LEAD Pakistan welcomes new member to the Board of Governors Mrs. Khawar
Mumtaz who has been co-opted by the Board in the 41st Board Meeting held
at LEAD House.
Mrs. Khawar Mumtaz is an esteemed social development activist with a long
standing experience in the field of women’s rights advocacy. She has been
associated with Shirkat Gah as one of its three Coordinators since 1988. Her
expertise is in the area of women’s political empowerment, gender and devel-
opment, women and environment, reproductive health and rights and more

Basin-South Asia elected LEAD Pakistan as co-secretariat mem-
bers of the platform
The Basin-South Asia platform has elected LEAD Pakistan as its co-
secretariat members of the platform. Basin– South Asia has asked
LEAD Pakistan to provide strategic direction to the regional platform as
part of the Secretariat. LEAD Pakistan will also assist the secretariat in
the regular development and provision of knowledge products and ser-
vices.
The basin-South Asia Regional Knowledge Platform (basin-SA) was initiated in November 2004
with the mission of ‘developing knowledge systems and promoting collaborative action within
South Asia to enable access by the poor to sustainable habitat and livelihoods. Read More
Lead Pakistan had a strong presence at Delhi Sustainable Development Summit
The summit titled ‘Protecting the Global Commons: 20 years post Rio’
was a landmark event in the run-up to the Rio+20 Conference to be
held in June later this year. It took stock of what has been achieved and
what more urgently needs to be done to achieve ‘sustainable develop-
ment’. Lead Pakistan’s CEO Ali T Sheikh shared the stage with Heads of
State and experts from around the world to share his perspective and
opinion on this topic.
The Climate Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), which Lead Pakistan implements in Asia,
was a partner of the DSDS and ensured that the debate and discussion goes beyond the confer-
ence venue. CDKN supported the live online streaming of the event as well reporting and blogs

A One-Day Free Medical Camp organized by Sewa Development Trust Sindh (SDTS) with the fi-
nancial support of LEAD Pakistan, was held on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the Government
Primary School in Village Haji Gul Muhammad Bhatti, Union Council Fakirabad Taluka Kotdiji, and
District Khairpur. A total of 569 patients were treated and provided with free medical check-ups

Two-day workshop on Climate Asia Communication to be held in Islamabad
A two-day workshop on Climate Asia Communication being organized by BBC Media Action in col-
laboration with Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD) Pakistan will be held 20-21
March, 2012 at the Islamabad Club.
The purpose of the workshop is to share key insights on climate change and communications
more widely and to develop ideas for outputs that will benefit both audiences and communica-
