    WHY CHOOSE MANCHESTER PRIMARY SCHOOL?

  • WELCOME TO MANCHESTER PRIMARY SCHOOL

It is a privilege to be the Principal of such a dynamic

and supportive School Community whose passion it is

to make education accessible, inclusive, and engaging

so that every student can thrive.

Our motto Inspire Engage Achieve sets the standard of

our instructional program where students are supported

and encouraged individually to strive to achieve their

    personal best.

    Peter Jenkins

    Principal

  • WELCOME TO MANCHESTER PRIMARY SCHOOL

Our belief at Manchester is that relationships are the corner stone for

success. Social and emotional development is as much a key for

student growth as academic success. Our student centred approach

continues to see exceptionally high levels of student engagement.

Our student connectedness is a feature of the caring environment

that exists at Manchester. We have a high percentage of students

with multi-cultural heritage. Something that is celebrated and

    cherished.

  • OPEN PLAN CLASSROOMS

Classrooms are open planned and there is a strong emphasis

on team teaching. Our teaching and learning goal aims to

maximise one on one teaching conferencing time to target

    every student’s point of learning.

  • OLD VS NEW

Education has been done pretty much the same way for 150 years. It is a true and tried approach that

successfully works for 75% of the Australian student population. We want it to be successful for 100%

“Let’s just teach more of the same way and hope results get better“

    Education Spending v Results

U.S. school spending up 375 percent over 30 years but test score remain flat

Why? Because we have not changed the way we deliver the message.

  • APPROACHES TO TEACHING AND LEARNING

What we do at Manchester that is different.

    Foundation-Grade 6 Implementing

    Developmental Learning Teaching Pedagogy

    And

    Visible Learning Teaching Approach

  • KATHY WALKER AND SOPHIE MURPHY

    • Highly Accredited Educational Experts from Victoria

    • Have academic and research background in child psychology and education

    • Use High Impact Teaching Strategies that have been developed and tested in Victorian Schools

  • THE DEVELOPMENTAL APPROACH

    Learning is structured.

    https://www.earlylife.com.au

Developmental Learning is a pedagogy NOT a program and NOT a tool.

It is a teaching and learning approach, developed with mentoring support

from Kathy Walker, that personalises learning (babies to Year 8) and is

    developmentally and culturally appropriate.

The Developmental Learning approach has an emphasis upon skill

development and acquisition of understandings and skills through a

balanced curriculum that seek to actively engage children in Investigations

and play as well as explicit teaching.

  • VISIBLE LEARNINGS

    • High Impact Teaching Strategy identified by Professor John Hattie Vic.

    Education Advisor

    • Visible Learning means an enhanced role for teachers as they

become evaluators of their own teaching.

    • According to John Hattie, Visible Learning and Teaching occurs when

teachers see learning through the eyes of students and help them

    become their own teachers.

    • Coaching and Mentoring teachers by Sophie Murphy

Keynote Speaker, Consultant, Teacher, Educational Coach, PhD Candidate under the

    supervision of Prof. John Hattie.

  • EDUCATION THEORY

It is not the "what" we teach but the "how" we teach that

makes the difference in effective learning and teaching.

  • EDUCATING CHILDREN TO MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES AND DECISIONS

    Intrinsic v Extrinsic Motivations

We want the students to be driven by Intrinsic motivators not governed by Extrinsic deterrants

We need to learn that we regulate our behaviour because it is the sensible way to act when part of a society

Example: When a child turns 18 years and is driving their car, if they have been educated using:

    • Intrinsic motivation - they are likely to drive down the road within the speed limit to keep themselves and their

    passengers safe.

    • Extrinsic motivation - they are likely to drive down the road within the speed limit because they believe there could be a

    speed camera down the road.

  • THE MANCHESTER PHILOSOPHY

    • We are committed to providing learning and teaching environments that maximise opportunities for every child to develop socially, emotionally,

academically and physically. We use evidence based Best Practice Teaching programs that are consistent from Prep to year 6 that target and track

every students point of learning and developmental growth.

    • We create an environment where staff and students collaborate in their learning, enabling everyone to reach their potential through an

innovative and negotiated curriculum that challenges and supports all members of the school community.

  • TEACHER FOCUSED AND CHILD CENTRED

    Planning and teaching is:

    • Intentional

    • Personalised

    • Open-ended

    • Visible

    • To empower children to investigate their world in an

ongoing process not inhibited or narrowed by "projects"

  • WHY WOULD YOU DO IT?

It is the educational approach of the future being implemented now.

    It makes Sense.

    It works.
