Make Us Dream For A Short While

Last season was bound to be an impending doom a tiring Steven Gerrard, a genius in Luis Suarez and the potential beaming through the Kop. See, Gerrards legs may be giving way, however his heart will never die for the club and the title chase certainly propelled that. A Premier League title edged closer each week, hailing the inspirational team for their performances but being forever etched as the most embarrassing performance by a title contending Premier League club hurts the most.

It all started with the 0-2 defeat to Chelsea, and quite literally slipping through Chelseas strikers. It was the skipper that fell to the ground, not only with a thump but with the sorrow of watching the trophy been given away. Quite seriously it was a mix up between Gerrard and Mamadou Gazelle Sakho, who wanted to pass the ball across his own box, with the intent of getting a Premier League trophy this would be the last thing on your mind, things got worse minutes later when Spaniard Iago Aspas took the most distressing corner of the century which doubled the Blues lead. Liverpool were slowly racking their way up to making a mountain out of a mole hill but this was the first stepping stone towards heartache, and Jose Mourinhos bus kept on running.

Back at Norwich high spirits were amongst the fortunate getting to play alongside Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez was in high prime against the team he constantly destroys. For Gerrard, it was a gentle game, letting his players do the work around him as he became the translucent God of football once again. Norwich were expressing their frustration at a relegation battle, but after the Chelsea defeat, the push for the title was well and truly on. The game ended in a 3-2 heart pumping victory, and the Make Us Dream fascination grew confidence. A cup final it was, uttered the captain, which coincided with the previous quote of We have got to treat Norwich like we treated AC Milan in 2005. Thats just how football is, we cant think about what colour shirts Norwich are wearing (highly doubtful its Fred Perry) weve got to treat them like the best team in the world.

Hysteria, panic, excitement, disappointment a few words to sum up the whole season. Norwich was the second to last game before Liverpool were claimed as unsatisfying runners up. And its not every day you see the worlds most famous captain burst into tears. Quite like the Titanic, we went down, and fast, women, men and children all struggling to stay positive and let the dream continue in their heads.

Although, there was one more game to go and it didnt stop the Reds playing for their pride what was left of it anyway. The fans gathered in their thousands as a 2-0 triumph over Newcastle put Liverpool in a respectable second place, the vice captain and Daniel Sturridge sealed the deal in the end and that was it, a dream that was short lived due to the unfortunate events heeded by the team that made us dream for a short while.

Through this season Gerrard has been a diamond in the rough and a strong talisman. Weve seen the captain in just a thermal vest against Fulham, kissing the camera against Manchester United and leading the team out to some incredible victories.

So at the end of the season I have to sit back and think, if I was Steven Gerrards wife how would I feel returning home to Steven Gerrard after watching him play in the bewitching stadium known as Anfield? Pretty great to be fair, but after the recent slip of events Im glad Im a football maniac with an understanding boyfriend who sits a nice 86 miles from Merseyside.

Youll Never Walk Alone, Steven Gerrard.
