As a rule of thumb…

You need…• Author Name• Title of source• Publication City• Publisher• Copyright date

First… Figure out what type of source you have

• Book• Short story• Journal• Magazine• Newspaper• Reference (dictionary, encyclopedia etc)• Web Page• Online Article

For Books…

• Author. Title. Publication City: Publisher, Copyright date.

• Marquart, James W., Sheldon Ekland Olson, and John R. Sorenson. The Rope, The Chair and the Needle. Austin: University of Texas Press, 1994.

For Websites….

Author (if given). “Title of web page or article.” Title of Web Site. Date it was posted or copyright date. Who owns the site. Access date <web address>
