RI PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI MAHIM MAHIM WAVES
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
The COVID-19 coronavirus is affecting every aspect of our lives in real time, and this puts
Rotarians in an unfamiliar place. As People of Action, we are most comfortable when we are
fully engaged in the world – moving freely, meeting openly, and offering helping hands. These
are very difficult times for people who, like us, are at our best when we are learning, growing,
and serving—together.
We are also leaders in our communities, and these times call for leadership. In many ways, this
also is our time. We have proven abilities to reach out and collaborate to offer immediate help
to people in need at a rapid pace. These are precisely the skills needed all over the world today.
The global effort against COVID-19 depends on actions taken in every country. Rotary has the
unique ability to help improve those efforts in every community and every country.
Using all the technology we have at our disposal, we as Rotarians can continue to reach out
and collaborate on big projects with Rotary clubs, Rotaractors, and Interactors. There are a
number of examples where Rotary clubs are helping health authorities communicate best
practices or provide needed equipment or support that have been shared with our leaders
around the world.
As Rotary’s president and president-elect, we have been thinking of these issues very seriously
in regard to upcoming Rotary events. As you may be aware, we have made the difficult decision
to cancel two Rotary Presidential Conferences honoring our relationship with the United
Nations- one in Paris, another in Rome. In the near term, we recommend that Rotary districts
and clubs cancel or postpone meetings or events following the advice of national and local
health officials.
We meet every Saturday at 5.00 p.m. over Zoom Conference 1st Issue Year 2020-21

RI PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI MAHIM MAHIM WAVES
We know that clubs and districts are seizing the opportunity to become leaders in their
communities and are making better use of technology in this time of need. For example, a
Rotary e-club in Italy held a live online session about COVID-19 awareness, a Taiwan club
worked with companies and a pharmacy association to donate 1,600 bottles of hand sanitizer to
the city of Ji-Long, and Rotary clubs in Sri Lanka helped upgrade software and hardware for the
health promotion bureau to assist its social messaging. We cannot know quite yet what path
this virus will take. We know we can play a role to help ―flatten the curve,‖ reducing the number
of cases in the short term to allow our health systems to address this issue. If the collective
global effort helps bring the situation under control, then we hope to re-embrace our core values
at the 2020 Rotary Convention in Honolulu. Our time together will have greater meaning and
purpose than ever.
Please know that we are taking a close, continuing look at our plans for the convention in June
to make sure all attendees’ safety will be protected. We are following the lead of the world’s
most trusted sources, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, for their guidance. We want you to be able to make decisions
about what is best for you and your families in terms of attending this year’s event.
In the meantime, this is an opportunity for us to demonstrate that Rotary Connects the World in
innovative ways. We should be closely following the advice of the WHO and local health
authorities. Again, this includes canceling Rotary club events and meetings in the short term to
reduce unnecessary interactions that could cause infections. We can put a greater emphasis on
the work we do in our communities by helping our less fortunate neighbors cope with the effects
of isolation and fear, or by supporting our health authorities to address this situation.
We are dealing with this situation in real time. Please visit the rotary.org COVID-19 response
page for ongoing updates.
This is an unprecedented challenge for nearly all of us. But it is also an opportunity for
Rotarians to find new, meaningful ways to lead individuals and communities to connect and do
good in the world.
We have never been prouder to be part of an organization that does so much to protect and
strengthen our communities, at home and across the globe.
We meet every Saturday at 5.00 p.m. over Zoom Conference 1st Issue Year 2020-21

DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE
ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI MAHIM MAHIM WAVES
We did not know it would be such a profound statement, when our team resolved, that Rotary
needs to be more affordable. We went around trying different ways to build bonds and drop
costs. Technology was used from August 2019, for our online meetings and travelling time
saved was time earned. Clubbing of events to drop costs was also implemented. But getting
together the model for online training would never have occurred to us, had the calamity not
come. All events and trainings effectively used the digital platform, seamlessly and without the
―virus‖.
Connecting is at the core of who we are. It is essential for us to stay in touch, because
―connectedly‖ we grow stronger But Covid came, and though physical distancing became the
necessary need of the hour, social distancing was converted to virtual closeness. It is said that
Rotarians feel the itch to be in touch, share lives and serve together. So no ―Karo Na‖ (hindi)
can deter us. We shall stay virtually connected till we can physically connect. As we were in our
homes time was converted into an opportunity, to plan, strategize, and tweak our path to the
altered scenario. But the end objective shall remain the same, to carry on serving communities
and growing our fraternity. And in this time frame have evolved projects and events, in synch
with current times, and manoeuvred to still attain our Objective….. ―Service Above Self‖.
Shilpi and Myself, and the entire core team, shall endeavour to support you in every step you
take, every move you make, as we are truly watching you, guiding you and ensuring your
dreams become realities. Truly speaking, Visionaries shall fly high and shine bright, as they
shape their own Destiny.
I end this message with an appeal, and state, that serving the community shall happen, if you
ensure that you and your families, stay safe and healthy.
God Bless

FROM PRESIDENT’S DESK
ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI MAHIM MAHIM WAVES
I take this opportunity to thank the members of my club to have reposed their faith in me
and selected me as the President for the Vision Year 2020-21.
This journey started almost a year ago, with District trainings and then pre-pets and pets
etc. During all those meetings there was a feeling that we had time to plan and prepare. But
come 2020, and I really don’t know when and where the time flew. By the time I realized it
is already one month into my team and me having taken presidentship for RCMM.
This Rotary year will be a year of innovation and thinking differently. The COVID situation
continues and it is difficult for members to go out and execute the regular projects.
However, RCMM will take this as a year to execute different impactful projects.
The year started with ―Annapoorna‖ and our club contributed our bit to providing meals to
the needy in the streets in and around Mumbai. We also contributed to distribution of
rations and household items to the Adivasis of Jamshete, village.
Continuing on the Integrated development of the village in Jamshete, RC Mumbai Mahim
empowered the Adivasi women folk by vocational training and support, which will enable
them to add to their financial capacity. Through the CSR funding of NR Bearing, RCMM
provided eleven sewing machines, the stitching material and accessories. Currently each
women member makes around 75 bags per day, giving her an income of Rs.300 per day.
RC Mumbai Mahim donated Self Screening Temperature Scanner to Department of
Ophthalmology, KEM Hospital to monitor the temperature of the visitors without making
contact. That would definitely help in this COVID times
RC Mumbai Mahim donated Pulse Oxymeter to Palliative Department at Tata Memorial
Hospital, to monitor Oxygen level and ensuring the persons get help in time in case of low
levels of Oxygen.

FROM PRESIDENT’S DESK
ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI MAHIM MAHIM WAVES
Co-ordinating with other Rotary Clubs, RCMM was able to distribute face shields to the
Traffic Police, to Tata Memorial Hospital and also to the COVID centre in Sawantwadi.
RCMM, with support from RC Deonar provided 400 hand-gloves also at Sawantwadi.
We had a very good Installation ceremony on the social platform with good participation
from the RCMM family and also from the District and co-presidents.
I look forward to the support of all the members in expanding our membership and also
making Rotary stronger and wider.
This year, I have the privilege of getting the Global Grant – Paediatric Heart Surgery
project- on a platter from IPP Rtn Varsha Parulekar, with a huge fund of almost 1.8 crores.
In the coming months starting September, we will have to form multiple teams, and start
executing and monitoring the project progress and completion.
It will be my earnest endeavour to give my best to maintain the trend of continued
performance of RCMM, and the excellent image that the club has at the District. I am sure I
can count on the support of each and every proud Rotarian of RCMM to accomplish our
plans for the Vision Year.
With Rotary meetings from home, we have truly made Rotary a family event this year.
Hopefully this will bring more and more youngsters into the social stream of the country.
Warm Welcome to New Members. Enjoy Rotary, Enrich Life.

