Importing enhancement packagesAs of SP 12, the Maintenance Optimizer can help with the installation of enhancement packages. When you select the enhancement package files for download, the Maintenance Optimizer automatically generates an XML-based configuration file containing installation information used by the import tool. Since SAP ERP enhancements packages are add-ons to the ABAP stack, to import these you use the SAP-provided Add-On Installation Tool (SAINT). Let’s take a brief look at how this works.

Go to transaction SAINT, click on Start, and then click on Stack Configuration. The system will then check the XML configuration file created by MOPZ and stored in the Solution Manager database, select the required packages automatically, and display the selected files based on the information in the XML file, as shown in the screenshot below.

Depending on the technical uses you selected for installation in MOPZ, SAINT offers the required add-ons for installation, as well as the required support packages for the software components installed in your landscape. Cick on Continue to start the automatic calculation of the import queue and the installation procedure.

As you can see, enhancement packages and MOPZ together offer a much simpler and easier way to take advantage of new SAP ERP business functions — instead of a drawn-out upgrade process, you simply download and apply the necessary packages using the guided MOPZ procedure.
