We are doing the shul Rosh Hashana card project again. We have selected a real-ly beautiful card this year, and the card will
be custom printed and mailed to all shul members as well as any other families that are included in the card. The price remains
at only $18 per family, and the card is something you can keep all year round to always know the names of all families and their kids. Please note that new members
are free the first year. The last day to sign up to be included in the
shul 's Rosh Hashana card is Sunday. September 14th; & please call Sandy or

will be set up on the YIWH porch.

Thank you to our shul members who have either recently started to participate in the Scrip program or who have con-
tinued their involvement. I am happy to report that be-tween July 1 and August 31, our shul has raised $1408! I
sold the most number of supermarket gift cards in August since I started running this program last summer, and most
people didn't even start their holiday food shopping yet! Ten new families have started to buy supermarket gift cards
starting in July, and two new families enrolled in shopwithscrip.com
to make purchases from their favorite retailers. I look for-ward to hearing from many of you when you want to start

YAHRZEIT MEMORIAL SHABBAT

After having much success with a Shabbat Yahrzeit Lecture a few years ago, we are trying it again! As we approach the 23rd Annual Yahrzeit
Memorial Lecture instead of just one lecture we will have a whole Shabbat devoted to themes of memory.
Professor Avinoam J. Patt is the Philip D. Feltman Professor of Modern Jewish History at the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Hartford, where he is also director of the Museum of Jewish Civilization.
Previously, he worked as the Miles Lerman Applied Research Scholar for Jewish Life and Culture at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM).
He received his Ph.D. in Modern European History and Hebrew and Judaic Studies from New York University. His first book, Finding Home and Homeland: Jewish Youth and Zionism in the Aftermath of the Holocaust (published by Wayne State University Press, May 2009) examines the appeal of Zionism for young survivors in Europe in the aftermath of the Holocaust and their role in the creation of the state of Israel. He is also the co-editor (with Michael Berkowitz) of a collected volume on Jewish Displaced Persons, titled ‘We are Here: New Approaches to the Study of Jewish Displaced Persons in Postwar Germany’ (Wayne State University Press, February 2010). He has also published numerous articles, book chapters, and encyclopedia articles on various topics related to Jewish life and culture before, during, and after the Holocaust.
