At each stage in arts integration, teachers use strategies to encourage student engagement in the creative process, making connections, developing oral language and participating in academic discourse.

Stage 1: Thinking

Using the materials at your table, create your tree. Pay attention to the shape, texture, color. Will you use symbols,
abstract images, or geometric shapes?

Using open ended questions and prompts allows students to think critically about the artistic choices they made and to
critique the artwork of their peers.
