What Are Credit Ratings?

Credit ratings are used by wealth funds, pension funds and other investors to measure the credit worthiness of Malta, thus influencing the country's borrowing costs.

The credit rating is also important for foreign entrepreneurs who open a company in Malta.

What Agencies Have Rated Malta?

Moody’s, Fitch and Standard & Poor’s, which are three of the greatest credit rating agencies in the world have rated Malta with positive and stable outlooks.

All these agencies have issued ratings for Malta at the beginning of the year.

Investments in Malta

The Government has imposed high standards for investments which is why Malta’s ratings when it comes to investments are the same.

The Government has also included special paragraphs in its most important law on investments: The Investment Services Act.

Why Are Ratings Important For Malta?A good rating means attracting foreign investors to Malta, which is the main goal of the Government.

As a country with limited resources, Malta had to put in place laws that encourage foreign direct investments.

These laws have also determined internationally recognized agencies to offer Malta good ratings on investments, some of them presenting the small country as model of FDI.
