Meet the contributors…Making Cards Christmas Special 2015

CONTRIBUTORS

Emma Williams Christmas is always a busy time of year and for me the run up to the big day is one of the most exciting parts of the holiday. In preparation, I’ll decorate the house, make copious amounts of food and hit the

shops for those special presents which will need to be wrapped for placing under the tree. Then, come

Christmas Day, it will be all about relaxing, watching the Queen’s Speech and Downton Abbey and just

celebrating the rest of the holiday with my family. But one of the most important things I’ll be doing in the run up, is making beautiful cards for close family and this

year, I plan to create cards full of nostalgia of days gone by, using some of the wonderful new stamp and die

designs that have been released and incorporating the traditional colours of Christmas.

Dani Martin Christmas to me is a time of fun and sparkle, so I like my cards to reflect

that. I prefer to make just a few cards for special friends. I hope Christmas will be a happy one this year and a special

time for everyone.

Faye Wynn Jones I need about fifty Christmas Cards and they are

my least favourite to make! I really dislike making Christmas Cards in the summer when the weather

is gorgeous. It’s our son’s birthday at the beginning of December, and I don’t like Christmas things to happen

before that. So, along with my anti-Christmas-in-summer rule, I have about three weeks to prepare everything that’s needed, start to finish. Eek. Panic!

This is when my usually clean and simple card making style, gets really clean, although close family members

might get a sentiment too. After all that last minute rushing around, a quiet Christmas at home, relaxing in a big, cosy jumper with my loved ones close by is the perfect end to the year for me. I might even do some

colouring. Not Christmas related, of course...

Dee Paramour I love making my own Christmas cards.

Having been doing it for years I know exactly when to start, what I need and the sort of cards that my friends and family

will like. I am lucky enough to work closely with a number of crafting brands and so

am privileged to get to play with their new Christmas products first. It is always so exciting to see what they come out with and I never fail to be impressed. You will

see the work I produce with these brands in magazines and on television, having this as a job makes my

year yet alone Christmas.

Kitty Frampton I only make handmade cards for close

friends and family and I make them throughout the year so I really don’t feel the pressure and it’s not all last minute (Although I do always miss someone out and have to make a quick card!).

I have to be organised - Christmas is a busy time for me as I continue to make cards for Making Cards magazine, run

my shop and online craft shop and shop for my two very excited little girls!

Sarah Jackman-Read I used to make all of my Christmas cards but now I make so many in my job at docrafts that I tend to

just make for close family. My mum would be most upset if she didn’t get a handmade card although the

husband isn’t too bothered, he prefers something Star Wars related! I will be using the fabulous new Xcut shadow box Christmas dies for my makes as they are wonderful for mixing with any Christmas

range and look like you’ve spent hours on them when actually they’re really quick! My Christmas will be

very quiet as I have no kids although my pug Lottie is a massive kid and loves opening presents!

I will probably cook for my parents and husband and enjoy a nice walk on the beach afterwards.

Wendy Martin I would like to try and make all my cards

this year and not just for family and friends but for neighbours as well. I think

giving a handmade card gives a nice personal touch and makes Christmas

time more special. I would like my Christmas to be special this year, full of love, kindness and happiness and if it turns out to be a white Christmas too, what could be more special than that.

7 Add a small gem to either end of the border strip.

8 To create the insert; Cut the topper to 10x13.5cm and using a black ne

Fix the cards together, the back of the rst card on top of the back of the second and the front of the second on top of the front of the rst, creating a pocket and enabling the insert inside to move freely in and out.

2 Ink up the blending tool with Antique Linen Distress Ink and working from

your craft sheet move the tool in small circular motions towards the edge of the card. Apply a small amount of Picket Fence Distress Paint to your craft sheet and using your ngertip, run the paint intermittently along the edge of the card to create a worn, antique look to the card. Once the paint is dry, add faux stitching around the edge of the card using a black ne line pen.

3 Cut a piece of the poinsettia backing paper to 16cm square and using a

sewing machine, stitch around the edge of the paper with white cotton. Using a pair of scissors, run the blade of the scissors along the edge of the sewn paper to create a more distressed look and to make small tears and scu s in the paper.

4 Ink up the blending tool with Antique Linen Distress Ink and as

before, work from your craft sheet adding the ink to the distressed, ripped edges of the paper.

5 Cut a piece of pink card, 16.5cm square and using the blade of the scissors,
