Commodore’s Comments: This past week the social scene continued on the water with a fun Flotilla Party, hosted by the Wises. Thanks Gail and Dick! As you can see from the photo, it was a fun time. This weekend the MC action moves to Upper Lake, followed by the MC Fleet Party hosted by the Dorns. Steve Rotier has been sighted prac-ticing on Upper Lake. He has stated that he intends to up-hold the honor for all of us who live on Upper Lake! Good luck to all! Also remember our Wednesday night cookouts are still going strong. Mark your calendar to be at the club each Wednesday in August. The meals are a great value and the company is even better. The only thing hotter than the weather has been our X sail-ors. The results have been outstanding. Sailors, parents and LBSS Instructors have represented Lake Beulah well, on and off the water. Thank you and Congratulations! I'd like to thank all our volunteer race officials. Led by Vice-Commodore, Julie Haeger, your work has been out-standing!
Thank you to all who have already given to the LBSS Lease Fund Drive. This is a Win/Win lease agreement for both organizations! Please give this your most serious con-sideration. Great sailing, Great parties and Great friends; Lake Beulah
is the place to be! Jay Hiller Jay Hiller Jay Hiller Jay Hiller

FROM THE SAILING COMMODORE
It's been an eventful sum-
mer of sailing thus far but it seems like feast or famine with the
wind. Our PRO's, people on the
Chase boat, and Signal boat teams
have done a great job of being timely
and making good decisions. This in
turn helps the Sailing Commodore's
job look easy! Thank you to all who
have volunteered your time.
Our youth have been busy. GLSS
X had Beulah in the spotlight. Charlie
Kutschenreuter and Alex Keck in the
B-16 took top honors followed by B-
66 in 6th, B-11 in 9th, B-60 in 10th
out of the 48 boat fleet. Next they
brought their Optis and Lasers to
GLSS Dinghyfest. In the Opti fleet,
Alex Bischoff finished 3rd, John Barr
5th, Alex Keck 8th, and Patrick
Schmidt 9th. The C's were in Fond
du Lac for the C Invite where our
own Commodore in the B-88 finished
3rd, the B-333 was fourth, B-22 fifth,
and the B-12 finished 11th. Mary
Claire Kiernan and Kate Klement and
Teresa Westin sailed 420's in at the
Ida Lewis Regatta in New Jersey
and 420 Nationals which were held in
Chicago. The girls made Beulah
proud and gained valuable experi-
ence in some trying conditions. Off
the X's went again to Oshkosh to the
X-treme regatta. George Kiernan
and Eric Komas in the B-21 took top
honors here, followed by the B-19 in
third, the B-6 in fifth, and the B-7 in
9th. John Barr with crew Gabe DiBi-
ase won their first race! Without time
to breathe, the brave X parents were
off to Nagawicka for the WYA. The
wind was light but Beulah was proud
once again with the finishes of our
young fleet. The B-6 was second, B-
16 finished third, B-11 was forth, and
the B-19 was fifth. Both the B-1 and
the B-6 won races. The X's will finish
up their regatta season in Clear Lake
Iowa at the Inland. Good luck and
congratulations to all who have trav-
eled to represent our club at these
events.
This coming weekend, the MC's
have their Upper Lake regatta on
Saturday. Tom Atkinson will judge
this fun three race event. If you get a
chance, visit the action. It should
prove to be fun!
The Chase boat is still a work in
progress. Please remember to use
radios to alert the Chase boat if a
boat is in need of assistance. Also,
after using the Chase boat on Satur-
day or Sunday evenings, please be
sure to put the keys into the lock box
of keys on the pontoon boat. This
makes it easy for the next user to
have easy access to them. Also,
please be mindful to respect the
space between piers and rafts when
sailing.
Enclosed in this issue of the Main-
sheet, is a DRAFT of the family sail
numbers. This draft was compiled
through records in the yearbooks
(thank you Bill Hudson!). Please look
over this draft and call or email with
any comments as soon as possible.
The end of the sailing season is a
busy time for all of us. Please plan
ahead and get those trophies en-
graved and polished up as soon as
possible! You can drop off pol-
ished trophies either in the office
(not the Sailing School room) or at
my house when they're ready.
Enjoy the rest of the season! Sail
smart, sail
fast!

