    Chapter 1  | Introduction

    CONFIDENTIAL MATERIALS

    1

    1 Introduction

This chapter describes how to use your computer to install the QPAEngine software on your mobile phone.

    Overview

You can use QualiPoc Active Engine (QPAEngine) to perform the following Quality Assessment (QA) tests:

Telephony: Speech Call and Video Call

      Video streaming

Messaging: MMS, SMS, and SMS Push

Browsing: HTML and WML over HTTP and WAP

Data: HTTP get/put, FTP UL/DL, Email, UDP streaming, and PING

The results are saved to measurement files (.mf) on the phone. If you want to store and perform analysis onthese files, you need to install the NQDI post-processing software on your computer. If you want to defineand to upload tests to one or more QualiPoc phones from your computer, that is, use QualiPoc in Advancedmode, .you need to install QPControl on your phone and Test Manager on your computer. To obtain thissoftware as well as NQDI, contact SwissQual.

    NTM Trace Functionality

SwissQual installs Nokia Test Mobile (NTM) (special firmware on a QualiPoc phone to enable real Layer 3trace capability. As a result, QPAEngine can measure Layer 3 information in both GSM and UMTS networksas well as force the phone to remain in a specific GSM or UMTS network or in a pre-defined band.

    System Requirements

Please check the release notes for a list of supported OS version and devices.

Important: These phones must have NTM trace enabled firmware. If you bought your phone fromSwissQual, this firmware is already installed, otherwise, contact SwissQual support.

Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card that supports the services which you want to test  Computer Requirements:

o  Nokia PC Suiteo  Bluetooth adapter or Nokia data cable

Note: The Bluetooth adapter must support the Bluetooth Serial Port profile. For installation instructions, consult the manual for the Bluetooth adapter.

    Installing QPAEngine

You require the following Symbian Installation Source (SIS) files to install QualiPoc:

      QpaEngine-version-Signed.sis  QualiPoc Licence Key Name-Signed.sis

Note: If you do not have this licence key file, contact SwissQual support.

      (Optional) DefaultNotificationClips-Signed.sis

This package installs sound files for the Notification feature. For more information, see the "UsingNotifications" chapter on page 28.

QualiPoc measurement files use the following naming convention:

    MM-DD-hh-mm.mf

      MM is the Month

      DD is the day

      hh is the hour

      mm is the minute.

Note: MapMarker files use the .tab extension.

    Uploading Files with FTP

Before you can upload your measurement files to an FTP server, you need to specify the login informationfor the server in QPAEngine.

    5 Positioning

This chapter describes how to configure QPAEngine to use GPS and position markers. Such markers areuseful to find specific events or positions when you review your measurement results in the NQDI post-processing software.

    Using GPS

For GPS functionality in QPAEngine, you need a Bluetooth GPS device. The only exception is the Nokia N95phone, which has an internal GPS.

A Bluetooth GPS device can only serve one phone at a time and requires line of site access to at least threeGPS satellites to compute a valid position. For best results, turn on the GPS device at least five minutesbefore you begin a test that uses a GPS. If a job requires GPS, QPAEngine waits until the phone receivesvalid GPS information to start the job.

Note: Weather, terrain, and buildings can interfere with the signal reception.

    Configuring GPS

Before you can use a GPS device, you need to configure the GPS settings in QPAEngine.

To use the internal GPS on a Nokia N95 phone

    1. Select Options > Settings > GPS > SA GPS usage.

Note: When you configure QPAEngine manually, that is, without Test Manager, the phone is in Semi- Automatic (SA) mode.

    2. Select Internal and then select OK.

To pair a phone with a Bluetooth GPS device

    1. Select Options > Settings > GPS > Select BT-GPS device.

    2. Select the GPS device in the list and then press Select.

If you do not see the device, turn the device on and off, and then repeat steps 1 and 2.

Note: To pair with a Bluei BT GPS Receiver, enter the 0000 passkey in your phone at the prompt. Youonly have to enter this passkey for the first start.

To configure a Bluetooth GPS device

    1. Select Options > Settings > GPS.

Important: Only the phone, that is, the A-side job, waits for the valid position. The B-side job startsregardless of whether of the validity of the GPS position. This setting only works with a Bluetooth GPSdevice.

    5. (Optional) Select GPS Log Interval, enter the amount of time to wait between log entries in seconds, and then select OK.

Important: This setting only works with a Bluetooth GPS device. To keep the log files small, enter a highvalue. To obtain high resolution positioning data, enter a low value. Using Position Markers

Position markers help you to quickly find special events or positions when you examine your measurement

data in the NQDI post-processing software. During a test, you can add markers based on a floor map forindoor tests and predefined text markers for outdoor tests. The markers are added to the measurement fileand processed by NQDI during import.

    Text Markers

Before you can use text markers in QPAEngine, you need to prepare and copy a .csv file with the textmarkers to your phone. When you add a text marker during a measurement, QPAEngine inserts a timestampalong with the marker in the results file.

Create the .csv file so that each row corresponds to one text marker, for example:

    Br i dge

    SubwayShoppi ng Mal l

    St adi um

    Bus

     Taxi

If you want to save positions with the text, use the following format:

    Corner 1; 3. 82247; - 1. 23092

    Corner 2; 3. 20044; - 1. 71962

After you create the .csv file, copy the file to the following location on the phone:

To enable text markers for an outdoor test

    1. Copy the .csv files with the textmarkers to the location:C:/Data/QualiPoc/Markers/Text/Filename.csv

    2. Select Options > Settings > MarkerSettings > Marker Type > TextMarker , and then select OK.

    Map Markers

The Map Marker feature allows you to add waypoints to a floor map during a measurement. Each waypointis automatically converted to a position on a standard projection of the floor map in World Geodetic System, revision WGS84. As a result, NQDI does not need to generate an additional projection in post-processing.

When add a map marker, that is, a waypoint, during a test, QPAEngine inserts a timestamp along with themarker in the results file. When your import the file into the NQDI database, NQDI interpolates the positionsof each measurement based on the waypoints that you se during the test.
