. 1 . l n t r o d n c t i o n : The T r a c k r e c o r d i n g c a r s (TRCs) a r e equipped w i t h a m e a s u r i n g f r a m e mounted on t h e 3 m e a s u r i n g b o g i e . The s e n s o r s f o r s e n s i n g d e f e c t s - o f g a u g e and a l i g n m e n t are .mounted on t h e m e a s u r i n g f r a m e . Measurement o f t r a c k parameter is p o s s i b l e a t s p e e d u p t o 100 km/h on w e l l n a i n t a i n e d t r a c k . A t h i g h e r s p e e d s , t h e f e e l e r s are p r o n e t o l o o s e c o n t a c t w i t h t h e r a i l r e s u l t i n g i n i n a c c u r a c y i n r e c o r d i n g . T h i s h a p p e n s p a r t i c u l a r l y a t l o c a t i o n s of sha rp c h a n g e s i n t h e r a i l a l i g n m e n t ( a l i g n m e n t k inks , p o i n t o f e n t r y i n t h e t u r n o u t s e t c ) where s p u r i o u s l a r g e p e a k s c a l l e d " f l i c k s " may be r e p o r t e d . T h e r e f o r e t h e s p e e d of r e c o r d i n g s h o u l d b e r e d u c e d where r u n n i n g is rough . 2 . C o n f i g u r a t i o n o f : The body of t h e m e a s u r i n g f r ame b a s i c a l l y H e a s u r i n g f r a m e c o n s i s t s of two l o n g i t u d i n a l beams he ld

e q u i d i s t a n t by two o r t h r e e p a i r s of c r o s s - beams. The f r a m e is mounted on t h e pr imary s p r i n g b a s e a t t h e o u t e r a x l e - b o x e s of t h e m e a s u r i n g b o g i e . The m e a s u r i n g f r ame p r o v i d e d i n t h e H e c h a n i c a l TRC h a s two sets of c r o s s beams [ F i g . l ( a ) l . Each s e t o f c r o s s - b e a m s c a r r i e s 2 s p r i n g l 'oaded f e e l e r p l a t e s , one f o r t h e l e f t r a i l and o n e f o r t h e r i g h t r a i l .

On t h e l e a d i n g ( t o w a r d s t h e m i d d l e o f t h e c o a c h ) e c c e n t r i c b o l t s , t h e l o n g i t u d i n a l beams are mounted w i t h round b e s r i n g s . 3.Ilportant Bogie : P e r f e c t mount ing o f M e a s u r i n g frame and its Clearances s t a b i l i t y d e p e n d s upon good r i d i n g q u a l i t y

o f t h e m e a s u r i n g b o g i e . The recommended d i m e n s i o n s (Ref. S k e t c h N0.75055 of T e c h n i c a l P a m p h l e t N0.C-7501 and IRCA P a r t - I V ) which a r e g e n e r a l l y c o n s i d e r e d good p r a c t i c e , t h e a d o p t i o n of wh ich w i l l l e a d t o good r u n n i n g of TRC ~ n d p r o p e r moun t ing o f m e a s u r i n g f r a m e a r e d e t a i l e d be low. A d e p a r t u r e f rom t h e s e d i m e n s i o n s must n o t b e a l l o w e d . These d i m e n s i o n s s h o u l d b e c h e c k e d b e f o r e t a k i n g o u t t h e TRC from t h e s h o p a f t e r e v e r y POH/IOH and d u r i n g s e r v i c e and a r e c o r d t o b e m a i n t a i n e d .

6.Daily Hain ten- :Heasur ing Frame and o t h e r e q u i p n e n t s m u s t be I an ce checked eve ry day b e f o r e c a l i b r a t i o n and

I logbook t o be ma in t a ined eve ry day a s per proforma g i v e n i n Annexure-I. .

i) A l l b o l t s & n u t s t o b e t e s t e d by tapping the heads of b o l t s w i t h s t r o k e of l i g h t hammer.

i i ) C o n d i t i o n of wi re - rope , i ts a l ignment , t ens ion a l o n g w i t h t i g h t n e s s of wi re - locks t o be checked b e f o r e check ing t h e f e e l e r t ens ion . F e e l e r t e n s i o n t o be ma in t a ined w i t h i n 18 kg f 2 kg.

iii) Depth of f e e l e r b l a d e bottom edge from the r a i l t o p (14mm) and wear of c a r b i d e t i p s t o be checked . A f t e r 6 om wear of c a r b i d e t i p s , t h e h o l d e r s shou ld b e t u r n e d u p s i d e down and can be r e -used . The f l a r e d ends of f e e l e r s must be 10 am from t h e r a i l . Excep t ca rb ide t i p s no o t h e r p a r t of f e e l e r should touch the r a i l .

i v ) Be fo re t e n s i o n i n g , t h e f r e e movement of f e e l e r s must be checked t o t e s t t h e condi t ion of f e e l e r - b e a r i n g s .

V ) ~ i t t i n g s of LVDTs and Accele ' rometers must be checked f o r p rope r h o l d i n g s o t h a t t h e f i t t i n g s do n o t g e t loosened d u r i n g r e c o r d i n g due t o v i b r a t i o n s .

Base p l a t e s of v e r t i c a l LVDTs t o be cleaned and l u b r i c a t e d aith-grease - 3-r - f r e e l a t e r a l movement of t h e LVDT r o d .

v i ) . L u b r i c a t i o n of a l l b e a r i n g s m u s t be done from . t h e n i p p l e s .

v i i ) On t h e day of f o r n a t i o n - o f TRC s p e c i a l , b e f o r e b e g i n i n g of a r e c o r d i n g programme, d e t a i l e d

I c a l i b r a t i o n check of t h e t r a n s d u c e r s should be c a r r i e d o u t and r e c o r d kept a s p e r t h e proforma g iven i n Annexure I I ( a ) and I I ( b ) .