Still time to rsvp for the MC Fleet Party at Dorn’s
$15 Sunday, July 31st,

Ashley Mueller was proud of her black eye at the July 20th Cookout. The Green Fleeter said that she got hit with the boom, but she didn’t care! She couldn’t wait to go back out there the next day. Go for it!
It's Luffable - Opti Observations At the ILYA No Tears regatta a little girl was 40 yards from the finish line when the wind died. She was heard asking the obvious, “Can I use my pad-dle?” Another competitor was seen actually pad-dling with her hands! That’s solving the problem, girls!
Jonah Boykin’s mom, Julie, was watching him sail and said, “I know there’s something wrong with Jo-nah’s boat.” Andrea Jarecki assured her that his sail looked good and he was fine. No sooner had she said it when Jonah immediately tipped over. The two mom’s couldn’t help but laugh hysterically! Due to the 2 mph winds, Jonah was back up so fast that he didn’t even loose a boat. Kids are so funny.

Smiling at No Tears Reported by Andrea Jarecki and edited by Joe Skotarzak
Monday, July 25th, was the annual ILYA No Tears event, where the greenest of the Green Fleeters get some regatta experience. This year Beaver Lake hosted the event and there were almost a hundred twerps up there rockin’ their optis. The group gets divided and on the Senior course there were 35 or so boats, while the Junior fleet had around 44! All in all everything went great. Beulah brought it strong with five young’uns making the trek – we had a full house of A’s full of J’s – Annie Berg and the “Auger” and newcomer Alex Rietz plus Jada and Jonah Boykin! Sunday evening post-race they loaded up their yots
onto the LBSS trailer for the early Monday trip north. George Kutsch was on hand to coach and help both racers and parents through the day as well as with the unloading and loading. Over on the Senior course a total of three races were sailed and Jada finished 5th over-all! The Junior side had the other four Beulah boats and there was much excitement! Espe-cially in Race 2, which the Auger took the bullet for! Augie Jarecki ended up in 6th overall while Annie Berg got 10th! Alex, in his first-ever regatta experience, and Jonah both had moments of brilliance and finished just back. All in all a very successful day – as one of the Beulah adults was heard to mention “Gratifying to see that they did well, even though they look relatively clueless sometimes on the home lake.” Nice work, kids!

Wednesday nights are up to 130+. It’s amazing to see what folks cook up and how happy our volunteers serve. Can’t wait for the first corn of the year! Someone will tackle it. Wednesday nights go through the end of August with our final Football Cookout which is always the annual Hardy Will birthday party. Get your Packer/Bears gear ready and be sure to tell Atkinson how to make his hot-dogs – ketchup or mustard, pickles or cucumbers. It’s not authentic unless you eat an Atkinson dog. Try it his way – it’s great! Youth nights resume August 4. Thanks in advance to the Mikacich and Komas family. We have a rental August 6th and then we gear up with three weekends in a
row. The Musical Potluck on Aug 13th will require reservations via email or a phone call to Nancy Roble. The potluck will be catered now. We are keeping the potluck name but come empty handed and we will supply the food. Did you know “potluckers” used to bring their own silverware and din-nerware in the old clubhouse? There was nothing like all the homemade goods – enjoy the chicken casserole, salad, bread and dessert. Add the mu-sical stylings of Don Franzene and Milt Haeger– what could be better? The Commodore’s Ball invitations are out. The caterer is Heaven City and they promise a great meal. I wouldn’t want to be Goober on August 20th. His best (?) friends have been planning his roast for months. Seems
they have a lot of material. The Ball is at the club, so join us for a nice event. The Taco buffet will be a new event for us. More on that next Mainsheet. Thanks for your support. I hate to say,
“Drink up!” but that pesky Board
seems to think we need to make some
money at the bar. The wine selections
are plentiful this year. Thanks to Joe
Sko for his many hours of work at the
bar. He makes it fun to be there. Join
him. Candace PorterCandace PorterCandace PorterCandace Porter

