Nondestructive Testing Program Description

The Nondestructive Testing Program consists of courses in the testing methods used in industry to examine an object, structure, material or system without impairing or destroying it.

Topics Covered • ND8-107 Liquid Penetrant 16 hours

Prepares you for an apprenticeship job in the nuclear, petrochemical, railroad, and manufacturing sectors as a Level I/Level II

• ND8-108 Magnetic Particle 24 hoursPrepares you for an apprenticeship job in the nuclear, petrochemical, railroad, and manufacturing sectors as a Level I/Level II.

• ND8-208 Longitudinal Ultrasonic Evaluation 40 hours Prepares you for an apprenticeship as an ultrasonic technician evaluating weldsand building structures as a Level I.

• ND4-207 Ultrasonic Testing Level Two 40 hours Prepares you for an apprenticeship as an ultrasonic technician evaluating weldsand building structures as a Level II.

• ND8-112 Radiation Safety 40 hours Prepares you for industrial radiographer training.

• ND8-201 Industrial Radiography Principles 40 hours Prepares you for an apprenticeship in the amusement, nuclear, and petrochemical sectors as a Level I.

• ND8-201 Industrial Radiography Principles 40 hours Prepares you for an apprenticeship in the amusement, nuclear and petrochemical sectors as a Level I.

• ND4-202 Radiation Testing 40 hoursPrepares you for an apprenticeship in the amusement, nuclear and petrochemical sectors as a Level II.

• ND8-203 Eddy Current 40 hoursPrepares you for an apprenticeship in the aerospace and nuclear sectors as a Level I.

Upon Completion• Each workshop attendee receives a Moraine Valley Community College certificate ofattendance and the appropriate adult education credit.

• Individuals who successfully complete ND8-112 Radiation Safety will be prepared totake the radiographer trainee test administered by the Illinois Emergency ManagementAgency (IEMA).

• Individuals who successfully complete the NDT courses will have fulfilled the trainingrequirements for certification as defined by SNT-TC-1A and ANSI/ASNT-CP-189.

Labor Market DataThe median annual wage for engineering technicians was $67,700 in May 2012. Employ-ment of engineering technicians is projected to grow 1 percent from 2012 to 2022.
