BUILDING ORIENTATION
• The building is oriented along a North South axis.
• This minimizes East and West facing wall surfaces which reduces direct heat gain.
• South, East and West facing windows have exterior sun shades to reduce direct heat gain.
PREVAILING WIND ORIENTATION
• Prevailing winds run from North to South. The primary entries are sheltered by the classroom wings located on the East and West sides of the building.
NATURAL LIGHTING
• All classrooms have natural lighting.
• Interior light shelves bounce additional daylight into classrooms.
• The mall area has clerestory windows to provide natural daylight to the interior of the building.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
• All windows are constructed with dual pane insulated glass to reduce exterior heat gain and reduce internal heat loss.
• Each classroom has its own efficient roof top Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning package unit.
• The roof is designed to be 30% more efficient than a standard roof.
CONSTRUCTION COST REDUCTION
• The two story design reduces material and construction cost of roof by 50%.
• The concrete masonry wall design eliminates the need for interior and exterior wall finishes.
