We’re on the web!
Attention Church School Students & Parents!
Join us on Sunday, September 13th or Wednesday, September 16th for our Church
School Rally Day!
Sunday, September 13th: At 9:30 A.M. all students are encouraged to come downstairs to find their classroom and meet their teachers.
All kids are welcome to join in on the fun!
Wednesday, September 16th: At 6:00 P.M. all students are encouraged to come downstairs to find their classroom and meet their teachers.
All kids are welcome to join in on the fun!
It is hard to believe that the summer is over. As I write this many
of our children and youth are getting ready to start school. Some for the
first time, some transitioning in to middle or high school, and still others
starting or continuing their higher education. This is a busy time of the
year.
It is hard to believe that the summer is over. From Vacation Bible
School in June with the awesome camp staff from Camp of the Cross to
camp itself, this summer has been filled with experiences.
Experiences-some fun, some not so fun, and some that deeply
shaped and formed us. Just think of those 16 youth and 3 adults that went
to Detroit! What an amazing experience, a forming experience! If you
haven’t yet, ask them how it went, ask them to tell their stories. Ask them
what it means that Jesus is Good News!
Summer is over and fall has began with it’s slow (or not so slow)
journey to winter. So this month let us bless those who are still students
both the young and the old.
Oh God, as many do the very important work of being students, bless them with:
eagerness to learn, that their world may grow large; respect for teachers and
students, that they may form healthy relationships; love for nature, that they may
become caretakers of your creation; happiness when learning is easy and stick-
to-it-iveness when it is hard; faith in Jesus as their best teacher and closest
friend. We ask that you would protect these, your own children. Watch over
them and keep them safe as they travel to and from school. As they learn, help
them also to discover the different gifts that you have given each one of them to
be used in your work in the world. As they hear the many voices that will fill
their days, help them to listen most carefully for your voice, the one that tells
them you will love them always, no matter what. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Taken from the “blessing of backpacks” , Sundays and Seasons
Thanks be to God! Amen.

Remember starting September 6th we will resume
our regular Sunday service schedule, 8:30
(Traditional) & 10:45 (Contemporary) A.M.
________________________________________________ ATTENTION ALL QUILTERS:
Quilting is starting up again!! September 21st & 22nd and
September 28th & 29th from 9:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. You don’t need
any experience, just come and have fun. Bring a sack lunch.
Let's brake our record from last year and do 3 deliveries instead of 2!
Many children in Mandan begin school each year without supplies. During the next few months, please check the school supply aisles and consider making a purchase for those less fortunate right here in Mandan. Supplies needed are 24 box crayons, pencils, erasers, glue, glue sticks, rulers, scissors, back packs, folders and regular or college ruled tablets. Any supplies received will be equally distributed among the 6 Mandan elementary schools. The schools last year were very appreciative of all the supplies that were given to them! There will be a SPECIAL BOX for these items in the narthex; please drop your donations in there. Thank you for your kindness.
Trunk or Treat is coming to First Lutheran!
First Lutheran Church is hosting a fun and safe place in Mandan for our area youth to trick or
treat. Trunk or Treat will take place on Halloween night, Oct 31st in the church parking lot.
Please prayerfully consider all the ways you can help make our Second Annual Trunk or Treat
Night a huge success!
We need business sponsors. Please consider sponsoring your business or ask your place
of employment if they’d sponsor a “trunk”. Your business will decorate a car trunk with
your business name, along with staffing someone to hand out candy, provided by your
business, to the trick or treaters. If it’s not possible for you to participate in the event,
you can also send a monetary donation in your businesses name to use towards prizes
and candy for the children attending Trunk or Treat.
We need volunteers! This is a great evangelism outreach project for our church and its
success is dependent of volunteers. Would you like to hand out candy? Would you like to
be behind the scenes, hanging flyers up around town? Do you want to work in the
kitchen providing hot dogs and popcorn to the children? We will need a lot of helping
hands!
We need monetary donations to help defray the expense of food, candy and prizes. If
you’re not able to volunteer and would like to donate funds instead, thank you!
We need you to spread the WORD! Bring your kids to a safe place on Halloween night!
Let all your friends who have kids ages 0-12 know that we are hosting a Trunk or Treat
in the church parking lot on Halloween night from 5pm-8pm. All are welcome!
If you would like to participate, please contact the church office at 663-3594 for more
information. Watch the bulletins for more information and sign-up sheets!

Calling all 9th—12th Graders:
Be a part of planning the 2016 Mission
Trip!!!
Next Summer we will be working with a group called DOOR.
Through DOOR's Discover program, groups spend time serving with a
variety of local agencies and ministries and learning through evening
speakers and activities. The experience is about more than preparing
a meal at a soup kitchen or playing with children at a day camp. It is
an opportunity to work alongside local community members, to learn
from local leaders, and to listen to the stories of neighbors, clients, and
churches.
The people and stories may challenge your initial perceptions of the
city. But they reveal the ways that God is working. They will help you
to see the face of God in the city. Each day our youth will be doing
service oriented activates.
Possible sites include: Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Hollywood, Miami,
San Antonio …..
The cost would be $305 per person PLUS the cost of travel.
Help pick the sites! Our first meeting will be held on September 10th
at 7 P.M.

First Lutheran’s “Lunch at First” (LAF) program feeds about 425 of
our Mandan High School students each week during the school year!
It’s a ministry that has grown immensely over the past few years and
promises to grow into the future. It’s great to witness God working
through our volunteers as they serve and our young people as they are
served – all disciples of Jesus Christ!
As the numbers of young people served has grown, naturally so has
the budget for LAF – and we are currently running near our budget
limit for this year. It costs about $400 a week to feed these young
people – a cost of about $.95 cents per meal per student … a real
bargain!!
So, we are asking individuals, families, businesses and corporations
for some financial assistance as we move into the Fall. If you, your
family or business would like to sponsor a LAF meal – it would go a
long way toward funding LAF. Maybe a group of families would like
to sponsor a meal … and help serve it!! Whatever the case – let us
know and thank you in advance for your contribution toward bringing
Jesus’ command, “Feed my sheep …” to our high school students.

Expenses through April 2015 are down $33,589.01 due to having only 2 pastors. Due to the on-

cost less due to gifts and donations. The building fund has a positive balance. Dot questioned
where miscellaneous revenue comes from.
Unfinished Business: None
NEW BUSINESS:
Sunday evening service. Discussed format and vision for this service. We’ll use the Wednesday
format, have the service in the Fellowship Hall in the church basement, casual dress, contempo-
rary CD music with ice cream social to follow. The service will be the second Sunday of June,
July, and August at 7 P.M. Church and council members need to advertise and get the word
out. The service will be in the newsletter, on the church website, and Facebook page.
