What Is Prediction?
O Making an educated guess about what is
going to happen in a story.
O Is based on good observation & inference.
O Prediction is based on what we observe
and also our past experiences.
What is Inference?
O A good guess about how something is
going to happen or what is going on.
O Inference is based on two things:
O Evidence
O Knowledge
How to Use Inference in Making Predictions
O Look for clues in a picture or story –
Notice Details!
O Think about what your experience tells
you – What information can you add that
is not in the picture or the story?
O Combine what you know with what you
looked at or read
How Does Prediction Aid Understanding?
OIt gets you in the “mind set” of a
story
OIt helps you focus on under-
standing a story so you can
determine if your prediction was
correct.
From Inference to Prediction
O Use what you saw or what you read.
O Add in what you know.
O Combine steps one and two
O Based on the above three steps – make a
prediction.
