Database

• It is a centralized and integrated shared data file which consists of all data used by an organization.

• DBMS is a collection of programs that enable an organization to store, modify, and extract information from a database.

• Components of a DBMS are- Database administrator, Database users, Database Software, Database.

Database Models

• Hierarchical Model- The model presents data to users in a tree like structure or top down organization structure.

• Network Model-In this model many to many relationships can be represented instead of one to many.

• Relational Model- It is used to store the information in the form of a table which is a collection of Rows & Columns.

• It is a subject oriented, integrated, time variant and non-volatile collection of data in support of management’s decision making process.

• It refers to extracting or mining knowledge or large amount of data.

• Data Mining software uses mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze the data in warehouse which helps the manager to make strategic decisions to gain competitive advantage.

Centralized Processing

• Processing done at a central location. The processing is controlled through the main central computer( server).The clients (users) can request the server for any process.
