MAINTAINING ISO50001 ISO50001 is an International Standard that specifies requirements to:

• Ensure a structured approach to Energy Management

• Establishes targets and performance levels

• Prioritise projects for optimum saving

• Promotes responsibility and ownership amongst all staff

• Saves the company money (innovation, design, projects, identifying waste)

Challenges

• How do we continue to improve when ‘low hanging fruit’ has been picked?

• How do we expand the facility while reducing our baseload?

• How do we ensure that energy efficiency is a corporate priority?

• How do we ensure that the importance and impact of people onsite is understood?

• How do we develop a culture of Energy Awareness?

• How do we maintain the system and minimise documentation?

SERVIER-VEOLIA HISTORY January 2003 Servier award Dalkia (now Veolia) the Utilities Maintenance contract

Energy projects completed onsite ‘Low Hanging Fruit’

• Oil to Gas Conversion 2003

• Variable Speed Drives 2005

• Air Change Reduction 2009

• Water Usage Reduction 2010

Management drive to structure approach to Energy Management and Procurement

• ISO50001 Certified July 2012

• ISO50001 Surveillance Audit Dec 2013

• ISO50001 Re-Certification May 2014

Note:

• Factory has quadrupled in size since 2003

• Utilities consume majority of the Energy onsite

• Energy Prices have been increasing

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE The Veolia Technicians preventative maintenance checks have taken on an increased

importance. Not only is Quality, Safety and Environmental impact considered but Energy

consumption is directly related.

TARGETS & PROJECTS Energy Baseline Review (Clause 4.4.4)

• Define the starting point and use a basis for comparison for future consumption

• Determine what users make up the baseload

• Analysing the baseload to see where it can be reduced

Identifying/Managing Projects & Project verification

• Encourages you to make energy usage lean and reduce baseload to minimum levels

• Projects based on energy usage before it has been reduced to a minimum will lead to oversized equipment

• Reduce energy consumption then look at Energy projects

Energy Performance Indicators (Clause 4.4.5).

• Establish relationships

• Apply high/low usage limits

• We continuously work on developing EPIs

Energy Objectives and Targets

• Determine factors effecting consumption

• Set targets for year ahead based on what you know at the time. Things will change

Energy Tendering

• Understand your usage and usage profile using 15minute data from provider.

• Analyse the offers that best suit your usage profile

MAINTAINING ISO50001 Servier has benefitted by being part of the SEAI Large Industry Energy Network (LIEN)

Members have access to LIEN's energy expertise and knowledge.

An SEAI Energy consultant was available for 8 days per year as part of the scheme

This helped us when applying for the standard as we could:

• Ensure we were interpreting the standard correctly

• Complete gap analysis between our system and the standard with an expert

• We could review our systems and procedures with an expert in advance of an audit

Page 13: MAINTAINING ISO50001 AT SERVIER

SUCCESS Production increasing but energy consumption reducing

WHAT ISO50001 MEANS TO SERVIER Compliments and builds on our existing systems

• ISO 14001: Environmental (in place since 2005)

• OHSAS 18001: Safety (in place since 2007)

• Small Smart Ideas (Servier Initiative)

• Site performance Improvement (SPI) (Servier Initiative)

• Continuous improvement

• Standard saves money for the company increasing competitiveness

ISO50001 SAVING MONEY

Page 16: MAINTAINING ISO50001 AT SERVIER

WHAT ISO50001 MEANS TO VEOLIA At Servier, maintenance of the ISO50001 standard is part of our role onsite. There are

several systems and processes that support the standard that need to be followed and

maintained.

The Utility Systems account for the majority of the total energy consumed onsite. Veolia

maintain these systems ensuring uptime and efficiency therefore the whole team have an

influence on the site consumption.

Servier and Veolia have shared their learning with other sites and are assisting them in

applying for ISO50001 certification.

Industry demand for ISO50001

• Structured approach to energy management and continuous improvement

• The standard saves money

• Energy based contract opportunities
