    OverviewOverview

    Spool requests are managed in the Output Controller,in which you can do the following:

    Print a spool request (send it to the host spooler for printing or output on other devices).

    Display detailed information on a spool request and alter attributes such as destination printer,number of copies, and priority.

    Display the data to be printed and download the data to a flat ASCII file.

    Display output requests and track the status of a job that is being printed.

    An output request is generated:

    When a spool request is submitted with the print-immediately attribute.

    Each time that a spool request is sent to a printer, fax machine, or other output device from thespool monitor.

    Before You BeginBefore You Begin

    All the steps in this chapter assume that at least one spool request has been generated. If you are usingthis chapter for practice or training, then follow the steps below to generate a test spool request.

    Generating a Test Spool RequestGenerating a Test Spool Request

    To generate a test spool request, you can go to any area in the system in which a list can be printed and

    then follow the menu path SystemListPrint. For specific instructions, follow the steps below:

    1. Enter the transaction /n STUN.

    2. Follow the path Setup/Buffers Buffers.

    3. Generate a test spool request byprinting the Tune Summary. To do

    so, follow the path SystemListPrint.

    4. Select an Output device.

    5. Since we want the print request toremain in the spool, ensure that thePrint immed. and Delete after printcheck-boxes are not checked.

    6. To generate the request, click onthe Printicon. The spool requestcan now be viewed and controlledin the Output Controller.

    7. Click the Exiticon twice to returnto the main menu.

    Error: Indicates a "hard" problem, such as a network problem. The output request could not be printed.The spool system retains such requests until you delete them or they age and are deleted by areorganization.

    1. Mark the check-box of the requestyou wish to display.

    2. Follow the path SpoolrequestDisplayor click on the Displayicon.

    The content of the spool request isdisplayed. In this example we areviewing the Tune summaryfrom thepreviously generated request.

    3. Enter an Output deviceor click onthe Possible Entriesicon for a list ofprinters.

    4. Enter the desired number of copies.

    5. If you would like to limit the rangeof pages printed, enter the startingand ending page numbers in thefrom pageand to pagefields.

    6. Click on the Printicon.

    7. To view the status of the outputrequest, mark the spool requestcheck-box and click on the Outputrequestbutton.

    Output request details includingthe current status are displayed.

    8. Click the Refreshicon to view thelatest status.

    9. To return to the Spool: Requestsscreen, click the Backicon.

    In the output controller, you can delete individual spool requests. Note that deletion does not affectoutput requests that have already been sent by the SAP spool system to the host spool system.

    1. To delete individual spool

    requests, mark the check-box(s) ofthe spool request(s) you wish todelete.

    2. Follow the path SpoolrequestDeleteor click on the Trashicon.

    3. To confirm that you want to deletethe spool request, click Yes.

    The request is deleted.

    You can delete spool requests in bulk according to expiration date or other criteria. Do this in the SpoolAdministrationwindow as follows:

    1. To go to the Spool Administration

    window, enter the transaction/nSPAD.

    2. Click on the Delete obsolete spoolrequestsbutton.

    3. To determine which requests willbe deleted, choose any combinationof the given options. For example,select option Old Spool requests thathave exceeded their life. The lifemeans that the age of the spool(e.g. two days).
