Keryln Carville RN, STN(Cred), PhD Professor Primary Health Care & Community Nursing. Silver Chain & Curtin University, Western Australia.
Keryln has extensive clinical experience and is committed to research and education within the domains of wound and ostomy care. Keryln was appointed an Inaugural Fellow of the Australian Wound Management Association in 2006. She is Chair of the Australian Pressure Injury Advisory Panel; Chair of the AWMA Australian Wound Standards Committee, Chair Pan Pacific Pressure Injury Alliance and Chair Evidence Committee International Wound Infection Institute. Keryln is an active participate in the Wound Innovation CRC Program 3, which is an Australian funded research pro-gram. She sits on the Editorial Boards of Wound Practice & Research and the Journal of Stomal Therapy Australia. She was awarded the WA Health Life Time Achievement Award for Nursing in 2010.

What do we need to know about hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)?

This 15 minute presentation will briefly outline the nature of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and the research evidence of its
efficacy in treating chronic, non-healing wounds. It will also discuss the potential contraindications and side effects of
treatment. The medical and nursing considerations in referring patients for assessment and treatment will also be cov-
ered.
