An Evacuation Plan to Plan Ahead

In our post on Fire Safety, we mentioned that you should have an evacuation plan. If you are disorganized in trying to escape your home in case of a disaster, you put yourself and your family at risk. Some disasters will allow you some time to get ready. We know here in Los Angeles that earthquakes do not, so you need to plan ahead. Follow these guidelines for a safe, effective, and efficient evacuation.

□ Meeting Place in Your Evacuation Plan□ Pick places both inside and outside your immediate neighborhood .

□ Keep Your Tank Full□ Always keep at least half a tank in your car in case of emergency

evacuation.

□ Multiple Routes□ Make sure all family members know of alternative routes .

□ Pedestrian Evacuation Plan□ If you do not have a car, make plans with neighbors, friends, or

relatives for your evacuation.

□ Leave Early in Case of an Evacuation□ Having a plan will help you leave early to avoid the rush