CSR PROJECT - WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AT JAMSHETE, DAHANU
ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI MAHIM MAHIM WAVES
Over the years women have suffered a lot through the years at the hands of men. In earlier
centuries, they were treated as almost non-existent. As the times evolved, women realized
their power. There on began the revolution for women empowerment. At RCMM we believe in
equality of gender and our main thrust is to go into the interiors of Maharashtra and help the
women folk to earn their livelihood.
RCMM initiated under the Integrated Village Development Plan in Jamshete, to train Adivasi
women skills of stitching with help of NRB CSR funding and The Aastha Foundation active
locally. To start with 4 sewing machines were set up at Village Community Centre, where
around 30-40 women were trained. They are now making bags, also as an initiative to
removing plastic use. The materials for the bags are purchased in wholesale. Each woman is
able to stich 75 bags with in 8 to 10 hours.
With the time, more and more women have expressed their desire to learn the stitching and
be a part of the group. RCMM has procured 7 more machines to fulfill the need. The Aastha
Foundation expects to produce around 22,500 bags per month. Each women member makes
around 75 bags per day, giving her an income of Rs.300 per day for an 8 to 10 hours a day.
This kind of projects gives immense satisfaction to RCMM members. We are able to make
some one’s life truly better!!

RTN. S VENKATESWARAN ON HOW TO INCREASE HAPPINESS
ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI MAHIM MAHIM WAVES
On 4th July, we had very interesting speaker our own Rtn. S Venkateswaran, and that too, to
speak on topic ―How to increase Happiness‖. It is one of the difficult thing to achieve. In
current situation of Corona Pandemic and scare around, may be it is the most suitable topic!!
Rtn. S Venkateswaran began with stating Rotary Four Way Test. In his own words…………
―We come across several incidences in our life but give different interpretations to those,
more often on the negative side, giving rise to stress. For instance if sharp thorns rub our
body causing pain (an incident), we immediately decide to pluck and throw it out interpreting
that it will cause danger to human lives. We seldom interpret that there is a beautiful rose
garden nearby and Roses will be as thick and beautiful as sharp the thorns are. So it is up to
us how to interpret various incidences in our life and develop a new set of 'The Interpretation
Patterns' (TIPs) to lead a street-free life. This was followed by encouraging participants to
shift their perspectives in 4 different parameters as below to lead a stress free life.
From:
1. Expectations to Acceptance
2. Rights to Duties
3. Push approach to Pull approach and
4. Receiving to Giving‖
He went further on showing how happiness score can be calculated. But happiness isn’t
something that just happens to you. Everyone has the power to make small changes in our
behavior, our surroundings and our relationships that can help set us on course for a happier
life, that is precisely following four points mentioned by Rtn. S Venkateswaran. Happiness
often comes from within. Learn how to tame negative thoughts and approach every day with
optimism.

The Wheel of Rotary is in constant motion signifying change and continuity. Year on year this
idea is reinforced in the Installation Ceremony of the President of a club and his / her Board

This year every thing was unique. Due to lockdown physical meetings were ruled out.

RTN. ARUN BHARGAVA ON "WHAT IS NEW IN ROTARY"
ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI MAHIM MAHIM WAVES
On 25th July, we had Rtn. Arun Bhargava explaining ―What is New in Rotary‖. He had very
unique style of presenting changes. He was asking the question to members on how is it
currently and then stating the change and why change. It became very interesting session.
In his own words……………..
―Running water is always pure but stagnant water is of no use. Like wise to remain with
change in time and to adjust our policy, Rotary keeps changing its rules, regulations and
processes. So as a whole how Rotary functions changes. He explained how Rotary
International makes changes using the process of resolution. The changes are presented
for adoption in council of resolution and in council of legislation.
Current changes are – President can continue for two consecutive years. He or she can
become president again after a break of three years. There is no AGM in Rotary, it is called
Annual Meeting and usually had one agenda item - announcing board of directors. Change
is, annual budget, expense report should be presented in this meeting. Current practice of
mentioning club location in Standard club constitution and by laws is not required,
inclusiveness of locality is removed. Classification list is no more applicable, instead
occupation will be added. Earlier there was cap on the number of members in same
classification, now it only says any one classification should not be predominant.