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE LBYC
Oshkosh X-treme by George Kiernan Twelve X boat teams represented
LBYC at Lake Winnebago on July 18
and July 19 for the annual Oshkosh
X-treme Regatta. The first race of
the regatta brought strong winds
and Riley Schmidt/Sarah Kubicek
took the race bullet followed in sec-
ond by George Kiernan/Eric Komas
(see photo above), third by Scott/Erin
Sullivan and fourth by Cullen Barr/
John Berg. In the second race,
B-66 and the B-21 battled for
the lead the whole race but
then on the last leg of the race
they lost the win at to A-169
Alie Rusher who took the bullet
and the best Beulah boat in
that race was Michael/Brigit
Barr finishing in 5th followed by
George Kiernan/ Eric Komas in
7th. The 3rd and final race of
the day was won by no other
than John Barr/Gabe Dibiasis.
For Gabe it was a great way to
cap off his inaugural season in
the X fleet. Other top finishes in
the 3rd race included George
Kiernan/Eric Komas in 3rd and
Riley Schmidt/Sarah Kubicek in
4th. After a long hot day sailing
the competitors were ready for
the Casino Night Party. The
party was fun and everyone left
the party at its conclusion ex-
hausted after the long hot day.
The second day of the regatta was a
day of scorching heat and no wind.
The judges were very wise and very
kind and kept the fleet on the shore
until it was determined that there was
no choice but to sound the three long
horns. Beulah showed strong at the
regatta with George Kiernan/Eric Ko-
mas winning the X-treme, Scott/Erin
Sullivan 3rd place, Cullen Barr/John
Berg 5th place, and Riley Schmidt/
Sarah Kubicek, 9th place to round out
Beulah in the top ten.
Swarm of “B’s” take WYA at Nagawicka By Joe Sko The WYA X regatta on the July 22-
24th weekend had 64 participants from
the various lakes including a dozen or
so from Beulah. The forecast was
pretty crummy but Saturday dawned
beautiful with nice breezes on Na-
gawicka. The group assembled and
away they went! Like a thoroughbred
favorite making the way to the rail at
the Kentucky Derby, MC (Mary Claire
Kiernan) and Nora started clean and
fast and worked the middle and made
it to the lead by the top mark. From
there they sailed nothing short of bril-
liantly the rest of the way, as they
pulled away and extended their lead
at each rounding. It was truly a thing
of beauty and they won the first race
going away. A slew of other Beulah
boats in the top group as well. Race
two started shortly thereafter and,
squarely in the ‘apple doesn’t fall far
from the tree’ department, Cullen Barr
with John Berg aboard was almost all
alone down the far port end of the
line. Sure enough, off they went like
launched out of a cannon! There was
some wrangling back and forth until B-
6 took full control on a subsequent
beat and pulled away for a serious
horizon job to take another Beulah
bullet! Showing that almost anything
she can do he can do almost as well,
brother, George Kiernan and Charlie
Kutschenreuter put on a highly spirited
duel to the finish for 3rd place, with 16
crossing the line just feet ahead of the
21 with Scott Sullivan and Olivia just
behind them. In for lunch, and that
ended up being all the sailing that
there was to be done on Saturday. At
the end of the day Charlie and Alex
led the fleet by virtue of their 6-3 con-
sistency as the fleet was a bit all over
the map. Sunday morning, one race
was completed and it ended up being
more than just a little bit crapshootish,
and some kid from Okauchee snuck in
to take the title. That kid was followed
in order by a swarm of B’s – 6 then 16
(who tied for 2nd
) and 11 and 19
(who tied for fourth, with Andrea
and Darby showing the power of
girls in taking the tiebreaker after
finishing the last race 3rd, and also
taking the Top Female award). Four
out of the top five, with a slew of other
good race finishes. All in all a fine
Beulah showing!

Exciting 420 Sailing By Jeff Hudson
Earlier this month, four Beulah belles
set out to compete with trapeze and
spinnakers in two National Club 420
regattas. First up was the U.S. Junior
Women's Double-handed Champi-
onship for the Ida Lewis Trophy
hosted by Mantoloking Yacht Club and
Bay Head Yacht Club in New Jersey.
Despite strong 15 to 20 knot winds,
Mary Claire Kiernan and Olivia
Healy fought to finish 15th overall
out of 40 teams. Kate Klement and
Teresa Westin finished 18th. High-
light race of the event was race 4 in
which Mary Claire and Kate finished
3rd and 4
th, respectively. Isabella
Loosbrock / Madeleine Loosbrock of
Minnetonka finished 10th overall, Addy
Ferguson / Hayley Jewett of Minne-
tonka finished 11th, and Leslie Poole/
Elizabeth Foulston of Lake Geneva
finished 25th. The regatta was won by
Sarah Williams and Ali Blumenthal
from the host yacht club in New Jersey
and members of I-420 Team USA.
The following weekend, the ladies
travelled to Wilmette, Illinois to com-
pete in the Club 420 Nationals hosted
by Sheridan Shore Yacht Club. De-
spite sailing against seventy one
teams over three of the hottest day of
the summer, the ladies represented
our club well. Kiernan/Healy finished
37th while Klement/Westin finished
52nd. Next up for Kiernan and Healy
is a return to X boats, but the future is
bright for our Club 420 sailors.

Why not LBYC emails to each family member?
Wondering what to do about all these emails you receive
from the club? The website works best when an email ad-
dress is listed for each member. All members, children in-
cluded, have an individual profile. To exclude your children
from receiving the emails, go to your individual profile and
unclick the box designating email receipts. DO NOT ERASE
THE EMAIL ADDRESS. The program generates labels for
the Mainsheet based on those who do not have an email list-
ing. Fortunately there are only 5 of you without email. If this
all sounds too complicated, just email Candace and she will
delete the ability to receive emails for your children.
