3. INITIAL CONFIGURATIONS 3.1 OVERVIEW 3.1.1 What are Initial Configurations?

Initial configurations refer to the process of upgrading your CamBall’s software to the latest version and making the basic configurations that are essential to the device’s functionality.

3.1.2 What is Upgrading? In addition to the hardware components, CamBall also comes installed with software components. There are two programs to be exact: CamBall Firmware and CamBall Manager.

Upgrading is the act of replacing CamBall Firmware and CamBall Manager with their latest versions to ensure optimal device performance.

Whenever a program is upgraded, all settings restore back to their default values.

3.1.3 What are Basic Configurations? Basic configurations include language setting, monitor type selection, and date/time settings, which are best to configure before you start enjoying your CamBall. These three settings are collectively called basic configurations.

3.1.4 Initial Configurations Guide Initial configurations are performed using CamBall Manager.

Connect your CamBall to a PC using the USB cable included in your product bundle.

From the enclosed CD-ROM, copy the CamballManager.exe file to your PC.

Run the CamballManager.exe file from the PC to launch CamBall Manager. The program will then guide you through the following steps: 1. CamBall Manager Version Check:

CamBall checks its own version and prompts you to upgrade if a newer version is available.

2. CamBall Firmware Version Check: If CamBall Firmware is up to date, you will only be prompted to make a language selection. If a newer version is available, you will be prompted to upgrade after the language selection.

3. Initial Configurations

3.2 UPGRADING 3.2.1 Upgrading CamBall Manager

When launched, CamBall Manager will first check for the latest version of itself.

If the application is up to date, CamBall Manager will proceed to check for the latest version of CamBall Firmware.

If a more recent version is available, you will be prompted as shown in the diagrams below. Click Yes to upgrade CamBall Manager.

Page 12: Manual-CamBall R03-Eng 2008-11-07

3.2.2 Upgrading CamBall Firmware After checking for the latest version of CamBall Firmware, CamBall Manager will prompt you to make a language selection if CamBall Firmware does not require any updating. Clicking Confirm will finalize the upgrading process.

If a newer version of CamBall Firmware is available, CamBall Manager will automatically commence the upgrade process after you make your language selection.

When the following dialog prompts, click Safely Remove Hardware.

In the next dialog, select USB Mass Storage Device and then click Stop.

Then, select USB Mass Storage Device again in the next dialog and click OK.

Since you’ve already made your language selection during the upgrading process, it’s OK to skip this step.

However, if you wish to change your language selection, select the desired language from the Language Setup menu and then click Apply.

3.3.3 Monitor Type Selection

In order to connect your CamBall to a TV or an LCD monitor (in Monitor mode), you will first need to identify the type of display device you intend to use. North America uses the NTSC system, whereas Europe and some parts of Asia use the PAL system. Note that the default monitor type setting is NTSC.

4. OPERATION4.1 PREPARATIONS

Refer to the “2. Connecting Your CamBall” section of this manual and charge CamBall’s internal battery for at least 2 hours and 30 minutes.

If you are using an external memory card (Micro SD), insert it into CamBall.

All references to the [direction] buttons throughout this manual are based on the external memory slot being pointed up and the USB Port being pointed down.

4.2 CamBall STATUS CHECK Press the [▼] button. System status is normal if three LED indicators turn green and then turn off, as shown below:

① Green: More than 70% memory capacity

available.

② Green: More than 70% battery reserve remaining.

③ Green: Overwrite option enabled.

4.3 AUTO POWER ON CamBall includes an automatic power on feature that automatically turns on the CamBall (powered off using the [Center] Button) when external power is connected to the device. Once powered on, CamBall will remain powered on even if the external power supply is disconnected.

4.4 RECORDING 4.4.1 Accessing Camcorder Mode

Press and hold the [▼] button. With each press of the button, the MODE LED located below the [▼] button will change between red and off.

Note For SG-21, MODE LED will cycle through ‘red green off’ if there is at least one .mp3 file in memory.

Set the MODE LED to off, which is the Camcorder mode.

Note ”5. 3 Operating Modes of CamBall” section describes the Camcorder mode’s four recording options (normal, vehicle, security, and All-Day) and Power Saving feature in detail.

4.4.2 Recording Start and Stop Now that CamBall is in Camcorder mode, you are ready to record video.

This time, press and hold the [▲] button. With each press of the button, the REC LED located above the [▲] button will switch between ‘red+green and off’.

Stop when the REC LED is ‘red+green’, which is the mode that allows you to record both video and audio.

Recording (video and audio) has now started. To finish recording, press and hold the [▲]button until the REC LED is in off mode.

Note It'It’s possible to connect your CamBall to an external display device and watch your videos as you record them. Connecting to an external display device deactivates the PS option, but Motion Detection Recording will still remain in effect.

Page 16: Manual-CamBall R03-Eng 2008-11-07

16

4.4.3 Recording File Sizes For built-in memory files, CamBall records video files in 1 hour or 20MB units. For Micro SD card files, the video files are created in 1 hour or 300MB units.

The reason for this method of file sizing is to prevent complete deletion of previously recorded single large files by the Overwrite feature.

Note Enabling the PS feature deactivates time limitations for recordings and implements size limites only (20MB for internal memory and 300MB for external).

4.4.4 Recording File Naming Recording files are named in the format of YY/MM/DD-HH/MM/SS-Recording Sequence. Here, the time refers to the recording start time.

File names carry either a B or an M prefix. B is for files recorded to built-in memory, whereas M is for files recorded to external memory (Micro SD).

Extension for recording files is .avi.

