Solar Panels at Manly West Last Friday, the Solgen representatives of the winning Solar Panel
tender at Manly West attended a set up meeting for preparation for installation. Student Representatives, Emily Grimes, Emily Braines, Zev Shy-Tielen and Sebastian Nop also attended the meeting and were incredibly interested in the process and understanding of corporate business strategies. The 100kw panels will be installed on the Hall roof and the Boyle St Building. Thank you to the P&C for their contribution to the Solar Panel installation. Apart from being a
great educational tool for our students, it will also offset our air conditioning costs. Library The library is closed for renovations this week. New shelves will be installed and next term, new furniture will be delivered. Thank you to Mrs Swick, Mrs Burke and Mr Perks for the organization this week. Athletics Carnival –Years 3-6 Congratulations to all Years 3-6 students and teachers for the very successful
carnival last Wednesday. Today, many of our students will be attending the District Athletics Field and Track events. We wish them all the best in their competitions. Thank you to Mrs McMaster, Mrs Gaynor and Mr Byrne. Athletics News so far: Congratulations to Dylan Swanson for coming first in the District Junior Boys High Jump and to Luke Black for coming second. Pilot Minecraft
Manly West PS was selected for a Minecraft Pilot Installation program. Mr Richards and Miss Monds are each trialling this program with 3/4R and KG. They are reporting back to the Department of Education and we will benefit from the expertise that both teachers and students will gain through the Pilot. Getting on Track in Time (Got It!) Parent Workshops in Term 4 There are two dates for Universal Training in Emotion Coaching for K-6 parents and caregivers presented by Sydney North Health. All parents and caregivers are welcome:
Thursday 12th October 6pm –Session 1
Thursday 19th October 6pm –Session 2 Environmental Sustainability Manly West is already achieving some ground work with Environmental Sustainability. The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program is assisting our students to understand the importance of soil for growth, recycling and composting. Students learn about Sustainability within their syllabus units. The Canteen staff are beginning to work with the school and students to promote sustainability. The Student Representative Council, the
Environmental Monday Group and the P&C are also beginning to initiate innovative ideas as well. We still have much to do in our school and this area will certainly continue as a significant focus in the next three year plan. We have recently learned that the rubbish collected by Doyle Brothers, is separated and recycled so at this stage, we do not need a separate plastics collection. We do have a separate paper recycling collection. Student News Congratulations to Hannah McIlwaine, who has been
selected to perform at the State Dance Festival in September at the Seymour Centre.
Congratulations and good luck to Finn O’Brien, who has been selected in the Sydney North Trials for Water Polo in October. Congratulations to Grace Noble who has been chosen out of 850 entrants for the Northern Beaches Art Prize
exhibition.

BounceBack - Relationships
All children want close relationships with friends and classmates at school. These important
relationships help them to cope better with life’s occasional hard times. Talking with your child about
relationships is important.
It’s OK to have an argument as long as you don’t hurt the other person:
Disagreement happens sometimes in friendships or between classmates. Speak up when you think
that things are not fair or when you don’t agree about something, but do so in a way that doesn’t
hurt the other person or their feelings, and remember to try and see things from their point of view
as well. It is important to find a way to disagree that lets you both find a solution to the problem
and still be friends. It is easier to do this if you try to manage your angry feelings.

WAITING LIST
The waiting list continuously moves as families’ circumstances change. As an indication, in the last week we have offered a further 20 places. We understand it can be frustrating waiting for places but please be aware
that due to regulation requirements we can only cater for 150 children per session.
