Program Philosophy: Thurston County Recreation Services provides recreation programs for people of all abilities. Our primary goal is to provide opportunities for learning & growth through the experience of recreation and leisure activities. The programs listed in this brochure are designed for persons with developmental and physical disabilities. All department programs are available to persons of all abilities. Policy of Non-Discrimination on the Basis of Disability: Thurston County Recreation Services does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admission or access to, or treatment in, its programs and activities. Information concerning the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the rights provided there under, are available from the ADA Coordinator. If you need accommodations for any program, please call the Recreation Office at (360) 867-2588. TDD number is (360) 754-2933. Registration Details: Registration is accepted only by mail for the first 2 weeks. Registrations are processed through a randomized computer process. Payment is due upon receipt of your invoice. Your balance must be paid by the date shown on your invoice or you will be withdrawn from the activity. See inside for more details. TCRS is contracted to accept DDD Respite Funds and Family Support Funds.

Refund Policy: Refunds of program fees will be issued only under the following conditions: A request must be received three (3) working days prior to the first day of the class or activity. Refunds will automatically be given for activities that the Department cancels. Sorry, refunds will not be granted for any activity that requires prepaid (P) reserved tickets. If you receive DDA funding: If you have registered for a program and decide that you will not be attending, it is your responsibility to notify the Recreation Office three (3) business days prior to the program. If you do not notify the office you will be responsible for 100% of the program cost even if you do not attend. Participant Care Needs: We strive to provide reasonable accommodations for all of our programs. However, there may be some trips that are not conducive for people who have limited mobility because of location or logistics. Please call in advance to see if the activity will work for you. Attendants: TCRS staff do not provide attendant care for toileting, toilet transfers, feeding and behavior management. If this type of assistance is needed during any program hours you must provide an attendant. Registration fees for attendants may apply and are listed in this brochure. Attendants who accompany participants to programs must register and remain with the participant for the duration of the program. Participant Profile: This form provides emergency information, health conditions, insurance and behavior information. A completed Profile must be on file before participation in any program. A new form must be completed every year or when information changes. Liability Release: An annual liability release must be on file prior to attending any programs. The release must be signed by someone legally authorized to sign documents. Photo Policy: You have the choice if you would like to be photographed and have your pictures published on TCRS documents. An annual form must be on file giving us this permission. Helping Others: Your tax deductible contribution will help to keep program fees low. Your gift of any amount is valuable to all in our community! Space is provided on the registration form for your gift amount. Transportation: Intercity Transit provides free travel training to anyone who is interested in learning to use bus route services. For free training or more information call (360) 705-5879. Medication: TCRS staff will not administer medication nor take possession of medication. Staff are also not able to prompt participants to take medicine. Head Injury and Concussion Acknowledgement: All youth 17 years & younger participating in a Thurston County sports training program must complete a signed Head Injury and Concussion Acknowledgement form to the Recreation Office. A new form must be completed annually.

OUT AND ABOUT TRIPS Ages 16 and over

Prairie Appreciation Day A beautiful day to spend on Thurston County’s Glacial Heritage Preserve in Rochester. This lovely preserve will host a fun day of activities: bee keeping talks, learning about butterflies, birding, and more! There will even be a hayride. This is a walking program on uneven terrain. Please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a lunch.

Saturday, May 13 $35 11:00 - 3:00 Attendant Fee: $0

DeGoede Bulb Farm and Garden A new program for us! We’ll travel down to Mossyrock to this amazing bulb farm and garden. We’ll wander through a spring garden bursting with color, smell delightful blooms, and have lunch while gazing at the vast lands. Our trip will be in the middle of tulip and daffodil season. Please bring a sack lunch.

Saturday, April 8 $37 10:30 - 4:00 Attendant Fee: $0

Dress for the weather! Bring water and money for meals and tips. Recommended $20 - $25.

Tacoma Rainiers (P) Play ball!! Join us a for an afternoon at the ballpark. We’ll see our hometown Rainiers take on the Las Vegas 51’s at the awesome Cheney Stadium. We’ll get lunch too- Hotdog, chips and water included with ticket.

Sunday, June 11 $48 11:30 - 5:30 Attendant Fee: $13

Festival of Sail, Tacoma Tall Ships are coming to the Foss Waterway. Come aboard some unique and historic tall ships. This is a very special event that is only coming to a few ports. Lady Washington will even be there: the original ship from the Pirates of the Caribbe-an series!

Blue Grass from the Forest Festival We’re headed to Shelton to take in this great local festival. Blue grass is a little country, a little jazz with some lively banjo and guitar thrown in. There will be lots to see and do at the festival. We’ll stop for lunch before taking in the festival.

Sunday, May 21 $41 11:00 - 4:00 Attendant Fee: $9

South Sound Speedway Join us for a fun evening at the track! We’re headed to Rochester to see many different models race loud and fast! They’ll have Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, Hobby Stocks, and more! We’ll stop for dinner before the racing begins.

Puyallup Spring Fair A Specialized Rec favorite! The Spring Fair offers all our favorites: baby animals, great food, and thrilling rides. Lots of crafts, demos, and sights, too! Be sure to wear good walking shoes! Bring money for souvenirs, rides, and food.

USS Turner Joy Rescheduled from Winter Quarter. We’ll board a decommissioned 1960’s Navy Destroyer. This ship, located in Bremerton, has may areas for us to explore. Bring a sack lunch to eat on the ship. Please be advised: This is a walking tour. Plan to go up and down ladders and narrow passages.

FITNESS PROGRAMS AND SPECIAL EVENTS

Spring 2017

Bowling Club Join us as we improve our skills and have fun with friends! No instruction provided. Please be sure to check in by 4:00 to bowl. If you aren’t checked in by 4:00, you may not be able to bowl the first game.

Wednesdays, April 12 - June 21 $17 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. $5 lane fee each week Westside Lanes, 2200 Garfield Ave.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION! Thanks to a generous donation from the PARC Foundation and Combined Fund Drive, we are able to offer scholarships. Participation Scholarships: Scholarships are limited to $35 per person, per quarter. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, call the Recreation Office to receive an application. Scholarship applications must be turned in with your registration form. Attendant Fees: Due to the price of admission for some day trips, we will be charging the direct cost of the admission on to the attendant.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Arrrgh! Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack Sparrow in this thrilling movie. In this adventure, Captain Jack is chased by ghost pirates who want to kill every pirate in the sea. We’ll stop for lunch before the movie.

Tolmie State Park Adventure Let’s spend a day at the park with friends. We’ll explore this local hidden gem, just north of Hawks Prairie. We will spend time walking the trails and of course beachcombing. Please dress for the weather, bring sunscreen, and pack a lunch.

REGISTRATION POLICY: * Due to the high demand for our programs, we use a randomized computer process. * Your registration must be received in the Recreation Office by 5:00pm on Monday, March 6. * Please do not fax your registration or include payment. * Registrations may be mailed together if everyone lives at the same address. * We can not take registrations over the phone. * Registrations received after March 6 will be processed after March 9.

PAYMENT POLICY: * An invoice with your registered programs and the amount you owe will be mailed by March 10. * Your full payment must be received by 5:00pm on Thursday, March 30. * If payment is not received by March 30, you will be removed from programs. We will not be making reminder phone calls.
