The District is comprised of over 41,000 students and 5,000 employees in 90 schools and other sites. The job manages the delivery of maintenance services through the Supervisor, Maintenance Services and a team of trades and maintenance staff. The job is responsible for the coordination of maintenance and minor construction projects in district-owned schools, buildings, grounds and the associated infrastructure, through the use of unit staff or external contractors. The incumbent is also responsible for management of the unit’s budget. The primary focus of the role is to maintain safe and efficient learning and teaching environments. The job is part of the department’s management team and participates in long- and short-term strategic planning activities. This is a permanent, full-time, Out of Scope, Level 8 position with a salary range of $88,628.00 - $110,803.00 to commence as soon as possible. For the most part, solutions are found through precedents and existing policies, guidelines and procedures. Assistance is available from department managers and the director.

Supervisor, Maintenance Services

The job is responsible for overall maintenance of district owned buildings, grounds and associated infrastructure, through a team of district staff and or contracted services. The primary responsibility is assigning, delegating and evaluating work performed by to a district team and overseeing the work of contactors.

ORGANIZATIONAL DATA: Identify any measurable areas upon which the job has either direct or indirect impact. Measures that may be included are: number of staff supervised, annual operating budget, number and size of projects, clients served or any other significant values. Include examples that indicate the “size” of the job. Attach a complete Organization Chart that includes supervisor, peers, direct reports and staff.

The incumbent provides support to managers, supervisors and specialists on matters relating to maintenance requirements for buildings and associated infrastructure, work priorities, schedules, and delegation of maintenance work to staff or contractors to ensure buildings and grounds are maintained to provide a safe and healthy environment for students, staff and visitors. The job is accountable for maintenance of approximately 100 buildings, of which 90 are active schools. The service is delivered by approximately 55 employees with an annual budget of $7,000,000.00. The job ensures current district maintenance work practices, standards, and procedures are in place to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and with all other legislated code requirements are met to minimize the district’s exposure to present and future liabilities. Legislated requirements include; Alberta Building Code; Alberta Fire Code; Occupational Health and Safety Act, and associated Legislation. Because the district doesn’t have in-house expertise in some functional areas, contractors are secured to work on various projects. Contracted services may include general contractors and sub-trades. The job does not directly supervise contractors; however it has the authority to oversee projects, inspect, direct and provide feedback on the attainment of goals and plans. The job also serves as department representative on the monthly AUPE Liaison Meeting to discuss on-going issues, negotiation items and/or relevant successes in the area of employee relations.
