Our Out of School and Holiday Clubphilosophy is all about a child’s need toplay. Play is a biological, psychologicaland social necessity and is fundamental
to the healthy development and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
At Shelf Out of School Club play is aprocess that is freely chosen, personallydirected and intrinsically motivated. Thatis, our children determine and control the
content and intent of their play, byfollowing their own instincts, ideas andinterests, in their own way for their ownreasons. Children lead the planning at
Shelf Out of School Club and they tell uswhat fun activities they would like to do,
which makes for some fun times!
Our Childcare Practitioners prime focus isto support and facilitate the play process.

Chairman’s Ramblings…Hi Everyone,
Recently I was just looking through a few old programmes in preparations for this year’s
ramblings and realised that I had been on the committee for 22 years and 10 of those as
Chairman. The ramblings were first published in the 1997 programme by John Emmett where
he talked about the 1996 Shelf Gala where it made a grand total of £1,794, of which £1,600 was
donated to local charities and in a rough calculation approximately £10,000 had been donated
over the last 23 years. Last year (2013) the donations were just short of £5,000 made to 23
recipients which is a great achievement for a local village gala.
A lot of things have changed in those years: the committee members, some have come and
some have gone but the committee’s dedication to making this gala a success has never
diminished and hopefully Shelf Gala will continue for years to come.
The programme has grown from 16 pages printed in two colours in 1994 to currently 64 pages
with 32 pages full colour and supported by some great and generous local business who have
supported us over the years both in sponsorship and advertising. Please support them by using
their services.
Other things have changed over the last few years in respect of organising and running a gala.
There is a lot more red tape and form filling in respect of health and safety, first aid, security,
insurance and road closures etc. This year, for the first time, we have had to use the services of a
Traffic Management Company to oversee the rolling road block we need for the procession.
This adds another substantial cost to our budget. In previous years we have had the services of
the police at no cost. Maybe it’s because of the Tour de France passing through our district on
the same weekend and all police officers are deployed on that event. We will have to wait
and see.
The weather always gets a mention. 2013 was a brilliant day and it continued for a fortnight after.
That would have been some gala though I don’t think out committee could stand the pace. We
hope and pray that this year will be as good but we don’t have any control over the weather!!
This year in the arena we have for your entertainment a local young group on stage, THE VOID
(see facing page), we have The IMPERIAL CRUSADERS, a local marching band, a Falconry
display by another local organisation FALCONRY LIFE and dance routines by DANCE
STARS and STREET STARS, Outside the arena all the usual attractions: Tea Tent, Beer Tent,
Fairground, Food outlets, Stalls, Football Competition, Painting Competition – hopefully there
is something for everyone. Please support all the stalls and activities and help us, the committee,
make this a gala to remember while raising enough monies to contribute to the local charities
and organisations.
As Chairman of the 2014 Shelf Gala Committee I would like to thank the sponsors of this Gala:
Coral Windows, Interface, Blackshaw Holdings and Robinsons Farm Shop. A big thank you to
all the advertisers in our programme who support us year after year. Please support these people
and use the services they offer. I would like to thank the gala committee – without these people
the gala would not exist, to all the people who have helped us in any way to set up this gala and
very important, clear it all away for another year and leave Shelf Hall Park as though no one
had been there in the afternoon and finally to all you people who come through the gates and
support us year after year because without you people there would be no use in having a gala.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!
TREVOR PRIESTLEY (Chairman, Shelf Gala Committee 2014)St Michael & All Angels Pre-school – First Prize 2014 Shelf Gala Procession
We are a local Original and Covers band from Bradford called the Void.
As well as performing great and upbeat music from Soul and Rock to Chart music, wegreat friends and always have an amazing time on stage performing to crowds. James
(bass and Vocal) and Joe (Guitar and Vocal) have been in bands from a young ageplaying in Soul and Blues festivals across Europe and getting to the final stages of TheVoice UK. With the introduction of Tom on Drums and Scott on Guitar it was as thoughwe had been a band for ages. The Void, we are now having more fun that ever, afteronly a year we have played numerous weddings, parties and pubs across Yorkshire
and came a very close 2nd in the Bulls Factor getting over 1000 votes.
COME SEE US AND HAVE A GREAT TIME AT THE SHELF GALA ON 5TH OF JULY 2014

Q. I’ve had an offer accepted to buy a
property, what do I do now?
A. Now’s the time to instruct a Property
Lawyer or Solicitor. Call us for a free, no
obligation quote! We will guide you through
the process over the phone and with a
leaflet and we’ll keep you updated.
Q. How long does the process take from
an offer being accepted to moving
house?
A. If you are getting a mortgage, the average
time is 6 to 8 weeks.
Q. What is the advantage of using
a Property Lawyer as a Licensed
Conveyancer instead of a Solicitor?
A. A Solicitor practices in all areas of law.
A Property Lawyer and Conveyancer
specialise in property law.
Q. My neighbour believes my fence
is on his land, can you help?
A. Yes, we can advise on the title and
who owns or is responsible for which
boundaries.
Q. I would like to save money and do
my own conveyancing when I buy
a house, can I do it myself?
A. Yes you can, however, a Conveyancer or
Solicitor would be required to act on
behalf of your mortgage lender. The
Conveyancer’s costs would probably
amount to the same as if you instructed
the Conveyancer to carry out all of the
work though.
