Make Wellington your campusWellington is the destination of choice for smart, ambitious and imaginative students from all over the world.

Three world ranked universities, campuses of two institutes of technology, and more than ten independent tertiary providers reside within three kilometers of each other in Wellington City. Other education providers are connected to the city by an efficient public transport network.

Because Wellington is geographically compact it inspires collaboration between education providers, research institutions, the business community, and the New Zealand Government.

The city runs on smart people with around 50% of the working population in skilled employment. It’s not surprising then that Wellington has the highest number of research institutions, hosts the number one research university and has the highest proportion of tertiary educated people in New Zealand.

Practical learningThe Digital Media course I studied was developed in close association with New Zealand’s animation industry. Wellington has a close network of design and animation professionals who are easy to approach and are very generous sharing their experiences.

Compact cityYou can get to any part of the city by walking or by a short bus ride. The city has great public facilities and is surrounded by beautiful natural environment which is peaceful and a beautiful place to be creative.

Top five things to do:1. Hot coffee on a winter’s day2. Walk around the waterfront3. Take a train to Waikanae4. Take the ferry to Eastbourne5. The Botanical Gardens

in spring

WeekendsI usually go for a walk around the city with a sketchbook and look for new restaurants or cafés. I always go to the Sunday farmers’ market on the waterfront to stock up on my fruit and vegetables for the week. Just about everyone else in Wellington is there as well! If I feel like Japanese food, I would recommend Kazu Yakitori and Sake Bar and Tatsushi for a taste of home!

Why WellingtonI came here originally to study at university, but didn’t have a plan to stay. As my studies progressed, I fell in love with the city. It’s a relaxed and vibrant city, and the people here are very friendly.

EducationIn New Zealand, education is very dynamic with ideas shared and debated in lectures, tutorials, and in study groups. Students are expected to participate and contribute their arguments rather than just reproduce those of the lecturer.

Why Wellington:1. Great people2. Fantastic city to work in if your

work is in the ICT industry3. Restaurants from almost every

country in the world and all close together in the city

4. Outdoors! I’m a mountain biker and there is an amazing network of trails around the city

5. The relaxed atmosphere of the city

Biggest difference between Wellington and VietnamThe houses! The most popular construction in Wellington are wooden buildings and they are relatively old (some houses were built in the 19th century). Houses in Vietnam are relatively new and are built from brick and mortar.

My favorite things:Café: Dixon Street Deli – good coffee, gourmet pastries and sweets!Bar: The Library – you can read books there, but most people enjoy a cocktail!International food: Shanghai Kitchen in Petone. Entertainment activity: Join Wellington ‘Meetups’ to meet creative people! Street: Cuba Street – Enjoy the street performances, boutiques and cafés.Tourism: Take the Cable Car up to the Botanical Gardens and walk back down to the city.

What is your favorite Wellington secret? For fellow non-drivers, take the No. 14 bus from Kilbirnie to the City and enjoy the magnificent view of the harbor when it drives down Mt. Victoria and makes a sharp turn into Oriental Bay. Who thought taking a bus could be such a pleasure!
