• 700 people a day are diagnosed with diabetes• 50% increase projected by 2025 (5 million)• Not taken seriously• Rarely a single morbidity• Has ghastly complications – amputations, blindness, kidney
failure…..

Seek first to understand, then to be understood
• Define the problem• Engage people to co create the solution• Look at the system as a whole
STOP, LOOK & LISTEN
• STOP – take a breath
• LOOK – stand back and observe the problem within the whole system
• LISTEN – stop pretending and really listen

• To be really listened to gives a real sense of affirmation, appreciation and of being understood.
• By applying ‘real listening’ you become vulnerable and in this lies the paradox……….
