The torque transducers may be mounted inany position. In the case of horizontalmounting, make sure that the installed flangedplug is not pointed downwards. The transfer ofthe torque is by frictional joints at the bothends of the shaft.

1. Mounting Position

Page 10: Maintenance Power Point Show

2. Fastening the housing

The torque transducers have very little bearingfriction. Therefore, it is sufficient to secure thehousing against co-rotation. For this purpose,

there is an M4 threaded bore in the housing intowhich an appropriate stop (e.g. a threaded rod)can be screwed. The transducers with measuring

ranges of 100Nm and 200Nm have no suchthreaded bore.

Page 11: Maintenance Power Point Show

The nominal torques may be staticallyexceeded by max. 50%. If the nominal torqueis exceeded, additional irregular loading is

not permissible; this refers to longitudinalforces, lateral forces and bending moments.

Maintenance:

The torque meter is to a large extent designed tobe maintenance free. Only the slip rings andcarbon brushes are subject to slight wear, whichmust be monitored. For reasons of functionalsafety, the carbon brush dust should be removedfrom the housing of the transducer. To do this,

remove the cover screwed on at the side andcarefully remove the carbon dust or dirt presentusing a fine brush and dry compressed air.

Viscometer

A viscometer (also called viscosimeter ) is aninstrument used to measure the viscosity of

a fluid. For liquids with viscosities which varywith flow conditions, an instrument called arheometer is used. Viscometers only measureunder one flow condition.

Testing:

The process of choosing a spindle and rotationalspeed for use with your viscometer is ultimately

one of trial and error. This will help to ensure testresults are accurate and repeatable. Theobjective is to choose a spindle that will produce adial or digital display reading between 10% and100% torque. You can check the accuracy of yourViscometer by performing a calibration check.

a ntenance:

There are three different methods for

cleaning the internal components ofViscometer. The Clean-in-Place method, whichis typically used, provides minimal downtime

and effective cleansing of the viscometerduring process system cleaning. The Flushingmethod is used when additional internalviscometer cleansing is required. TheDisassembly and Cleaning method is usedwhen the process system is seriouslycontaminated and the viscometer cannototherwise be cleaned.

PH Meter

A pH meter is an electronic instrument usedfor measuring the pH (acidityor alkalinity) of aliquid (though special probes are sometimes

used to measure the pH of semi-solidsubstances). A typical pH meter consists of aspecial measuring probe (a glass electrode )connected to an electronic meter thatmeasures and displays the pH reading.

Page 20: Maintenance Power Point Show

1. Set the pH/mV switch on the pH meter to

the mV position.

2. Connect a shorting plug to the input on thepH meter, or connect a precision mV generatorwith a 0 mV input. Adjust the standardize/zerocontrol on the pH meter for a reading equal to0.0 mV.

3. Disconnect the shorting plug/precision mVgenerator, and connect the electrode that will

be tested.

Page 21: Maintenance Power Point Show

4. Insert the electrode and the ATC (automatictemperature compensator) in 7.00 pH buffersolution. Allow 30 seconds for the electrode/ATCto reach thermal equilibrium with the buffersolution. Record the polarity and the mV reading. This is the asymmetry potential of the electrode.A perfect electrode would have an A.P equal to 0

mV, but most electrodes read between ±30 mV.

Regular cleaning will maximize electrode

performance and ensure a longer working life. Somesuitable cleaners are:

• Organic contamination - use mild liquid detergent, acetone*, methylated spirit or toluol*. If toluol isnecessary, rinse subsequently with acetone ormethylated spirits and finally water.

• Inorganic contamination – use dilute nitric orhydrochloric acid.

Testing :

In order to ensure the safe and accurateoperation of Portable Gas Detectors, they needto be periodically calibrated against reference

test gases that are traceable to NationalPhysical Laboratory standards. Therecommended calibration period for Status

Scientific Controls gas detectors is six monthsalthough the frequency may need to be increasedwhere continual exposure to the target gases is

experienced.

Page 52: Maintenance Power Point Show

Smoke Detector

A smoke detector is a device that detectssmoke, typically as an indicator of fire.Commercial, industrial, and mass residential

devices issue a signal to a fire alarm system ,while household detectors, known as smokealarms, generally issue a local audible and/orvisual alarm from the detector itself.
