walk toward the

bottom of the mountain. After three hours they

found the treasure. With the treasure they bought

materials to build a plane and go back to North

America.

Crayónes en la América del Sur

En un avión a América de Sur, el crayón azul, Ben,

el crayón verde, Gary y el crayón rojo, Ralph, esta-

ban esperando aterrizar. Cuando llegaron a Améri-

ca del Sur, se encontraron con una montaña y se

lanzaron en paracaídas del avión. Después de que

aterrizaron a salvo, decidieron empezar a buscar

un tesoro. Entonces vieron un ciervo.

Ned and the Anaconda

In Tennessee there were little rivers with little trees.

There was an anaconda that patrolled the waters where

the people would go fishing. One day a man named Ned

went out fishing. When Ned failed to return that day, the

people feared that he had encountered the anaconda. It

turned out that this was the case but Ned was lucky

enough to escape due to the fact that the anaconda was

eating too many people and regurgitating the contents of

its belly.

When Ned returned to his town, he warned the people

that the anaconda was on the loose and could return at

any moment. The people were scared and stayed inside

and did not move out of fear that the anaconda would

sense their presence.

One day, the anaconda returned. Ned confronted it and

started to scream, “Get out of here, you slippery, slimy,

gross reptile!” The anaconda was heading straight towards

Ned, but then the people crept up behind him and poked

the anaconda with very sharp sticks. When the people had

finished poking the anaconda, they saw a figure emerging

from the creature’s belly. It was Alex, Ned’s long-lost

brother! They embraced and Ned, Alex and the townspeo-

ple lived happily ever after.

En Tennessee había tres pequeños ríos con pequeños

árboles. Cerca del lugar, había una anaconda que se

paseaba por las aguas donde la gente solía ir a pescar.

Un día, un hombre llamado Ned decidió ir a pescar.

Como Ned tardaba en volver al pueblo, la gente

comenzó a temer que hubiera habido un encuentro con

la anaconda. Efectivamente, Ned se había cruzado con

ella, pero fue afortunado al no ser devorado por el

animal. Hacía varios días que la anaconda había estado

comiendo “presas humanas” con exageración, así que

todavía no era capaz de digerir todo su alimento.

Cuando Ned finalmente regresó al pueblo,advirtió a la

gente que la anaconda andaba suelta y podía

aparecerse en cualquier momento. Todos se asustaron

mucho y trataron de permanecer dentro de sus casas

al máximo posible para no provocar a la anaconda. Sin

embargo, luego de algún tiempo, los habitantes del

pueblo se cansaron de huir de la anaconda y

comenzaron a pensar en un plan para deshacerse de

ella de una vez por todas. Debían empezar por

distraerla.

Un día, la anaconda regresó. Ned la enfrentó y

comenzó a gritarle: “¡Lárgate de aquí, criatura

resabalosa y grotesca!” La anaconda se dirigía hacia

Ned, pero en ese momento, la gente del pueblo se

colocó detrás de él y comenzó a goplear al reptil con

ti”. El resultado no se hizo esperar. A partir de ese día,

Sarah no fue acosada nunca más.

The Worst Day Ever

Once upon a time, there was a little girl named

Sarah. When she went to school, she thought every-

thing was good, but it wasn’t. There was a bully in

the classroom that was bullying her. The bully,

Roger, bullied her everyday.

But one day, she told the principal of the

school, Mrs. Hepburn. Mrs. Hepburn told Roger,

“Don’t bully Sarah anymore or you will be suspended.”

That day, Sarah did not get bullied again.

El peor día de la vida

Había una vez, una niña que se llamaba Sarah.

Cuando iba a escuela pensaba que todo sería bueno,

pero no fue así. Había un matón en la clase que había

comenzado a intimidarla todos los días.

Cansada del tormento, un día reunió coraje y le

contó todo a la señora Hepburn, la directora de la

escuela. Sin perder tiempo, la directora le llamó la

atención a Roger diciéndole con mucha severidad: “Si

continuas con tus abusos, serás suspendido. Tu

permanencia en esta escuela depende únicamente de

palos filudos. Cuando todos habían terminado de

atacar a la anaconda, vieron con sorpresa una

figura que emergía de la barriga del animal,¡se

trataba de Alex, el hermano de Ned que estuvo

perdido por largo tiempo! Los dos se abrazaron y,

después de ese incidente, Ned, Alex y la gente del

pueblo vivieron felices para siempre.
