Eventually I took the next step and started developing a website that sold stock photos, and the few extra hundreds a month turned into thousands of dollars.

After all, if it’s something that you’re already spending time on, you might as well make money out of it. There are plenty of ways to monetize your hobby. It can be as simple as putting up a website or blog and writing about it then adding affiliate links for visitors to click. Or, if it’s something like writing, you can take on freelance writing jobs. Better yet, you can write an eBook and publish it online, making it available in websites like Amazon.com. Or it can be a combination of writing and another hobby; if you’re into painting, you can write an eBook on how to paint and market it online.

Learning how to make extra money online is a lot easier than you think. The internet today is like a gold mine where just about everything can be monetized, even small things like your love for cooking or dogs. The key to succeeding in it is by choosing a niche that you can be an expert in (like your hobby) and exploring your opportunities with that niche in mind. If, say, you’re particularly experienced in training dogs to behave better, you can make a series of videos, post it on a website, then link your website to doggie products that will pay you for every click you can get for them. Or do away with the middleman completely; sell the products yourself. With the internet, anything is possible and your imagination really is the limit.

There are plenty of people who also fail at making money online because their content just isn’t that great. They try to penetrate the niches that they think are popular instead of finding niches that they know they’re good at and can be considered experts in.
