Utrecht is a beautiful city. Our city is wealthier and more popular than ever. But not every Utrechter benefits.

More than 12.000 children in our city grow up in poverty. In Overvecht the average life expectancy is 12 years shorter than in neighbouring Tuindorp. This is unacceptable, and it is avoidable. Our city spends millions on expensive prestige projects. At the same time, thousands of poor Utrechters now have hundreds of euros less to spend due to the policies of the current city government of D66, GroenLinks, VVD and SP.

It is nice that our city is popular, but that popularity has drawbacks. Utrecht has beco-me prohibitively expensive: houses for first time buyers cost hundreds of thousands of euros, waiting lists for social rental housing stretch to 14 years, and renting on the free market will easily cost 1000 euros a month. If we go on like this, Utrecht will become a city for the few, not the many.

Change is possible. How?• Invest in decent work and good poverty schemes. We will give back to the elderly

and to low-income families the extra allowance that the current city government has abolished.

• Build more social rental housing, affordable starter homes, and student flats. We will build for people, not for property developers.

• Organize personalized care in the neighbourhoods, and ensure extra support for everyone who needs it.

In this way, we take care that everybody can be sure of Utrecht.
