All the seven major and 75 suburban stationsin the Chennai division of Southern Railwaywill soon have well maintained toilets

According to Anupam Sharma (DivisionalRailway Manager), the contract system ofmaintaining the toilets has been modified froma revenue model to a no-profit-no-loss model.

He said that the decision was taken after theMadras High Court directed Southern Railwayto provide and maintain toilets in all stations.The order was passed following a PIL filed bythe activist group Satta Panchayat Iyakkam.

Surveys had exposed the lack or the poorcondition of toilets, especially in suburbanstations.

The park authorities never closethe gates after the closing hours, thereby giv-ing access for the boys to play cricket. Theymake a lot of noise and often get into fightscausing nuisance to the nearby residents.

They disturb the households by knocking onthe door at odd times to retrieve their ball afterhitting it into the compound or terrace. Itcauses lots of discomfort, especially to seniorcitizens.
