8.0 (200MM) SUPER LOW-PRO MONITOR (FLANGED) INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
MODEL # 980200
1) Refer to the appropriate drawing for vertical and horizontal operating radii of the monitor. Make sure the monitor installation location is free from obstructions to normal operation of the unit.
2) Make sure that mounting flange and piping is sturdy enough to withstand the
powerful jet reaction force produced by the monitor, i.e. overturning moment and shear on the flange mounting bolts. Jet reaction forces at various flow rates and pressures can be found on catalog page 10.3.1 in the back of this manual.
3) Install monitor using suitable fasteners that properly fit the flanges, Grade 5
minimum. Refer to the illustration below for correct orientation.
4) Install nozzle on outlet of monitor. If nozzle is flanged then use -10UNC (orM20) Grade 5 stainless steel bolts or better if nozzle is threaded style, use appropriate spanner wrench and tighten securely to monitor Foam Aspirating nozzle is fitted with 5/8UNC or M16 bolts. Fog/Jet nozzle is fitted with UNC Bolts. Stang to supply at commissioning.
5) Connect flexible hydraulic hoses for spray deflector and changeover mechanism if
relevant.
6) Make electrical connections using appropriate wire size for length of run and full load current requirements. Current draw may be found on monitor top assembly drawing (980200)
7) NOTE: Check that motors are wired to suit supplied voltage, motors are supplied
hi and lo voltage, instructions given on motor. If Phases to the motor are such that the motors turn in the wrong direction then this may prevent the proximity switch not to function.
8) Switch on the power switch on the control panel. Make sure that the green LED
is lit when power is activated if so equipped. If LED is not lit, then recheck power connections.
9) Without water turned on to the unit, check for proper function of the monitor, i.e.
UP, DOWN, LEFT AND RIGHT movement. 10) Set vertical and horizontal sweep limit (proximity) switches to desired monitor
travel limits.

11) Turn water on to monitor. CAUTION!! DO NOT STAND IN THE PATH OF THE JET STREAM. SERIOUS INJURY MAY OCCUR!! Always make sure that all people and obstacles are well out of the way of the jet stream.
12) Re-check for proper monitor operation. Verify that movement is smooth and
uninterrupted throughout the total sweep range.
13) Monitor is ready for use. Refer to maintenance instructions for periodic maintenance needs.
14) A hand crank is supplied with the monitor. BEFORE USE, YOU MUST
DISCONNECT THE POWER TO THE MONITOR. The handle can operate monitor movements, is useful to set the Proximity Sensors, for maintenance purposes, and, for emergency operation in the event of a power failure.

TB-105 8.0 (200MM) SUPER LOW-PRO MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE
& RECOMMENDED SPARE PARTS LIST
Maintenance:
1) Swivel assemblies should be greased periodically to ensure proper lubrication during use. Use good quality lithium or molybdenum grease. Always use a hand operated grease gun. DO NOT use a pressurized grease gun as this may cause damage to the swivel races, pressure seal or ball access plugs. Swivel assemblies should be greased once a month during heavy usage and once every three months during light usage.
2) Monitor should be checked for leaks and proper function once a
month. Check all fasteners for tightness. Check all electrical cables and fittings.
3) Monitor is manufactured with corrosion resistant materials
throughout. Regular inspection of coatings is advised.

multiplying by 2.31 and then add the static head. Plot the system pressure drop characteristics on the pump curve. The system flow rate is where the two lines cross.

Stang monitors are also in service on several abs (American Bureau of Shipping) certified vessels. Stang used UL/FM/CSA electrical components on remotely controlled monitor systems when required and/or available. All monitors are designed and manufactured in the United States meeting Stangs stringent quality controls standards. Stang has a reputation of excellence around the world in the monitor business with products in at least 85% of the refineries in the United States. In many refineries, Stang is the standard with no equal. (Please see the attached Stang Quality Statement.) This information and data has been supplied in order to help in the evaluation of Stangs monitors and support equipment/systems.

Technical Bulletin #: TB-39 Part #: N/A Description: Factory Proof Pressure and Functional Testing TB Description General testing procedures for Stang equipment ____________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Proof Pressure Testing:
Pressurize the unit with either water or hydraulic oil (mil h5606 or equivalent) at a pressure which is greater of 300 psig or 1 x the maximum operating pressure for a minimum period of 5 minutes. Make observations for any leakage, seepage or permanent distortion resulting from the test. Leakage, seepage or permanent distortion is the basis for rejection.
2. Functional Testing Manually Operated Monitors: Manually swing the monitor through its maximum vertical and full horizontal sweep ranges. Lock the swivels in place and ensure they are tight. Any sign of significant resistance to rotation or rough operation is the basis for rejection.
3. Functional Testing Remote Controlled Monitor System: Interconnect all of the components to be shipped as a system and fully operate the monitor through its maximum vertical and full horizontal sweeps with hydraulic oil or electric power as applicable. Operate all the controls from the control panel to ascertain proper operation. Rough or erratic operation or non-function is the basis for rejection.
4. Engineering Design: Engineering may vary the procedures dependent on specific project requirements.

IN-HOUSE DESIGN, FABRICATION AND QUALITY CONTROL STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Engineering Staff Qualifications: Staff engineers are licensed professional mechanical engineers in the State of California. Stang is a NFPA Certified Technical Member on the committee for Marine Fire Fighting Vessels. Design Basis: The ANSI/ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code is used as a basis for the monitor design, fabrication and tolerance requirements. Electrical Componentry: For remotely controlled fire fighting monitor system Stang selects electrical components that are either UL, FM or CSA approved, listed or recognized where available. Fabrication: Stangs welders are either certified to the ASME Unfired Pressure Vessel Code, Section IX or are supervised by personnel so certified. Testing: Units are normally proof pressure tested at 1-1/2 times design or operating pressure for a minimum of 5 minutes. Remote control systems are functionally tested for 20 to 30 minutes at the factory. Quality Control Program: Stang is in the same facility as Stangs parent, GST Industries, Inc. GST Industries designs and manufactures fluid componentry and electro-mechanical devices for the aerospace industry, such as fighter aircraft. Therefore the complete facility is guided by the procedures outlined in MIL-I-45208 A, inspection requirements; MIL STD 45662, calibration of inspection and measurement requirements; portions of MIL STD 1535, quality assurance requirements and is system certified annually for SPC (statically Process Control) by the Lockheed Aircraft Company and DCAS (Department of Defense). _____________________ Charles Ronie President Stang Industrial Products
