Welcome to our first issue of managing our emotions. This has been developed by School Counsellors (Bec and Lindy) in Orange to support school students during this unprecedented time, encouraging healthy mental wellbeing.

This issue is not exhaustive and attempts to focus on providing ideas to support students during a challenging time, where there is limited face-to-face psychological support.

WELCOME

Eckhart Tolle a German author and Speaker identified that acknowledging the good (no matter how small) leads to

abundance……..

Happy with what you have?

Happy with a nice photo, dinner with family, a cleared mind for online school work, a walk in the park/oval then……..

By taking a moment every day to STOP…… Think about what is going well in your life and…… The results won’t be just feeling better you will…… See more beauty and feel…… Happiness and be……. Accepting with…… More positivity providing an element of Being extra compassionate to others and ensure……. Connection with others through different methods and ……. Understand and accept other people’s behaviour more readily, and….. Appreciate the smaller things and start to be….. YOU and feel….. Every day gratitude- Thank You

DAILY RAYS OF HOPE AND POSITIVITY Here are some lovely questions to answer for each page in your diary/workbook. It is always more obvious to us when things go wrong, we also need to NOTICE those things that are good and working.

Attached is some lovely paper to write each question and answer to challenge your mind to focus and explore helpful thinking in a noticeable way

1. Post or Email to a friend something that you have created (poem, story, jewellery, drawing, art & craft, food etc) which brings colour and joy to your life

2. Close your eyes. What’s the nicest sound you know? Describe it, and try to hear it.

3. Take a photo that you like, with your phone/ipad/camera and glue it in your diary/workbook. Explain how it makes you feel.

4. Draw or describe someone you know that is often content (relaxed, happy, pleased, and unafraid)…….

5. List five characteristics of your favourite places at home….. 6. Find a recipe of the tastiest dish you have eaten and write it

down, enjoy cooking it (if you can) and describe the taste and how you felt eating the dish.

7. Jot down some things that you can do without and remember the nice things that your day drops in your lap…..

8. Create a narrative about the events in your life that helps you understand you.

9. Imagine and then write the things you are grateful for regarding family

10. Imagine your future self, explain what he/she looks like. 11. Explain the season of choice and why? 12. BEING YOU……remember…….take the time to explore

‘you’….reflect and write the best version of ‘you’.

BEING PRESENT, ACTING NOW, IN THE

MOMENT Trying to maintain a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a fostering a lens approach by tuning into what we're sensing in the present moment. We often call this mindfulness but let’s take it one step further and see if we really do focus and take notice of what is happening around us

Please watch the following YouTube links then rate yourself on how aware you were of your surroundings.

Additionally, you could notice the different sounds, colours, textures and shapes that are occurring right in this moment, around you !!!