Note File Extensions - Video File: .avi - Audio File: .wma - Image File: .jpg

File Naming Examples: B20080930-141523-00.avi A file that was recorded on to built-in memory starting at 14:15:23 on September 30, 2008.

M20080930-141523-00.avi A file that was recorded on to external memory starting at 14:15:23 on September 30, 2008.

Note With the Overwrite option disabled, CamBall will automatically stop recording if the memory becomes completely full. If you attempt to make a recording at this point, the MEM LED will blink red five times and recording will NOT commence. Delete files to free up space in your memory and you will be able to record again.

Note Under Vehicle, Security, or Monitor mode recording, recording will automatically resume when power is reconnected after the battery dies and CamBall powers off.

Connecting CamBall to a computer while recording is in progress suspends the recording. Disconnectin CamBall from the PC will resume the recording.

Normal Recording (R/T LED: Off) Overview: Use this option to take normal video recordings using your CamBall. Recording: Once started, recording will continue until stopped by the user or the battery is completely used up. If plugged into a power source via the USB adapter, CamBall will automatically switch to its internal batteries if the power supply is disrupted (blackout) and continue to record until stopped by the user or the battery is completely used up. If recording with the battery as the power supply and the battery dies down, CamBall will power down. Once this occurs, reconnecting power to the CamBall and powering it back on will not result in automatic resume of recording.

Charging: No matter the level of remaining battery reserve, CamBall will charge the battery if plugged into a power source.

Vehicle Recording (R/T LED: Red) Overview: Use this option to record videos from inside a vehicle. Recording: With a vehicle adapter connected, CamBall will automatically start recording when the ignition is turned on. Following configuration options determine what CamBall does after the ignition is turned off: - 1~120mins: Continue recording for the configured duration using the battery and then

automatically terminate. - Off: Stop recording right away. - On: Continue recording until battery dies down. - If a vehicle adapter is not connected, CamBall will continue to record until the battery dies down.

Note Battery-powered Recording Duration After the Engine is Shut off. Go to Monitor mode and configure under [Setup>Others>Record After Ignition Off].

Charging: Charging CamBall's battery every time the engine is turned on results in excessively frequent charging and discharging, which shortens the battery’s life. In order to prevent this, CamBall is programmed to start charging only when the battery reserve falls below 30%.

Security Recording (R/T LED: Green) Overview: Use this option to turn your CamBall into a security recording device. With this option enabled, restoring power back to CamBall after it has shut down due to battery discharge or blackout will automatically start charging the battery and resume video recording (recording does not resume with normal recording option). This is an advanced feature that eliminates the need for the user to physically restart recording when CamBall is located at a remote location.

Recording: Long pressing the [◀] button to enable the security recording option alone will not initiate CamBall to start video recording. You will need to long press the [▲] button so that the REC LED turns red+green in order to start security video recording. Once security video recording starts, security recording option will remain enabled under all conditions from that point on.

Charging: No matter the level of remaining battery reserve, CamBall will charge the battery if plugged into a power source.

All-Day Recording (R/T LED: Red+Green) Overview: Use this option for extended duration recordings in situations with continuous motion. With the option enabled, pressing the [Center] button in urgent or emergency situations will instantly commence video recording from standby state. Recording: Repeats between user-defined recording duration (5~30secs) and standby (1~9mins). As noted above, pressing the [Center] button in urgent or emergency situations enables instant recording (1~9mins) while in standby state.

Note Time Settings Configure recording, standby and emergency recording times from [Setup>Others>All-Day Record Setup].

All-Day Recording Option Scheduling

Press the [Center] button. (1-9mins) (1-9mins) (5-30secs) (5-30secs) (1-9mins)

Charging: No matter the level of remaining battery reserve, CamBall will charge the battery if plugged into a power source.

Deactivating All Day Recording: While CamBall is in the standby phase, all the buttons with the exception for the [Center] button are non-functional. Therefore, in order to deactivate the All Day Recording option, you will need to press the [Center] button to wake up your CamBall from its sleep status and then press and hold the [▲] button. This will deactivate the option.

5.2.4 Power Saving Recording Option (Motion Detection) Use this option to minimize memory and batter use under the Camcorder mode. With this option enabled, CamBall will only commence recording when motion is detected.

Power saving recording is available for normal, vehicle, and security recording options, but not for the All Day Recording option.

With this option enabled, your CamBall will scan for motion every two seconds and, if motion is detected, will record video for two minutes.

Press and hold the [►] button to change the P/S LED in the order of ‘red green off’. - Red: Motion detection recording with audio and video (power and memory use saving). - Green: Motion detection recording with video only (normal audio recording – saves on memory but

not power). - Off: Motion detection disabled (no power or memory use saving). When you playback a motion detection recording that was made with the LED in red, it is possible for you to experience sudden interruptions in audio. This is not caused by production malfunction. With power saving option enabled, CamBall enters standby status (sleep) if there is no motion. This means video will not record if there is sound but no motion and motion detection recordings, when played back, will have audio interruptions.

With the LED in green, CamBall does not enter standby status (sleep) when there is no motion and instead continues to record audio. This setting does not offer any power savings, but does reduce the amount of memory use.

Note Waking Up from Sleep Mode: If CamBall has entered Sleep mode (record standby) due to inactivity, only the [Center] button remains functional and the remaining four buttons become deactivated. In Sleep mode, pressing the [Center] button wakes up CamBall and commences recording for two minutes.

End Recording & Status Check: Press the [Center] button to wake up CamBall from Sleep mode and then press and hold the [▲] button to end recording or press the [▼] button to check the current CamBall status. These [▲] and [▼] button options are, however, available for two minutes only.
